Kurt Angle's Weight Loss

Fidgets over vanilla midgets
Is it just me, or is Angle looking really skinny nowadays? I've noticed it off and on over the past year or so, but on Impact this week, he just seemed... tiny. I'm finding it hard to buy him suplexing big guys like Bully Ray.

I'm a huge Angle fan. His match against Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 21 is my all-time favorite Wrestlemania contest. But at this point, I think his look is hurting his credibility. There are, of course, lots of credible small guys, but they tend to have an in-ring style that makes the most of their size (or, in Mysterio's case, adopt an offense that consists of only three moves, two of which are the flying crotch). Kurt's look doesn't really match his style anymore, in my mind. He still delivers in the ring and I've heard he's felt great since the weight loss, but if he needs to be down to that weight to feel healthy, maybe... I hate to commit heresy here, but maybe wrestling isn't where he should be right now.

Thoughts?

isn't he training for the olympics? haven't paid much attention to TNA lately so i don't know but i think he's training and surely part of that is sticking to a weight limit.

He is training for the Olympics man. He is more than likely getting to a weight where he knows and feels comfortable competing at. How would you find it hard to believe that a slimmed down Kurt suplexes the likes of Bully? Angle is a master ring general and can use any form of leverage to pull off surprising suplexes. It's the same as Kurt suplexing Big Show. Actually Kurt suplexing Bully even at his slimmed down size is more believable than Kurt suplexing Big Show. It has nothing to do with him FEELING healthy it has everything to do with him being at a comfortable weight to compete at.

Personally I'd be more worried about Sting throwing down those ridiculous promos. I'm sorry but wtf is TNA doing to Sting!?

Training for the Olympics + lots of cardio, less muscle building excercises + different diet = muscle loss/weight loss.

Kurt's been smaller for a couple of years now, and that's good for him. He's faster, healthier. Nothing wrong with that.

I think Kurt looks weird now he is skinnier. I understand why he is like that, with the training for the Olympics etc, but having been used to a much bigger Kurt Angle it still looks odd to me.

I am glad that his weight loss has not affected his in-ring work, Kurt is still as good as ever and is still the best in the world in my eyes. He still has the explosive speed that he always had, and will hopefully become the TNA Champion very soon. The company needs a champion who will put on consistently good matches. Hardy couldnt, Anderson couldnt, Sting can't....Kurt is the man they should turn to

Angle's been dropping weight for a while now. As you get older you're going to lose muscle mass, the fact that he's still fit shows that he's still busting his ass in the Gym. That and he isn't pumping himself with steroids which is another good thing. It's nice to know that after all of the stupid things Angle has done he actually seems to have learned from it.

I don't get why you can't buy him suplexing Bully Ray. This isn't CGI and shit, he's still doing the moves. Bigger muscles doesn't mean you're stronger, it just means you're bigger. I'd be willing to be that Angle probably has some of the best cardio and strength on the entire TNA roster and muscle mass has nothing to do with it.

Funny you brought this up because I thought the same thing when he took the clown costume off.

It shouldn't matter much though, like others here have said. If anything, the lack of bulk will allow him to be much more flexible in the ring and be a bit quicker.

I agree, a while ago after the Main Event Mafia I started to watch more and Kurt was scary skinny for me, that's the impression I have when I look at him. Then he put some weight back during his Jarrett feud and was okay, but now he is back to scary tiny.

I know that the guy is probably healtier that way but I can't help but think something is weird when I look at him.

Yes He is looking Crazy Skinny and he doesn't even sound the same either . He's got this Randy Cotour Look thing going .

He looks really creepy now that he lost some weight. I thought he was taking hardcore drugs and he looks like he hasn't slept in a week. Whatever the case is I hope he stays healthy.

Kurt Angle is still a big man. He may not be the 230 he was when he was juiced out in WWE, but he's a solid 200 anyway, and at 5'10 that is a lot of mass, especially with as low a body fat percentage as he has. Angle looks like what he is- a legitimate athlete in amazing shape. It is absolutely believable to see Angle suplex men like Bully Ray, because, news flash: He CAN suplex men like Bully Ray. He is a strong man and has perfect technique, he made his career in amateur wrestling through around men who outweighed him by 100 pounds. He is a beast, and not trying to stay artificially big is nothing but a good thing.

Oh for Satan's sake, of course Angle is slimming down. 1 he is training for the Olympics, wich means doing cardio and stuff. 2. He is getting old and as you grow old, you loose muscle mass. As for Angle being able to do a suplex on Bully Ray, well if Scott Steiner can do it with his supposed shot back and at the age he is you can bet that Angle can do it.

Angle looks to be in great shape, just because he is not stacked with muscels doesn't mean he's not in shape or strong. Strenght is not relative to muscel size, it's called being toned. As for being able to suplex Bully Ray that has not as much to do with strenght as it does leverage.

It's the same thing wih football, you might have a guy on the offencive line that might not be as strong as the defender that is rushing him, but if he gets under the defenders shoulder pads and get leverage he can block him all day.

Angle's been losing weight since 2009. Gotta remember, he's laid off a bunch of stuff since his divorce not to mention all the training and now the Olympics. Kurt's tough as nails, so I wouldn't worry about any health issues.

Its funny cause when he came out for the main event I thought the same exact thing "Man, Kurt Angle got small." But to me, aside from his initial run with Samoa Joe when he first debuted, he's always been smaller in TNA. Just look at his old videos from the WWF days, you can definitely see the difference.

So a fat, double chinned, drug addicted , slurred speech kurt angle is more believable than a physically fit, toned athlete who is training for the olympics? You have to be kidding me about this right? Kurt angle right now is the same size he was when he debuted in 99. Only difference is he's MORE muscular NOW!!! I'm shocked.

There is a great article in this months FSM (Brit wrasslin mag) with Kurt. He is working a specific training regime targeting different areas in different sessions (he says it's more structured this time, that he just trained all parts like a demon in the past). He isn't losing muscle, he's just reducing his body fat and working on his dexterity which he'll need for London (he's also studying different amateur techniques from around the world, to make him a more rounded challenge). As such he is actually more capable of hitting his suplexes, I can't remember the last time I saw his snapping them off so quickly and crisply.

Say what you want about his size but he is in the best shape he's been in since 1996 and he has the acumen behind him that he will never be regarded as an unfeasible challenger to ANYONE (unlike, for example, Red, Kendrick, Rey or Evan).

I think why it was so noticable, is because TNA do 3 or 4 weeks worth of tapings in one go. Then there was the Destination X ppv so it was almost a month worth of weight loss between two eps of Impact...

The great athlete that he is, he would have been able to drop down into the weight he needs to be for his Olympic trials in that time. That's why it looked a bit scary.

Kurt's weight loss reminds me a lot of Bobby Heenan's weight loss when he had cancer. :p

It may be a totally different reason for Kurt than Heenan but the image is very similar. I'm just glad he IS healthy, even if he doesn't look it anymore. ... In the end I don't really care. Kurt Angle in TNA is just not entertaining, and has NOTHING on the old whiney bitch heel he used to play.

He can only be a walking joke for so long but I would mark out SO bad if I saw him with a milk carton in his hand.

I loved whiny Kurt. I hated mouth guard Kurt, though. I still don't enjoy him as much as I used to. Now he's bland. Just a wrestler who wrestles. But I suppose that's the direction he wants to take and it's not like it hasn't worked thus far. I just wish he'd have one last run as whiny heel bitch. Just for the fans.

Nothing like Kurt shoving his hand down Benoit's spandex for a little entertaiment.

Looking good. Hes getting in shape for the Olympics and the people who say he isn't serious should shut the hell up, in 2 months he's gotten himself in ridiculous shape.

hes training for the olympics thats why he slimmed down see unlike pro wrestling where there really are not any weight classes in the olympics there are and maybe just maybe he feels that the competition that he craves is in a smaller weight class so yes ive noticed kurts weight loss but ive also noticed that at 42 hes in great shape and has a huge presence in ring hes quicker when he needs to be and btw op kurt can suplex anyone he wants hes kurt freakin angle so olympic wise and pro wise i think him slimming down is a good thing
