Kanye FRIGGIN West

Profit

Righteously Sinful
This guy is the shit, probably the best hip hop guy right now.

He knows music, his songs sound original and are catchy as hell. He doesn't use profanity or anything like that to bolster his songs, he's just amazing.

Discuss his greatness.

He'll use profanity every now & then in his rap songs. He is good at rapping & being a producer but his thing with autotune is flat out terrible cause he can't sing & it's just not good.

Are you serious? Every musician, as far as singing, uses some studio shit to enhance their own voice. The fact that he does it in no way, shape, or form should take away from the music that he makes.

He's still the one that comes up with the words, the beats, the flow, all of that. It's all him, the fact that he uses something to make himself sound good is what EVERYONE else does as well.

Knocking him for that, you'd have to knock everybody else as well.

I'm not knocking on his music as I like Kanye West but Autotune isn't exactly for everyone. There are few people who know how to use Autotune(examples:Chris Brown to a point & T-Pain) & the people who don't seem right with Autotune(examples:Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Ron Brownz). I'm just saying that Kanye should stick to what works & what works best with his talents is rapping, not singing with Autotune.

I love Kanye West. Although I don't think he's as good as he likes to think, he still is one of the most commerical sucessful artists today.

All 4 of his albums have been met with both critical and commerical sucess. Graduation, Late Registration , and The College DropOut have all recieved Grammy Best Album nominations and he's won 9 Grammy's himself. He's also had 4 #1 songs and is a staple in music today.

His new album 808 & Heartbreaks, just shows how Kanye likes to try different stuff. He took a chance to step away from his rapping to try the autotune thing and fans still accepted him and both singles have been really sucessful.

But with commerical sucess aside Kanye is actually a very good artist. He started off producing and writing and then turned to rapping. He has a more hip/hop approach and just doesn't sing about slapping a ho or killing, he talks about other issues trying to bring different things to the forefront(Dimaonds from Sierra Leon)being an example. I just really like West as an artist and am a big fan of the guy, although his ego is out of this world.

Doubt it he isn't that good, as a producer he is ok but as a musician himself not so much.

He knows music,

of course he does why do you think he takes songs that people in the US and elsewhere generally have not known about or have forgotten about.

his songs sound original

because at one time they were, with the original artist, and the name of them varies greatly but it sure as hell ain't Kanye West.

and are catchy as hell.

Because the original usually is. case in point being "Stronger" that is a straight up rip of a Daft Punk song. While I think the riff for the Daft punk version is a rip the lyrics are original. Kanye uses the original and I have yet to hear anyone on Radio and TV point out the fact that Daft Punk did the original lyrics. but the original is far catchier than kanyes one as well

He doesn't use profanity or anything like that to bolster his songs,

bullshit he does. He has even told a fan to ''eat shit and die" at a concert.

he's just amazing.

debatable

Discuss his greatness.

not really a possibility, since he isn't really that great.

Kanye is overrated plain and simple. As an artist he's honestly a shit rapper and an even worse singer. I will give him credit as a producer however, he's alright in that regard. I agree with Shadowmancer he jacks songs from other artists and turns them into his own. I will say this though, that original hip hop had a lot of of samples from older songs but they never ripped them off as bad as Kanye has. I place him in the same boat as T-Pain and Lil Wayne, extremely overrated but makes money because he can make "club" music.

I think if he came out and made a political album, that may partially change my opinion of him, but until then I can only see him as a commercial rapper. I would honestly rather listen to Nelly then Kanye and I cannot stand Nelly for the life of me.

I love Kanye West. He's a great producer and a pretty good rapper. College Dropout and Late Registration were awesome. Graduation and 808s werent as good as those, but they were still decent. I don't understand why some people don't like him because of his arrogance; what the fuck does that have to do with his music? I personally think it's funny and kinda cool. I saw him live at one of concerts for the glow in the dark tour and he said that he was the greatest artist artist in the universe, no lie. It was pretty awesome.

He's a great producer, no doubt about that. As a rapper he isn't anything special but he has the tunes and the charisma to pull everything off. He obviously knows what the people want and he has been known to take some chances as a producer which has to be commended. Personally I'm not a fan but I like stuff like The Roots, Talib Kweli and Common so naturally I'm not into the commercial stuff too much so really my opinion is kind of irrelevant I guess. That said I like him a lot more than all of the other commercial hip-hop so I guess taking that into consideration I guess he's not that bad.
