Lack of Cena Promo's

Constipated Badger Bottom

Pre-Show Stalwart
I don't know if anybody has noticed this but in the last three shows that Cena has appeared on (13/6 Raw, Capitol Punishment, 20/6 Raw) which equates to 9 Hours of WWE programming and all Cena has done is matches he has done no promo's what so ever and if you consider that he has the face of the company that is very bizarre, Last week there was no sight of him till the main event despite being in a match at CP so only R-Truth was the one to hype up the CP match in which he lost without mounting much offense against CM Punk, then at Capitol Punishment it was the same with R-Truth hyping the main event and then at the last 30 minutes he appared for much and again didn't make much offense but still won the match and that was that, and again last night at Raw for 2 hours and 30 minutes the only mention of Cena was by Teddy Long to book him into the main event and then in the last 30 minutes we see him and he's more involved offensivley in that match then in previous weeks but we didn't hear a word from him for the 3'rd show running

Now i'm not going to read to much into this and say "this could be the start of a heel turn" because i'm 99% sure that it's not because let's face it the 2'nd biggest face on Raw is Rey Mysterio and he doesn't even come close to being at Cena's level, but I do find it a little strange that we haven't heard him speak for nearly 3 weeks now.

So what do you think is behind this?
Is it wise for the WWE to not have him speak despite him Main Eventing an upcoming PPV?
Is the show better or worse because of it?

This is good because maybe the wwe doesn't want to force him down our throats and its a win for his fans that he's still champ and win for us who do want to see him every minute. I also kinda think john cena doesn't even really like the role of being a super hero that win alot but just doing what he's told. Maybe john himself wanted to step aside for a bit so other talent could get over and as a cena hater I say amen to that.

Maybe they're giving us a break from Cena, trying to freshen him up a bit and actually <gasp> give time to the other superstars they have so they can get over a bit more. Either way, I haven't missed him on the mic, to be honest. I don't hate the guy, just wish they'd give that title to someone, ANYONE, else. I hate when he has that title. He doesn't need it.

So what do you think is behind this?
R-Truth. Cena is the unrivalled face of the WWE and the current champion. R-Truth has had a heel turn and as a consequence to be successful, it's imperative that he keep his momentum going by being on the mic attacking the face of the company, the man who holds the title he's after, the man causing Truth to be held back, the man... well, you get the idea.

Is it wise for the WWE to not have him speak despite him Main Eventing an upcoming PPV?

Not saying this to bash the guy, but isn't Cena just about ALWAYS Main Eventing a PPV? I can't see him not speaking as much in the build up to the PPV as a huge factor when people know he's going to be there. He's not a stand-up comedian who solely relies on talking on the mic, he's a sports entertainer/wrestler where speaking is part of the overall equation.

Is the show better or worse because of it?
Meh, subjective really. Cena haters will say it's better, supporters may say it's worse. I was lapping up Punk's promo at the start though, so dam good.

Yeah, I've noticed that Cena has said very much, sometimes nothing at all, over the course of the last while. However, generally speaking, that hasn't been a bad thing in my opinion as it's given others an opportunity to shine. The match between Cena & R-Truth was built up almost entirely by Truth on the mic with Cena interacting with him in some other manner. For instance, Truth throws a drink into a fan's face and John Cena comes out to confront Truth while comforting the fan. Makes Truth look like a heel and Cena look like a good guy. Simple and effective. Last week, Truth causes Cena to get distracted and he loses a match to CM Punk.

Given what Punk said last night, whether or not it's all part of an angle, I think we'll be hearing Cena more on the mic to help build up the match.

Something also worth noting is that before his match up with CM Punk last week, Cena talked up the camera in his entrance as always. This time, however, it wasn't the usual high energy style, Cena said something along the lines of "Uncle Jack, I love you, you're my hero. Save a cold one for me upstairs."

I suppose John Cena is going through some grief, and I wouldn't be surprised if this has lead to him needing some time to regroup, save for in ring matches.

I understand what your all saying about givng the others the chance to shine and I agree but at CP we had the embarssing segment with the "President" and Booker T and just last night we had a Dance-Off between Michael Cole and Vickie Guerrero and i'm sure most of us here would much prefer an interveiw segment which doesn't have to be Cena if the WWE is so insistant on having a comic relief gap then surely it would do harm to have a comedic-face/heel who is still an active wrestler like your Kozlov's or your Marella's or that guy that does those YouTube videos rather than a dance-off and some guy pretending to be president

and I remember the odd RAW were Cena doesn't make an appearance till the Main Event but I carn't honestly remember the last time he went 9 hours of television without a single promo except when he was injured or still considered an up and comer

Edit:

I think that might explain it then, I only heard "Save me a cold one" from Cena last night on his entrance so didn't think much to it, but yeah it makes alot more sense

I think there is a more simple reason, atleast for one week. When Cena comes out, he usually turns to the camera prior to saluting and running down into ring.

Two weeks ago on RAW, Cena came out and said something like "It's go time" but it was very clear he had lost his voice - it sounded extremely scratchy and weak. I don't think laryngitis lasts this long but I can say it absolutely contributed to one of those promo-less bouts.
