Lance Cade...wtf

Occasional Pre-Show
So not too long ago, Lance Cade seemed like he had the company behind him. He was being groomed for a break out, and was part (albeit a very small one) of the arguably the best feud of the year. He held wins over HBK, had main evented RAWs with Murdoch against DX, and had in my opinion put on some very solid matches against Londrick. Then, a stones throw away from the biggest victory of his career he gets canned for what we can assume was a drug related incident.

Now what? The guy was an alright talent IMO, and could have done decent things in the upper mid card on Smackdown - who knows maybe even moved in to the kinda-main-event that guys like CM Punk, Jeff Hardy and Jericho inhabit. Where is he, why haven't we heard anything about him since his release, and do you think he could have gone anywhere or will go anywhere?

FROM WIKIPEDIA:

On October 14, 2008, Cade was released from his WWE contract.[48] Jim Ross later stated that this was due to Cade because "he made a major league mistake while utilizing bad judgment".[49] Ross also made reference to Cade having a seizure on a plane and needing emergency medical care.[49]

[edit] Independent circuit and Japan (2008-present)

Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch at NWA Showcase.Less than a week after Cade's release, he began accepting bookings with Trevor Murdoch as a team on the independent circuit, including Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South as well as NWA Showcase.

Cade returned to Japan in December 2008 teaming with his former tag team partner René Duprée for HUSTLE on December 24 and 25. They appeared as masked wrestlers, Dyna and Might Sharpe, a parody of the Sharpe Brothers. The team defeated Tenyru and Koshinaka both nights. Five nights later they had their third and final match with Tenyru and Koshinaka and HUSTLEMANIA in a losing effort. Cade returned as "Cowboy" Cade, his former WWE character, on February 19 at Korukuen Hall to defeat the tag team of Tajiri and Akebono when Cade pinned Tajiri following his sitout powerbomb and his signature elbow off the top rope. On February 22, Cade defeated Akebono in a singles match in the main event of HUSTLE's debut show in Chiba, Japan.

You are most likely right on the drugs thing....
Which like you said is dissapointing because he cleary has/had potential to be a very good wrestler and who knows how far they would/could have pushed him.

I kind of liken him to Jeff hardy some, Hardy had some problems in his days and was released a few times but eventually came back and look at him now.
Hopefully Cade can continue to improve maybe land in TNA and make an even bigger name for himself again to overcome the adversity.

There's a lot of guys from recent memory that fall into the Lance Cade obscurity category.

Chris Masters, Muhammad Hassan, Tyson Tomko, Paul London, Nick Dinsmore (Eugene), Petey Williams, etc...

Some were released for personal issues, others simply because there was nothing for them creatively.

I'va always thought that a competitive wrestling organization could be started in the states with good talent that had been released by both WWE and TNA. Obviously, a huge amount of financial backing would need to be in place and the head of creative would have to be someone with a brilliant mind (Heyman or Bischoff).

But like powerade said in his post, Cade could be back at some point. I would imagine we may see quite a few of these guys in the next five years after some of the "older" talent decide their times have passed.
