Lost

First Immortality..Then the Bitches
Now before I actually get into the thread let my just make perfectly clear that this thread is not about the television show under the same name. There is no correlation between the show and this thread, expect basic concept.

Have you ever been lost? What I mean by that is not lost in a city trying to find directions or flipping out on the highway because your GPS sucks. No I mean actually lost deep within the wilderness, stranded with no indication of civilization to be found anywhere? Trapped in the wilderness without the slightest know how to survive..or without a cell phone signal(OMG no Facebook!)? Would you have what it takes to survive? Do what is necessary to secure that you have a future?

Most people, myself included would have no idea what to do in a situation like that. I mean I barely know how to tell west from east, north and south, up and down...So you figured out where you are, okay but which direction do you take? How about food? Say you are stranded in the desert, where food and water is scarce. Would you eat a bug or two? Would you drink your own urine to rehydrate yourself. Hey, this is no time to be squeamish, your life is at stake! If you don't, the heat could really put you down for the count without any sort of hydrating liquid in your system.

Perhaps you are lost in the jungle. You might not think about it at first but the jungle is a very dangerous place. Food may look good but it could cost you your life if you don't know whats actually edible and what's best to avoid. Venomous snakes and insects swarm the vast jungle which would also be lethal if you aren't wary on where you place your limbs. The rain forests are home to even larger animals,of the man eating type that mat be hazardous to your life. Big cats such as jaguar's, pumas and tigers roam these jungles, would you be able to defend yourself from an attack? All sorts of troubles await you if you don't know what to do under these types of circumstances.

Maybe you prefer the frozen wastelands of the Arctics. A valley of snow and ice with freezing temperatures that could kill. Come ill prepared and you could be dead in a matter of days,if not hours. Would you panic? Would you lose your sanity? Maybe you are a bit more calm and placid about the whole situation enough for you to rationally assess your predicament. Allowing you pace out your survival and keep your wits straight enough to get out alive. Maybe you were doomed from the start, who's to really say?

We rely to much on society and technology for our daily bidding. Most of us have lost touch with our survival sense because in this modern day, they are not required. People take everyday life for granted. We are so tethered to our every day needs, our phones, vehicles, computers, television all of it that when you take it all away, most people wouldn't know what to do. Its not as if they teach this in school, in an everyday situation, who needs it? This is why we have shows like Man Vs Wild!:p. In any case, these things happen, more often than none. So if it happened to you, would you know what to do in order to stay alive?

Would you have what it takes to survive in a situation like one of these? For days in not weeks on end.

What would be the best way to approach a situation like this, what would you do?

Not saying you have an option but if you did,out of the 3 locations I named(Rain forests/Jungle,Desert,Arctic. Which would be more ideal for you and be your best bet for survival? Which is more equipped for survival?

I present your topic, so sound off below.

I doubt I would be able to survive for too long if I was lost, mainly because I am far too dependent on my phone and other electronic gadgets, most of which would be able to get my assistance so in this scenario I'll pretend I don't have access to any of them. Not beingable to check facebook or look up wrestling rumors on sites like Wrestlezone would drive me insane. Finding food and shelter would be pretty tough.

The best way to approach the issue for me would be to stay in constant prayer and seeking spiritual guidance. No matter how difficult our current situation is, I always believe that everything that happens is all part of a larger plan which none of us could comprehend, all we have to do is believe. There could be a reason for why I got lost, something that needs to happen which could only happen if I did indeed get lost. Thinking about things in that way while praying often gets me out of situations like that with a minimal amount of stress or freaking out.

Out of the three options of desert, arctic, or jungle, I would choose the jungle. I have a tough time dealing with extreme temperatures in either direction. I'd struggle in the desert unless I found a large amount of cacti to be my source of drink. I wouldn't even survive 5 minutes in an arctic setting. I don't do well with snow or icy days here in TX, let alone being lost in the arctic circle. As for the jungle.... I am fascinated by plants and animals. Building a shelter surrounded by trees and plenty of animals around if I needed to hunt for food sounds far easier for me to survive in than the desert or the arctic.

I'm not seeing a big ass snake crawling around my leg and choking me to death while its mouth is wrapped around my head; so the Jungle is out. Left with the desert or the arctic is a pretty hard choice for me. Cha-cha says it can take 15-45 minutes to freeze to death in the arctic. In the desert, you could die of heat stroke n 10-15 minutes. While these statistics may be at the most extreme of temperatures, I'd rather freeze than burn. While Kentucky's winters are not that extreme in comparison to the rest of the Continental United States, I believe I could very well handle freezing my ass of at temperatures well below 0 degrees.

I cannot handle hot weather. In the summers, it can get to be around 100 degrees here. I can't even handle that; how am I supposed to handle being stuck in some hot sand in 130 degree heat? I do whatever I can to stay cool in the summer. While it's cool outside now, I can be spotted wearing athletic shorts, a t-shirt and a light jacket. I love cool weather. Would I be able to survive 200 mph winds in temperatures well below 0 degrees; maybe - it's highly doubtful though.

Hypothermia, snow blindness and frostbite are hard to overcome. I've had troubles waking up in the past to my front yard covered in snow causing my corneas to explode from the bright sunlight reflecting off the snow. I could only imagine how bad that would be in the arctic. Fighting frostbite is something that might be impossible to avoid. Walking in snow, walking through snow in the air - snow is obviously going to get to your skin somehow.

It’s cold. Damn cold. I don’t think anyone can actually comprehend how cold it is there. Even when a person feels comfortably warm, they are using over half their total caloric intake just to maintain their body temperature. The colder it gets outside the body, the more food people need. Could you imagine? Seems like hell if it were cold. I know I probably couldn’t survive this.

After reading through this shit, and looking up all the facts, I know it's impossible for me to survive anything extreme. While I've basically grown up in the Kentucky woods behind my house, I can't say I'm ready for any kind of extreme weather whether it'd be the arctic, desert or the Jungle. On paper, the Jungle looks best but I'm terrified of snakes and just about anything that crawls. I hate hot weather. Hell, if I was going down in one of these places, I'd obviously pick the Arctic.

As long as I have a bullet, a gun, or quick way out if things get bad, I'll be fine.

Welcome to the Susua Forest. About 5 minutes from my house at the other side of town, this beauty is a nice little natural forest with a good few miles of territory. It's not as big as the more well known "Yunque" Rain Forest, but it's a nice camping site if you stay close. But go off into the mountains and it's a bitch to find your way back. Especially if you're a bunch of 8 year olds. As a kid we went there a lot for birthday parties and such. And exploring it to see what we could find was always part of the fun. That was until we get so far deep that when we tried turning around, everything looked different.

There was no one around but us. And we left while the food was being cooked so we were hungry. What did we do? We marched ahead. A little river was the only indication we had of where we were. So we kept going, hoping we'd run into... Well anything, eventually. After a good 5 hours, we spotted a familiar path and eventually got home.

I learned staying still won't get you anywhere. Rain forest, desert or jungle. They don't stretch forever and getting out these places is the best bet to eliminating the threats it provides. I'd rather be lost in a highway close to the forest than in it with all the animals that can kill you.

I guess deserts can be the real dicks to get by. Burning hot at day and freezing cold at night. Not a good combo. It's even worse given the terrain, because there's no cover except for maybe foxholes. No tips here. Run or die basically.

A jungle can also be nasty depending on the region. Animals are always dangerous in there. So the best bet is to stay alert and never sleep on the ground.
