No. Not even close. More like HHH's.

....there's a purpose? Why? Why can't people just like to be heels and try to get their leader the world title?

Other than the fact that they talked about, over and over, how they had a much higher purpose?

And this has to be some big revealed secret? This is the issue I have with Russo's influence on the wrestling world: everything has to be this HUGE announcement and clearly specified thing that we eventually hear. It's pretty clear what Nexus is doing: they were fed up with how they were treated on NXT so they rebelled. Now it's them vs. the world (either Nexus or against us) and they've carved a place out for themselves and are now just a group of wrestlers that have banded together and are watching each others' backs. There's no end game to it. They're not trying to seize power or anything like that. They feel that they're better than everyone else and are here because they belong here, which is their purpose: to be there and to be the best.

KB, did Orton and Batista really need Evolution?

I think so to an extent. Batista in 2004-05 was the undisputed hottest thing in the world and a lot of that was due to him just taking on HHH. Before that though, he was just a big muscle guy. Big power guys (think Diesel) have to be associated with someone else before they can turn face and strike out on their own. Basically Big Dave did the same thing Diesel did but on a bigger scale.

Orton.....I'm not sure actually. He was getting over on the cocky dude that is virtually unbeatable push and more or less turned face in the Benoit match which had nothing to do with Evolution. I think he could have and would have been far more successful than Batista, but at the same time I don't think he'd be what he is today without Evolution.

I have entertained this thought myself that this is the higher purpose that they were talking about all along. But I'm not going to completely discredit that they have a higher purpose that involves something more or deeper, possibly involving Triple H, The mystery GM, or even Michael Cole. It's great TV either way, but I'm not discrediting wither theory.

How about a few questions of my own. What are your feelings on Deception, Immortals and Fortune, and Hardy as a heel. How would you have booked it differently and how would you book it from here?

Also what are your thoughts on Styles a a heel at this point and where he goes from here. Also, thoughts on Joe?

And for WWE, thoughts on Husky Harris and Zack Ryder?

KB, was there ANYTHING that could have saved WCW?

That's a VERY hard question to answer. Starting at what point, as the answers can change a lot based on when you want to start from.

Deception: I'm still waiting on them to actually mention this angle. It got really confusing and more or less was only hinted at to the point where I said "wait, THAT was Deception?" I've been a fan over 20 years, I have a college degree and I would think I know a lot about pro wrestling. When I have to be told they're discussing a certain angle, something is very, very wrong.

Immortals: it's the NWO. That's all it is and that's all it's going to be. There was no need to add Fourtune to it but the second the music hit I knew that's where they were going with it. Hardy as a heel....I'm very skeptical. I suppose it could work but I really don't know. Until Impact it never felt like a heel turn to me. It felt forced to a very high degree which is not a good thing. Having Hogan and Bischoff there for it REALLY hurt it a lot I think as the spotlight was on them. Hogan got what, literally 45 minutes of camera time last week and Hardy got maybe 5? Isn't Hardy like, champion?

AJ is a natural face. I have absolutely no clue why he's a heel. He wrestles like a face, he acts like a face, he looks like a face, but he's a heel. It was a really bad idea for a turn back in January. He was already the best in the world. What was Flair going to make him? The best wrestler on Venus?

Joe is someone that TNA simply overthinks. He comes out there, he beats people up, he's a badass, he looks cool, the fans LOVE him, so let's have him get kidnapped by ninjas. Back when he debuted he was awesome and the match vs. Angle was a great build. And somehow they screwed that up. Joe is the epitome of a character where less is more and TNA simply cannot get that.

Harris I didn't like at all when he started but he slowly grew on me to the point where I only disliked him.

Ryder I simply do not get the appeal of at all. I never have and I never will.

Starrcade '97. When the first "bullet" was fired.

Oh sure they could have after that. A lot of stuff still could have been done. They were still in the lead for four months after that. It was the next two months of Hogan doing bullshit and crippling Sting then getting the title back in April when people got pissed off and said screw this let's watch Raw. Austin is new there. At that point WCW was on defense and they never got out of it because they couldn't get out of their own way.

How about after the Fingerpoke of Doom?

After that it would have been REAL difficult to do. The company was in total freefall then and it was nothing but old guys winning the title. The problem was the same that WWF had back in 97: how do we get people to stop watching the other show? When Raw got stupid, WCW got worse. WCW started getting desperate and it just got worse and worse. This stat sums up WCW in 1999 as a whole: the whole year, two people in a PPV main event match were under 37 years old at the time: Goldberg (3 main events) and Benoit (1 main event). There were NO new faces at all other than Benoit who lost and Goldberg who main evented the first show of the year then didn't have a main event on PPV for 9 months.

Oh and to add to that point: of Goldberg's the main events, two weren't for the title. One was a grudge match and one was non title where he pinned Sting clean but it wasn't for the title. See what I mean?

Definitely.

Do you think more of the Cruiserweights deserved to be showcased?

They were showcased pretty well I thought. Moving them up to the US Title scene would have been nice though. WCW had a FAR too rigid emphasis on weight classes never facing each other for far too long. It was heavyweight and cruiserweight and that's it. Rey vs. Savage would have been interested for instance. My guess always was that the old guys were afraid they would be shown up which I think makes sense.

The old guys couldn't hang with the Cruiserweights. I've always thought that. The big thing I think about though is this: Wouldn't you rather see Rey vs Jericho or Eddie vs Malenko than Hogan vs Nash for a minute and a half? I know what I would rather watch.

The problem with that is you need to have them face the old established guys to give them some credability first. WCW never did that and it caught up with them.

Best year for Smackdown and best year for Raw since the brand split?

I think 2003 was a great year for Smackdown as you had Benoit, Angle, and Lesnar having great match after great match.

2007 was a decent year for Raw. Michaels and Cena had two great matches and Orton was pushed.

Exactly. Although, the fans LOVED Dean Malenko. (MALENKO, ALL CAPS... sorry bad Matt Hardy joke) He would have been just fine, and so would have some of the other guys. In all honesty though, I don't get why they were so scared of putting Cruiserweights over though.

Might be this year or last year for Smackdown. Raw is harder to pin down as the show has sucked in large quantities at times. It migth be this year by default for Nexus.

I thought it was a circular argument: they didn't draw money because they weren't in the main event and they weren't in the main event because they didn't draw money. No one got a break ever no matter how hard they worked they weren't getting above the opening stuff because the big stars HAD to main event the shows. No one could get a push at all and the champions were SO protected it was absurd.

For instance there was a weird as hell angle at a show where Windham and Hennig were tag champions and were fighting Malenko and Benoit. The weird twist was that Malenko and Benoit had to beat them once and then beat them again to win the titles. Malenko gets Hennig to tap out and then immediately Windham blasts him with a belt and Hennig pins him to keep the titles. It was so stupid because a generic team like the cowboys (Hennig and Windham) got beaten CLEAN but get to keep the belts over young guys like Benoit and Malenko just because they were established names. Stuff like that is what killed WCW.

Idiotic. I can't say much more than that.
