Kevin Owens - Universal Champion

Well, that was somewhat unexpected. If they give Owens a solid run where he doesn't require Triple H or Stephanie or any variation of the Authority to help him keep the title at every turn (ala Rollins last year) then he'll be fine. Have him cheat by all means - pick at Cesaro's back injury should they face-off, use a low-blow to set up the Powerbomb etc...

Anyway, one of the best workers in WWE today is the Raw brand's Heavyweight Champion and fulfilled a dream as thus. Should be interesting to see what's going to happen next.

Give him a good fucking push!

He is so well liked in most arenas, he just might be the top face of RAW by Mania.

Predictions:

He will remain a heel.

There won't be much affiliation between him and HHH.

He will get a half ass opponent for a month or two.

He will then get Jericho.

He will lose the title around Survivor Series probably to a face Rollins.

His reign will be outshined by Rollins/ HHH/Reigns/Charlotte.

I feel like he is getting set up to be blamed for shitty house show numbers.

With love,
Captain Negative

There are a number of interesting directions this could play out. Unfortunately we will get none of those.

What we will get....

- Stephanie will act shocked towards Triple H's actions.

- WWE will think they've pulled the swerve of a lifetime when Stephanie joins H.

- Foley will get fired and replaced by Triple H. They will enlist a few goons.

- Foley will show back up having filed a legal suit which will give him power. This will set up a "control" match.

I'm sure we can all fill in remainder of the basic plot.

Guess this will free Roman up to take on the newest returning mega star frm the AE.... Kurrgan!

You say that like it's s bad thing bro! Lol

Personally, I think this is leading to our first real indicators of what the Raw side of the WM card is going to look like. I think Owens has the enough support from HHH (real life, not just on TV) to possibly carry the title all the way to Mania. Or at the very least be the part of the main focus of Raw all the way to Mania. I think a run with the title for Owens has been in the cards for some time. The suspension and subsequent de-push of Reigns and the injury to Finn Balor expedited those plans. But it's pretty well known that KO is a HHH guy, and Trips is gaining more and more influence in the creative direction of WWE. At the end of the day, Vince will have final say probably up to the day he dies or becomes so dementia-ridden and incoherent that the stockholders and board of directors force him out. But with legit chaos going on backstage on Raw (again, Reigns and Balor) Vince may give HHH the sink or swim moment he's been waiting for.

If Balor is ready by Mania, I think they'll set up the Rollins/ Balor rematch to main event Mania, and KO will wreste a "marquee" matchup against Reigns or HHH himself. If Balor can't wrestle at Mania, then I think Owens goes into Mania the champion against either Reigns (hopefully not, not for the third year in a row) OR his most natural foil, Sami Zayn, and Rollins plays a tweener role until they know for sure that he can't fight Balor, and we get the full face turn leading into a match against HHH. And if we're super lucky, Reigns gets busted for Adderall again and is suspended for Mania. Or he stays clean and they feed him either John Cena or The Undertaker (they will want Reigns in as big of a match as possible)

Not till Holy Foley Season 1 is done.

And Holy Shit! nice to see Shango.

Genuine blast from the past!

Yeah, I been popping in a bit again lately.

I hope they don't go with another Foley firing angle. How many times have we seen that?! I'd much rather see an angle where Foley and HHH are on the same page for the first time in they're careers.

Just follow me here for a moment. I know WWE doesn't acknowledge social media pages very often, but Foley has been a very outspoken proponent of KO. On Raw Monday Stephanie looked completely shocked and was very vocal towards Rollins saying she had no idea that HHH was gonna do that. Foley has the beard so it can hard to read his facial expressions. But he didn't say much.

What if, in storyline, Stephanie really didn't know that HHH was going to interfere.

Mick Foley did.

That could make an interesting wrinkle in the story.

I'd take it. If Foley makes a case of how Owens is not your stereotype Roman Reign/John Cena guy and he reminds him of him, they could add some emotion to this. The things is, they'd be like huge over.

Too bad WWE doesn't have the grapefruits to do it.

No matter what direction this storyline goes, I still think KO is going to have the backing of WWE management. He has long term security.Hes had since the day he debuted in NXT. It's always unwise to make assumptions about the future. anything can happen. But I think that worst case scenario, when Kevin Owens' WWE tenure ends, he'll have racked up at least the same amount of accolades and recognition as a Sheamus-level superstar. That's not bad. Guys like Sheamus probably have more money than they know what to do with. But KO has the benefit of having more charisma and appeal than Sheamus. Probably more than Randy Orton even.

Apparently Russo isn't happy with this decision.

According to one Mr. Russo David Arquette was more over than Owens will ever be and that wrestling has hit Rock Bottom.

I skipped RAW this week because I totally forgot they were crowning the new champion. So I checked WWE.com to see if anything happened and I saw this.

Pretty awesome for KO. The dude deserves it so much.

Really not a fan of him, but nevertheless, it was probably the best choice. Good for him. That Universal Championship looks a lot like the women's championship though. But, he's got gold again, so props to him.

It seems like such a waste. Owens was always going to win a world championship and I was holding out for a slow build Mania victory.

This.
