"A Retrospective Piece"

[1st Installment]​

There is no gray area. We have all been taught early in our lives that there were two absolutes in this world: that which is good, and that which is evil. We grew up believing that through charity and hard work, we were living good, just lives and we would be rewarded for it. We were told that the cheaters, the demented and the liars would have their day, and all will be at peace.

Kingdom Come was not that day.

Dear readers, I implore you to revisit that historical night with me, as harsh as that request may be. We witnessed what some wrestling fans would call a "Last Man Standing" Match, but I sincerely doubt a man stood victorious. A hero clashed with a god for the promise of Mt. Olympus, and it came down to this particular moment:

Dr. Zeus manages to reach out and grab the bottom rope and barely pull himself up Theron looks on in disbelief, barely able to respond to what just happened. Theron lays on him completely breathless thinking of what to do next. He signals to the post and heads for it gingerly, wobbling with each step. At times even losing his footing.

Copeland: Theron Daggershield is just a moment away from retaining the World Heavyweight Championship here!!

Theron finally reaches the top ropes. Barely able to stand up on it without losing his balance, he struggles as Dr. Zeus seems completely limp on the canvas. Theron slowly gets his balance and gets up as he begins to measure. He can't keep his balance though and stalls for a long time. As he tries to get his footing straight though, Dr. Zeus begins to stagger. Finally showing signs of life he rolls over. Theron now thinks twice of what he'll do. He continues to measure but suddenly Dr. Zeus gets off his feet in a burst of adrenaline and runs up the ropes!! Both men are suddenly struggling on the top rope, dangerously they teeter as they strike at each over with everything they can. Rights, lefts, forearms, elbows, headbutts. Blow after blow they fight at the top. Zeus teeters but he gets right back to it. He rakes Theron in the eyes and

SUPER EUTHANASIA!!

Off the top rope, Zeus locks his finishing maneuver and slams Theron down with it!! The camera shakes upon the impact of Theron's body to the canvas along with Zeus being it's driving force!! Zeus uses the ropes to stand and orders the referee to count.

Cohen: OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!! What a maneuver!! From the top rope! Dr. Zeus had to slam Theron Daggershield from the top rope like that to finally put him down!! What a battle!!

Connor: Dr. Zeus had to resort to such a low to finally get the victory?! Is that how much fight Theron had in him that it forced the Dr. to such an underhanded tactic?

66, 308 spectators crowded the sold out arena in the Montreal Olympic Stadium, and I was one of those onlookers. Yours truly bought his ticket early and sat in Section 210, Row M, Seat 8. Needless to say, I fought my own battles bobbing and weaving my head around to get a clear vision of the cataclysm before me. Signs that read "Flex Is My Fitness Trainer" and "Why Titus Why?" were my own personal Dr. Zeus. It was a goddamn madhouse. But what I saw of the gladiatorial contest was nothing I could have dreamed up. When Zeus grabbed a chair and Theron went after him with his Buster Sword, I knew in that moment that this wasn't a wrestling match. This was Gabriel and Lucifer. This was the Jedi and the Sith. Someone was going to change the landscape of WZCW after the dust settled.

Needless to say, our hopes of a brighter, happier tomorrow were euthanized.

Is soul-crushing the right adjective? Because no other words can describe what I and many others felt when we saw our champion, our knight who overcame all odds to taste success, fall in battle the way so many brave warriors of so many eras fell. Theron Daggershield has inspired many a young child and hopeful adult alike to do what is right- to be good and just. To face adversity head on. There is no greater symbol of virtue than Theron in these dark days. But now a new symbol stands tall over the backdrop of this wrestling federation- a symbol of despair. One of malice, and greed, and wantonness. Everything that The Warblade ever stood against is now a king of our Mt. Olympus. A king of gods named Zeus.

I type this out now in my apartment in some awed intoxication of curiosity. Where is there to go with a being as destructive as Dr. Zeus? Where is there to go for an icon of inspiration like Daggershield? Maybe the final moments of the grandest stage of them all will help us understand what the future holds:

Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of this contest..... And NEEEEEEEEW WZCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION...... THE GOOD DOCTOR ZEUS!!!​

The lights flash in a darkened arena as thunder is heard overhead and fire emerges from the posts. Zeus and the Children of the Damned pose with their Championship belts as Chastity helps Zeus stand. As that goes on, fire emerges all around the arena as ashes begin to fall from the ceiling, showering the ring.

Copeland: What does this mean for WZCW? A literal dark cloud has formed above us as the building seems as if it was set on fire.

Connor: A new age of darkness has seemingly begun here tonight, gentlemen.

Cohen: Congratulations to our new World Champion after such an amazing performance. Come on, guys. Don't exaggerate. We'll be fine.

The Champions continue to pose on the ring as now symbols begin to dangle from the rafters in flames. The graphic appears on screen signalling the end of the show as the arena is ablaze.........

Not since Ty Burna's Chaotic Reign have I dreaded what some vile creature would do as our World Champion. The flames that night seemed to give emphasis to the moment; it aimed to burn itself into our collective memory. A chilling fire tended by the hand of a madman.

But we must hold on and endure, dear readers. We must turn our thoughts and prayers to the courageous Theron Daggershield in hopes that he will regain the title. That Dr. Zeus and his unholiest of trinities is laid to rest, and once again the light can shine down on us fans.

There is one thing adamantly clear in these trying times. There are no gray areas now, and battle lines are being drawn in the sand. Some may feel the call to darkness, while others may surprise the WZCW Universe and see the light. This is it- the Apocalypse is upon us all. Sides will be chosen. Alliances will be made in these coming weeks and friendships will be tested. Can we witness a miracle as our crusader, that Warblade, picks himself off of the ground, dusts himself off, and gives the wretched Doctor a taste of his own medicine?

I'll be attending Apocalypse. Maybe I'll get a front row seat for the end of the world. Who knows? I think we are in for one hell of a month, though. That much is certain.
