Kalisto: The Next Gen Rey Mysterio?

Wrestling Mind 300

Dark Match Winner
The team of Sin Cara and Kalisto known as The Lucha Dragons made their debut on the night after Wrestlemania and what a debut it was. If you missed it I would recommend you go back and watch as I can't do it justice by just talking about it. The crowd were behind them, Kalisto went all out displaying amazing moves that I can't even name like the springboard corkscrew splash, that spinning kick thing he does, and the fans were digging it. This had me thinking.

Is Kalisto the next gen Rey Mysterio? After the Sin Cara flop I think wwe have hit the jackpot this time round with a masked Mexican talent and I don't know much about him and I wouldn't want to overrate him especially as it was the night after Wrestlemania but that man surely has a bright future along with Adrian Neville with those performance snd I hope wwe sees that.

Kalisto has been built up as the next Rey Mysterio for a while now, and on Raw he proved that he has the chops to do it. When he came out and hit that hurricanrana on Cesaro, my first reaction was, wow we haven't seen a move like that done that crisply SINCE Rey Mysterio.

I find it almost scary how reminiscent he is of Mysterio. He's going out there and changing what it means to be a high-flier, and exciting the crap out of crowds. No clue how he is at cutting promos but if he can at least get himself up to Mysterio level, the future looks very bright for him.

I also noticed that in one night, he outshined (the original) Sin Cara's entire WWE career. Shows you what hype really means...

I don't like these kinds of comparisons. WWE is trying to make Roman Reigns the next John Cena, when they should instead make Roman Reigns the...first Roman Reigns. The fans rejected Reigns for this reason.

If Kalisto is written to be the next "Rey Mysterio", it might cramp his style. I'm not very familiar with Kalisto, but what kind of character is he? Can he talk? Is he the underdog? Is he dominant, even if he's the athletic babyface? I'm not sure what his strengths are, but I'd rather WWE just focus on making Kalisto an exciting, interesting and gravity defying Luchador. If they try to hard to make him the next Rey, the differences might derail his momentum.

Kalisto is amazing from what I have seen of him, He is basically Rey Mysterio from 96-99, he speaks very good English and has a good look. It helps that he is still fairly young. He is better than Sin Cara and if they gave him the same push he would do well in my opinion.

Just because he's latino & masked doesn't mean he's going to Rey Rey - I really think that if they book him correctly that he could be much bigger than Rey ever was in WWE. He has unending talent, he connects unbelievably with the fans & could be a World Champ one day if allowed to flourish. Seeing him in TV doesn't do him justice - I have seen him in person several times & he has the same level of intensity in his matches as Daniel Bryan (when allowed) - I have been high in him since the first time I saw him as Samuray del Sol

I've thought that Kalisto has had the potential to be the next Rey Mysterio for quite a while now. He's got the bright, colorful look that kids like, he has a ton of athletic ability, speed, balance and agility that can make for some highly entertaining matches, he has a kind of natural, sorta harmless charisma that can make him acceptable in terms of being family friendly.

He received a big pop this past Monday but, then again, the post WrestleMania crowd is usually the smarkiest of the year. There were a LOT of fans there that night who also watch NXT on the WWE Network, but I think Kalisto will catch on with the more average fans if he's booked properly. As of right now, Kalisto & Sin Cara being in the tag team scene is the perfect place for him to be built up in the eyes of fans. I've said that WWE needs a good, fast team of high flyers for a while and the Lucha Dragons fit the bill nicely. If the tag team division had the Lucha Dragons, the Usos, Kidd & Cesaro, a repackaged New Day, a repackaged Ascension and a reuniting of Harper & Rowan, there's the potential for the overall strongest tag team division WWE has had possibly ever.

He is a dope talent, I like him but as of right now he is another faceless luchador like the ones we see on Lucha Underground, we haven't gotten to see his personality yet and it seems like he just gonna be smiley and flippy.

Rey was/is awesome, one of my favorites ever and if Kallisto is booked like him he has a decent future.

I want to see Kalisto be the next great luchador in WWE. He certainly has the skill. That spot where he jumped off of Cesaro's shoulders on Raw this week was incredible.

We need to see him build his own legacy instead of building off of someone else's. Mysterio was able to connect with fans beyond what he was able to do on the mat. Can Kalisto? Can he talk? Can he become that larger than life character and keep the smarter crowds from turning on him as a babyface?

His singles match with Tyler Breeze on NXT a week or two ago definitely saw the crowd more behind Breeze than Kalisto. I don't think that's a slight against Kalisto, Breeze has gotten himself over despite being a self obsessed heel. What happens when Kalisto is up against large personalities on the main roster?

It's far too early in the young man's career to tell how he'll connect. He has the skill, but we've seen his look over and over again. I'd say the potential is there based on skill alone and he's already made the tag team division far more exciting after one major main roster appearance (I know he's been on Superstars and/or Main Event, but those weren't exactly main roster debuts).

Imagine if Mysterio was still with WWE. They could have built towards Mysterio vs. Kalisto at Wrestlemania. Oh well. I hope Kalisto is given the same opportunities as Mysterio and if he continues to get over, he will break away from Sin cara and get a singles run.

He is fantastic in the ring and would be a great addition to the roster. A very fast paced little guy could have some great matches, just dont have him be the WHC lol. He seems to have a good future, go for the gold and the fans will love him.
