It's really crazy to look back on history, even recent history, and see how our opinions and predictions match up against what actually ended up happening. If you go back to one of the first questions you ever answered, near the end of 2010 you said the Miz was going to lose his MITB match and not become champion before WrestleMania 27. I think your prediction was sound, because at the time there wasn't a soul that would bet on the Miz walking out of Mania 27 the WWE Champion, let alone looking good in a feud with the Rock and John Cena.

I guess my question is this: how do you think the Miz's run as WWE Champion went? Do you think he really proved wrong everyone who said he couldn't hold his own at the top? And what do you see in the future for the "Awesome One" going into WrestleMania 28?

I think it went very well. He was a solid heel and given how young he is, I could see him being like Sheamus: out of the main event for awhile then right back into it.

Depends on the gimmick. He was never getting anywhere as Isaac Yankem.

That was the way things worked then. When you had HHH and Rock trading the title, it made every show look interesting. Also, Rock is a better title chaser than holder.

Anyone not named HHH did so yes.

I doubt it. Perhaps, but a guy like Cena is going to rise up no matter what.

I doubt it. I still don't see the appeal in MVP.

I've seen this theory a lot and I don't get where it comes from at all. I can't think of any scenario where that would make sense.

I can't stand combing through the white noise of the hundreds of short bus riders in the non-spam section, so I'll just come right to a person whose opinion I border on being interested in and ask: How valid do you consider the comparisons being made between 1996 Austin's fan base and Punk's current fan base?

I'm not entirely sure I get what you're asking but I'll go with what I think it is.

I think there are similarities but they're more different than the same. Back in 96 there seemed to have been years of fans ready to revolt. People had heard Hogan talk for years about how you need to be good and how it was good vs. evil and all that jazz. You had ECW with the Revolution and you could feel this rebellion from the fans brewing. Austin was the first person to come out and say that in public. Punk seems to be doing something like that, but I don't think it has the legs to it that Austin did. Granted it helps that Austin is a far more interesting performer than Punk is, partially because Austin came out of nowhere for all intents and purposes whereas Punk has been around for years and is an established A-list guy. They're similar but I don't think Punk's has the staying power due to the fans not having been building to it for as long.

Cena's only been getting shit on by a sizable portion of the audience for six years now. I wouldn't say there's no build for someone like Punk to swoop in and make a lot of noise.

Yeah there's definitely some build for it and the audience reaction shows that, but at the same time it's not like Cena's reactions have gone down to almost nothing like Hogan's were. Also Austin at first wasn't really rebelling against one person. It was just the older generation in general. The other difference is a lot of people still really like Cena and like the WWE system. It's designed to get people to take sides and it's worked really well. However it also has to be noted that I can't imagine people knew how big Austin would become at the time so Punk very well could get huge also.

I definitely understand that Cena still has plenty of appeal. No doubt about it. I'm just wondering if Vince McMahon has woken up and decided that the town is in fact big enough for the two of us (kinds of wrestling fans). It definitely feels to me like that's in the air. Which speaks to how well this is all being done.

Maybe, but it's going to depend on where this goes. If it's just a month long angle then it'll be forgotten about rather quickly. Also it's not going to work if Cena just gets the title right back like two months later. And with Rock vs. Cena seemingly carved into stone for Mania 28, I can't picture that happening. It being a long term mega push for Punk that is.

Meh. Rock vs. Cena will continue to appeal to who it appeals to in spite of Punk while Punk's match will appeal to those other people. While WM28 is already can't miss, I imagine Punk is just the kind of guy to hook those hold-outs.

Desperate Punk markism seems to be the theme this weekend. I'm just going with it.

Can you imagine a scenario in which Rock wins the title at Mania? Assuming, as was brought up a few pages ago, that the WWE can do without the title on the road, I can picture a short Rock reign in the books.
