Managers

Occasional Pre-Show
I was watching the Macho Man DVD the other day and there was a part in it where he was being recruited by all of the managers in the WWE. There were some legendary names that were in the ring trying to recruit him until he chose Elizabeth. Guys like Mr. Fuji, Jimmy Hart, Bobby Heenan, Freddy Blassie. These are Hall of Fame managers and made me think what happened to the managers in todays wrestling? I think you get a Diva as a manager now and then who does not talk for the wrestler and is just in the background doing nothing. The old managers would get involved and would become part of the match and become even more hated than the wrestlers sometimes.

It seems the actual concepts of managers are dead but they can play such a great role in an entertaining match. Bobby Heenan is for me the best of the managers, he always got involved in the matches and it just worked. I saw that Booker T had a manager in TNA the other day and I actually turned to my friend (we both havent watched wrestling in years) and asked what he thinks about managers cause it seemed like there was hardly any and he said he thinks managers were phased out during the DX/Stone Cold era and although I know there were still a few around I think thats when managers were starting to phase out. I think they should bring old school managers back. It can also be used to have a stable of wrestlers like Bobby Heenan had a few under his tutelage at one time and they'd often get involved in each others matches and/or team up with them.
