LostProphets- Reinventing or Selling out?

Ok, so for those of you who don't know these guys that well- light background info:

Thefakesoundofprogress
Their light metal/emo attempt. They recieved mixed reviews and, personally, I only liked some of the album

Start Something
They softened up here but still kept that grunge feel to it. Seemed to resemble Faith No More but kept it their own.

Liberation Transmission
Transitioned fully into pop rock (Sorry about the constant categorisation but wikipedia is my closest source). Rooftops was included in this, which most of you should recognise from Jeff Hardy's promo video from Royal Rumble 2008.

The Betrayed
I've only heard their one single but by the sound of it, they've changed again. This time they've turned to Punk Rock. I know by personal experience that this is becoming an ever more popular music genre.

So, based on what you know, do you think that the LostProphets are constantly jumping on the bandwagon that will sell the most CDs (Selling out) or are sticking to their basic style but changing slightly to fit the time (Reinventing).

PS, I don't care what they're doing but I like it.

I was a big fan of Thefakesoundofprogress and mostly enjoyed Start Something. Liberation Transmission was absolute garbage compared to their other work. With the release of their third album, their look changed and their music style had completely shifted to fit right in line with all the other emo trash on the radio. I thought Rooftops was a whiny emo song when it came out on the radio, but I bought the album anyway because of my LOVE LOVE LOVE for the Lostprophets. I listened through it five times before selling it back. It just didn't do it for me. A lot of the things I enjoyed about TFSOP and SS were the DJ mixes and the grunge sound they had about them. All that was stripped away in LT. I will not be purchasing the new album, but I will check out the new single.

I know that artists grow and their music changes as they do so, but the transition from Start Something to Liberation Transmission was like night and day for me.

I've never come across anyone who knew the Lostprophets, or more importantly Thefakesoundofprogress. What are your favorite Lostprophets songs? Mine are We Are Godzilla You Are Japan, I Don't Know (my all-time favorite), Shinobi vs. Hidden Dragon, Thefakesoundofprogress, and Ode to Summer. If you haven't heard We Are Godzilla You Are Japan, you need to hear it. I will send it to you so you can encounter their awesome. It was on the Japanese release of Start Something and it proved to me that even though the Lostprophets were getting softer, they still had the ability to crank out headbanging music.

Ha. I just realized I never really answered your question. They sold out, I think. The change was just too crazy for it to be them evolving as musicians.

Niether have I. I don't know many people who like them. Glad to find someone who does.

Lemme look through.

Can't catch Tomorrow
Shinobi vs. Hidden Dragon
It's not the end of the world but I can see it from here (New one)
Last train Home
Last Summer
Burn Burn (Favourite)

Haven't heard 'I don't know'.

I haven't heard it, would appreciate a link for it.

I'm not too bothered about the answer. It was gonna do a general LostProphets thread but figured more people would answer this. It can double as a LostProphets discussion thread.

Alright, here's We Are Godzilla, You Are Japan and here's I Don't Know.

I was going to put Burn, Burn on the list of my favs also, but I was afraid of throwing out too many SS songs. The bass line in that song is sick. I have the complete first two albums as well as Lucky You and Miles Away From Nowhere. If there's anything you want, I can also send it.

Listened to both, both were great. If you have any more like that I'd really appreciate them. I don't think I've heard them heavier than We are godzilla, you are japan.

Punk Rock's popular now? Since when? Oh and Green Day hasn't been punk rock since dookie, so they don't count. Anyways I've never subscribed to the whole selling out notion. If a band makes good music it shouldn't matter if they aim is for mainstreem acceptance just as long as they're making good music.

Mainly within the last two years. Being in a school full of music obsessed kids kinda helps keep up.

What do you class Greenday as? How is American Idiot not Punk Rock?

I did try to say that but failed. I'm getting kinda pissed of with this classification stuff anyway. It's all music!

I'm pretty sure your school doesn't properly represent the majority of culture.

Do you even know what punk is? This is punk:

Green Day is about as punk rock as Mr. Rogers. When you sing songs like "American Idiot" while being on The Simpsons and having shows at stadiums, you've ceased to be a punk band. Green Day has become a prototypical case of everything that isn't punk. They embarrass themselves with their skinny ties and eyeliner.

Lostprophets are pretty shit by the way.
