Location of Wrestlemanias in comparison to the Olympics

Mr. TM

Throwing a tantrum
Should the WWE decide to hold Wrestlemania in ways that are similar to the way the IOC determines where to hold the Olympics? The International Olympic Committee usually has a final list of four cities, and each of these cities try to cater to the IOC in bringing the event to their city.

From here, the list is voted on, and the final city is determined. Now should the WWE use a similar tactic. They could determine key locations, and have them offer their services to the WWE. The WWE could offer a press conference during Wrestlemania weekend in picking the newest city.

The cities themselves will typically be American cities, but every year, they could include at least one non American city in the list. London, UK; Toronto, CAN; Mexico City, Mexico; and others could all make the list. Then the WWE fans will get to see how each city is determined. It would also help the WWE by seeing which of the four cities will offer the best deal for the WWE, for the honour of hosting one of the biggest yearly events. If anything, it could offer the fans to show their patriotism or nationalism towards the WWE.

An Example would be the WWE limiting the list to four.

Rogers Center, Toronto, Canada
Madison Square Garden, New York, United States
Georgia Bowl, Atlanta, United States
Pepsi Center, Denver, United States.

Then you could get representatives from each city trying to bring the event to the city. Then for a Wrestlemania weekend, get fans on camera from all the four cities showing their enthusiasm as the city is picked.

What do you think? Would the WWE do well to do this?

While WWE might like this to be something they do...I don't think the general public would allow this to occur. Wrestling still is seen mostly as some kind of illegitimate sideshow, particularly by the elite business-persons of America. It's a big deal, but not THAT big of a deal. I think cities would be more keen to launching promotions for things like the Super Bowl than investing time and money into trying to land Wrestlemania.

I think it would be a great idea. There are plenty cities that haven't hosted a Wrestlemania like St. Louis, Dallas, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh. I also like the idea of having one international city being included also. Wembley Stadium would be a great place to host a Wrestlemania but I don't know if Vince will be up to the idea. It's definitely something that deserves consideration.

i think it would be fabulous and the WWE brought over 30 million dollars of revenue to detroit during wrestlemania weekend thats on par with the super bowl so people would compete for it just as much as the Superbowl buddy . and that would be a great idea. i mean imagine mania being in the roman collisueme that would be rpic

Considering this is what the Roman Colosseum currently looks like...and that it is a historical museum...the chances of having Wrestlemania at the Colosseum are 0.01%.

I don't see what the point would be. Vince can see what stadiums will be able to house what he envisions, and he can see what kind of facilities are available to attract fans. I personally think that it is complete overkill to have this decided Olympic style.

Furthermore, does anyone really know how the site is officially decided upon? It seems that something like this is probably already taking place...where cities are determined and then narrowed down to one. That would be common sense.

On my list of things to do before I die is to go to a Wrestlemania, which is tough living in England.
Anything that could make a Wrestlemania at Wembley more likely is fantastic in my books. Its an amazing venue, Iv been there for the 2007 FA Cup Final and it was absolutely amazing. London as a city, one of the best in the world. 80,000 can easily be packed into the venue, I imagine more with floor seats ..
Hope it happens someday.

I think it would work.Everyone knows that Wrestlemania Generates alot of money into the local economy, therefore they mayors would be wanting wrestlemania to be hosted in their cities. Also it not only generates alot of money from the event itself, but it makes more money from the tourist that visit the city, and it can actually help it longterm if the tourist like the city, they can return in future times.

So yes it would work.

man i had no idea the roman collisem was in such bad shape, but i definitely think that doing it olypic stlye would be awesome. i man that could open up loads of possibilities. and they definitely make enough money for the city that they are in to do it that way. i mean just watch how much money Houston is going to makr this year and how mush glendale will make next year during the weekend of mania, and die hard fans like my self will be there for a week

I doubt Dallas will host a WrestleMania. Arlington will now be Vince's target. But as far as cities campaigning for this, Im pretty sure there is to a degree some of this going on. Vince has to ask, what stadium makes this look "Big-Time," where can I sell-out, what city can handle tourism really well? Plus, Vince is not bound like the Super Bowl to keep it in the south just to try to avoid weather issues.

I think that's a good question and using that olympic format to hold a press conference to name your next city could draw great revenue and excitement. Those cities won't spend the money to build new stadiums or anything like that but it's great publicity. Good question

One of the things that was on my list to do before I die is attend a wrestlemania, and I get to fulfill that in 2 weeks. I think wembley stadium would be a great choice for a future wrestlemania, and i hope that you can go and have blast as I'm sure ill have at WM25. i lke the idea of choosing WM locations olympic style, gves the wwe a lil publicity and itll generate more interest n the product.

Life after wrestlemania? hmmm...?? yo bring up a good point, i have no idea what Imma do with myself after wrestlemania, i guess just get on a plane and fly back to san jose,. damn that kinda sucks.. oh well, wooohooo!!! wreslemania is almot here

I think its a great idea but if this happens I could see alot of wrestlemania's in europe with all the stadia we have.
In the UK alone we have Wembley, Millenium Stadium, Twickenham, Old Trafford and the Emirates stadium....All can hold over 70,000. Spain has the Nou Camp which can hold over 100,000 and that would be awesome.
But thats just in europe. I would feel bad for the american fans who would have to travel abroad every other year to watch they favourite wrestling event when normally it would be a short flight or a long car ride.
