I bought myself ONS 2006 (it was cheaper than 2005, although that is my next purchase; it also has Barely Legal as an extra disc but fails to advertise that fact at all - a nice bonus even if it is just okay) to see the whole PPV again rather than just the matches and I think Dreamer/Funk vs Edge/Foley is one of the most well built and executed hardcore matches I have ever seen. Those four beat the holy hell out of one another.

I know that at the time it was part of its allure as being different from the Big Two but had ECW had that creative filter and decision maker like Vince working above the ideas man in Heyman, then this is the kind of hardcore we might have had - something where the violence actually made sense rather than just for the sake of it.

Of course, it helps when you have three Hall of Famers in the ring all at once. As I think you said in your review of the show, Edge definitely looked like a star in that match but at the same time there was still a part of the young tearaway who threw himself off ladders and through tables.

Yeah that's an awesome match. The buildup to it is even better with Foley wanting the Alliance to return instead of watching what WWE was doing at the time.

I've just started watching the Raws from 1999 and I'm on the show with the Taker and Dennis Knight ritual. Russo at his looniest. Checking out your review of the show, you said the angle got even worse. What was the worst bit?

Michaels vs. HHH, although Edge/Mysterio vs. Benoit/Angle is mind blowing.

Edge/Mysterio vs. Benoit/Angle is my favorite tag match ever. Just awesome. Michaels vs. HHH is among my all time favorites. I'm just not sure if match of the year should be judged by bell to bell action or a combination of action, story, hype, crowd, significance, etc. HBK vs. HHH is easily better than Hogan vs. Rock in terms of action but Hogan vs. Rock has the mania banner and that unbeliveable crowd. Both have returning legends but Hogan is the biggest legend of all. Tough call for me.

The first one given the lisp that Swagger has, and the other one giving the fact that Cesaro speaks a lot of languages. That's all.
