When all else fails, blame Hogan. I still stand by that moment as the first bullet to WCW.

It was the first major loss for WCW. Hogan and Co. didn't know when to stop. Sting, the most over guy, had to pick up a controversial win and then get stripped! How does that make ANY sense?!

Seriously, blame Hogan.

Check the post I link I put up a few pages back. I went on the mother of all rants about WCW's general idiocy and that was one of the main points.

The problem with WCW was the clusterfuck of stardom they tried to pull off. Nobody would check their ego. I always loved their Cruiserweight Division, one of the best divisions in wrestling history. They deserved more MEs. Then there's the whole Russo - Bischoff combo (shudders). Bret was right, Bischoff doesn't know shit about wrestling.

When he elminated himself right? Better first world title win: Savage or Mankind?

Mankind by far. Savage beating Flair wasn't much. I heard some rumor that he beat DiBiase but all I remember was Hogan getting the big shot, Hogan getting the big moment by evening the odds and Hogan raising the hand of Savage. I also remember reading Savage's lips at the end of Mania 4 where he said "please let me have my moment" but Hogan wouldn't leave.

Oh, I know. Some of the best posts I've seen on WZ are your posts concerning WCW.

I hate to brag....ok that's bullshit but whatever, but I got I think 8 reps for that WCW post, most of which said it was my best ever and a former staff member said the best post ever here.

Aaaand KB has arguably the best two posts ever on WZ.

If Sting squashed Hogan at Starrcade '97 and saved WCW, as I believe you said it should have been and I agree, where should WCW have gone from there?

That's a very good question. For one thing, I think it goes on to become the only major wrestling company in America as WWF would have gone under. From a storyline perspective I would assume Sting holds it for a LONG time before eventually turning heel or something and then a new face rises up to claim it with Hogan turning face. Hogan might have been the face to take it back but it's hard to say.

Would a heel Sting vs. Goldberg for the title at Starrcade '98 be one of the better options for it? Or would a year be too long even in '97/'98?

When did you stop seeing wrestling as a mark?

Probably around 99 or so. A buddy of mine, the one that got me into WZ, liked the booking side of things and explained angles he would run so he got me out of it a lot. Then I got on here more and started getting the idea of it.

That could work, but once Hogan got the title back in April was when Goldberg's push had really gotten going. I think a year was workable as Hogan had the title for about 16 months minus 6 days prior to Starrcade, but I think it would have been too long.

That makes sense. Now I remember you talking about Goldberg beating Hogan on Nitro in Atlanta for the title and how it screwed a lot of things up as they blew their load too quickly. If Goldberg won at Starrcade instead, does WCW take a nail out of the coffin, or is it still a sinking ship because they wouldn't have known what to do after that?

Was there any guy whose career would have improved if they left WCW for WWE before it caved?

Just about anyone. Vince would have received them much better if they left earlier.

I don't think so, no. Nash winning or any old guy beating him would have been a nail in it.
