Luther presents: Hardcore Hull

Like match of the week, except this is hardcore. I'm more of an impact kind of guy rather than a blood and guts guy but I'll try and choose a mix of both. Any suggestions just PM me.

With that being said, let's kick off Hardcore Hull. I'm starting with a match some people see as a modern hardcore classic and others just see as 'not the old ECW': Mick Foley and Edge vs. Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk from ECW One Night Stand 2006.

For me this was a decent, entertaining match that I'll remember as one of my favourites and was definately the match of the night at ONS. It didn't have any bumps or spots that stand out in the memory it was just a good consistent hardcore match. If I was the booker I'd have probably booked Sandman instead of Funk, but I guess that's just me. This was a match that from what I've seen was every bit as good as the original ECW, it managed to have a bit of nostalgia for the ECW fans whilst putting over Edge as a main-eventer. The fact he was applauded after the match shows how well he performed.

I give this match **** One Hull of a match.

It was a good match. But I dont think it was in the spirit of ECW. It felt totally forced in my opinion. Not to take away from the match. Entertaining as hell. But at an ECW show it didn't fit. Then again that card featured Angle vs. Orton and Big Show killing Tajiri, 911 style. I also didn't like them adding Buelah and Lita. Couldn't they just have Funk do the job. He wasn't staying for the new ECW anyway. I felt it tainted the victory. Pinning Buelah doesn't make you the best now does it. But if Edge had pinned the Hardcore Legend Terry Funk, well that would have elevated him more.

It was a decent match for that card. But i'm with Jake it wasn't in the spirit of ECW. It was a match that was put on the card so ECW fans could get what they wanted and that was a hardcore match. It seemed to that they tried so hard to get over in the match. That adding Buelah was for the fans and her and Lita did hardly anything until the end so that was kind of pointless. But Vince dont care about Funk and I think he wanted to be the rated r jackass he was and pin buelah the way he did. Decent match but over done to please the ECW fans.

I'm shocked that Terry Funk actually worked the match for Vince. I would have been shocked to all hell if he laid down to put over one of Vince's guys in an ECW ring. The beaulah stuff was added just to please the ECW original fans. I didn't mind it myself. I thought the match was very good, especially on the lackluster card that came out that night. One Night Stand one was just something special, and the WWE of course had to "fix" it with their guys scattered all in the show, yawn.

I remember watching this ppv that night and thinking this is a damn good match this is what I hope ECW is going to be like when it comes back on tv! Now that I watch this match again and reading what Jake said I feel this match was forced also.. The combined everything into this match that made ECW ground breaking... Barbwire, catfights, and people getting abused with fire. But this is still a good match not a hardcore classic... Also I'm glad Luther has started this, I'm a big mark for hardcore wrestling so Luther be prepared for me to send you some suggestions!

Same here, i watched n thought, ok maybe this isnt quite as off the wall and as good as the original E C Dub matches or style, but it is the WWE version of what ECW should be...a little safer and kind of Hardcore by numbers type match....and i though yep i can live with that....then the ball was dropped...but thats a different story....

I love hardcore stuff and like luth does i prefer impact to how much can i bleed etc...so yea damm good match.....look forward to the next one....dig up some of the older CZW stuff...that is hardcore.

Haven't been around for a while, but here we go again.

Again, a WWE match, well, WWF actually. But this was probably one of the best matches ever. It involved a man who later became one of the main stars in the WWE, a man who became one of the main stars of TNA (if that counts for anything), two guys who are damn close to become stars and the Dudleys.

Yep, it's TLC 2 from WrestleMania X-Seven.

This match took place at one of the best Mania's, and in my opinon stole the show. Sure, it was a car wreck match, but it was damn amazing to watch, especially as a little 10 year old which was how old I was when I first saw this match, it was like the coolest thing I'd ever seen. It still is now I'm older, it's a fun match to watch with one of the most memorable moments in WWE history.

I'm still on the look out for the more violent indie stuff, if you have any PM it to me. I don't usually watch that sort of stuff, so tell me about it! Anyways, enjoy the match...
