M.I.A following South Park

Nitafrong

Póg mo thóin! :)
Have any of you guys seen the video for M.I.A's new single Born Free? If not you should really give it a view- its garnering a lot of contraversy for its overt violence- the video depicts an armed army unit capturing males with ginger hair before taking them to the desert to kill them.

I would post it here- but it has been removed from youtube and I don't know what other sites I can post here. That and the content is a bit graphic for our younger viewers here too.

Aside from all the fuss about the video- the song is pretty good:)

The ugly, fat people having sex was more disturbing to me. The last death was just funny.

I have to say- I enjoyed the video and the deaths were more stylsed than realistic. All those good people who review music seem mostly up in arms about it though. I did think South Park immediatly though as soon as I heard it was about ginger haired people :p

I made a non-spam thread about it, Nita.

That being said, there really isn't anything to it. They say it is about persecution but it's not. It is just trying to be edgy for the sake of being edgy and it reeks of that. The song is frankly terrible and the video accomplishes nothing.

Ah hhhunder Dave- I am sorry about that, I didn't notice your thread. I was going to post this there but I thought there would be a lot more spammy responces.

Well there is a lot being said about the video- one of the sites I visited said its actually going to be made into a full film. Must just be me but on first listen to the song I liked it. Its like a polar opposite to the light and floaty Paper Planes but its still good though I think the video probably extends it longer than it normally should be.

I liked the video too- I didn't really look for any particular meaning or message- its all very well shot and leaves some lasting imagry in your head.

Woah... I obviously need more sleep- that one completely escaped me :) I wish it had been deliberate though- I love non obvious humour.
