Sorry I'll rephrase, what I meant to ask is, has Triple H had an unbelievable match where it was him who came out the star not the other guy.

I don't mean just a main event. Like I talked about Summerslam 2002 which was a great match, but the star there was HBK, like that...

True, but that is more of a great story told by both guys.

For example who do you think was better in the WM 17 match Taker or Trips?

Taker.

As for a match where HHH came off as the star, the best would probably be the street fight with Foley actually. Foley came in as the star but that match completely made HHH.

You know its one of those little things that blow you away. I don't know if you have had the chance to watch the Bret Hart recent interview where he pretty much says Hunter is way overrated and asks if there is one match anyone can bring up where Hunter was THE performer.

I was stumped its been like 4 days now and I can't think of one.

I mean ye when I think matches with Hunter SS98, Rumble 2000, SSlam 2002, Mania 2001, but one where he was the man.

Is he just not that good in the ring? Or his style is not excitable?

It takes two people to have a great match. I don't know of many Bret matches where he was the star either. Granted it doesn't help that HHH's style when he tries to have an epic match is usually a disaster.

Let me bring HBK and Angle into the equation. These 2 are folks who have gone into a match and come out looking so much better for me. Shawn's ladder match, Angle's matches with Lesnar for me all 3 were great. The quintessential factor here is these two men go into the match and when the PPV is over, you're talking about them.

Isn't that what GREAT wrestlers do? True they are in their with someone stellar, but shine on?

To an extent but it's not about right after it. It's about years later. At the time people were talking about Foley. Now they talk about HHH.

True almost everyone says that Hunter got made that night. But where is his moment? I mean for me the Angle making HBK tap out at Mania was a moment, Shawn kicking out of the tombstone at Mania was a moment and both these guys have plenty. And I'll bring another factor here, both Angle and HBK took risks and made moments. Angle's Swansault off the cage, HBK's moonsault on the table against Flair.

Really do you NEED an aerial move to be great? In the modern era I mean.

If you count both guys coming out as stars, the ladder match against Rock at Summerslam 1998.

Despite all the craziness that the ladder match has developed into, this is still one of my favourites.

As for HHH, it is very easy to discount him being a star because almost all of his best matches were when he was the heel and a hated heel at that. Not a late 80s Ric Flair who a section of the crowd cheered for due to the show he put on.

HHH may not have been the "star" of his best matches but that should not mean you underestimate his role in making those matches so good.

Sorry to jump in but i do find him akin to Harley in that respect. Of the little matches I have seen of Race he always came across as solid and did the fundamental things perfectly and provided the other guy (babyface usually) to get the win and be THE guy.

For HHH it's the whole match. The fact that he survived it if nothing else.

Not really. Most people ahve them though.

Also HHH falls into the same category as Austin: so excellent of a character that people forget his in ring abilities.

HHH is the modern Harley Race, right down to copying the jumping knee to the face.

One last for you for now.

Taker is over. Without a doubt. I have heard this point of how he isn't in the Austin, Rock category but after Mania 20 when he went back to the dark character, I am certain people paid their hard earned money to go to a SD or buy a PPV to see him. He is an attraction he is a whole package from his entrance to his pose in the end. That's what people pay to see at Mania. Also he is an amazing at facial expressions and selling.

So would you call him a marquee player?

Did things like having Austin work many tag matches during the summer before his SummerSlam match with Taker, and taking the title off of Austin shortly after that have anything to do with trying to reduce his in ring role post neck injury?

Also, was Austin big enough back then that if WWF decided to have him hold the title for the entire 98 year once he won it, that it would have created the same buisness outcome or even improve it?

wrestling companies shouldn't put belts on celebs.

if you were forced to choose one who would it be?

The Rock. He's a celebrity.

Almost entirely.

I don't think so but not for that reason. By having Austin lose when the odds were way too high made him more realistic and therefore easier for fans to relate to.

WTF is Jim Cornette doing with Ring Of Honor I watched one of their shows the other day and none of the matches had any purpose at all. It was just a bunch of guys flipping around doing spots for no reason and no selling everything.

If you were going to start your own company what 3 guys would you bring in as bookers

If you were going to start your own company to rival WWE what 3 guys would you bring in as bookers

Cornette's been out of ROH for a few months now.
