John Cena - Is he really a fan favorite?

With pretty much everyone else this would be an easy question to answer.... Cena is BOOKED to be the top fan favorite. He does have a lot of people who like him but the fan reaction is still fairly divided. He may not be popular with ALL fans, but I say that he is indeed a fan favorite because he is still getting a face reaction from large portions of the crowd and that is what he is supposed to be getting with how he is booked. Now if only there were a way to convince those haters to stop chanting "Cena sucks"....

Some like him, some don't. I think those who hate him exaggerate the percentage of fans who agree with them, and I think those who love him are blind when it comes to how many people really do dislike John Cena.

I don't like him, but yes, he's a fan favorite. If he weren't moving a shit ton of merchandise, there wouldn't be a reason to keep him on top, surely not his odd crowd reactions. He's making money for the company, which means a good percentage of fans like him. You can attempt to diminish that by saying his fans are all kids, but what's the difference? He's drawing money, therefore, he's a fan favorite.

He may not be as over with the entire crowd as Taker, Orton, HHH, etc., but those who love him are probably the most loyal fans on this planet.

Yes sometimes he gets booed more than everyone, but

A) Getting booed is only a sign of what a certain amount of people think. It's not like WWE loses money when fans boo. People boo Miz way more than Kofi, but you see no one wearing Kofi's stupid shirts in events, while you see a decent amount wearing a Miz one.

B) He gets cheered more than anyone at the same time. There ain't one damn fan report form TV tapings or live events that hasn't ranked Cena as the one who got the biggest pop.

C) He's an Icon among company's main customers, kids and U-14
teenagers.

D)If we have an Arena with a 20000 attendance rate, for other superstars there's about 3000-4000 fans who make some noise, for Cena It's usually 10000+.

E) It depends what do you mean by fan-favorite. If you think you have to subtract the amount of haters from fans and then decide if the guy's a fan favorite, then you may have a point. But I don't use this method and WWE surely doesn't cause It's brutally stupid.

F) Even tough It's an stupid yet true argument, but You should always remember that the sound of 20 guys chanting in front rows are way more than hundereds of kids and women in upper rows.

Is Cena a "fan-favorite"? Sure he is, it is what he is billed as. Wrestling promotions will FOREVER determine who is boo'd and who is cheer'd by the majority of the audience. Faces get pops, heels get heat from the MAJORITY. Now there are always a few situations that make this an exception..visiting a certain wrestlers home town or a great controversy in a situation can alter this. But for the most part, it is the way it works.

I truly believe their are more "marks" out there than the IWC realizes and they follow this path to a "T". Now many males in my age group 20-30 can not STAND Cena! I have a few friends who love him, however...it is almost a hit and miss thing these days. I forever have not liked him and never will. But sure, I would say he is a"fan favorite."

Is Cena a fan favorite yes he is, don't let the boos fool you, and yes he does get booed, Cena has his fans out there.

TM Punk mentioned the evolution of many WWE Stars and how they went from bad guy to babyface, let me add one more: Kurt Angle. When he was a heel, chanting "You Suck" to his theme became the in thing to do at WWE shows, even when he turned babyface people still chanted "You Suck" to his theme even while cheering him because, to quote Kurt, he "earned that right".

I still don't understand why the majority of male fans boo Cena and maybe it is because they were so spoilled on the Attitude era, but sometimes you do need to build a bridge and get over it. Because if your boos turn Cena heel, you will be cheering for him again, eventually. But to answer your question, yes he is a favorite.

okay i am not a john cena hater , but it seems like on every raw episode he gets booed more than heels. so i ask , is he really a fan favorite? if you think so , why?

Of course he's a fan favorite.

Favorite just means if something is popular.

He's simultaneously loved and hated, incredible.

Favorite doesn't have to mean people like the guy, the fact that he gets such an amazing reaction shows that.

People love to love him or hate him.

He's a fan favorite.

He does not get booed more than the heels. The people who boo him are just adults and men so 1 man = 5 children as far as noice I'd guess. Plus it's deeper and boos are easier to make louder so they resonate more.

Also, Cena doesn't want the smarks to cheer him. It's his character. He's a heel to them, a face to everyone else. It's why ratings didn't go up for CM Punk but the crowd reaction did. Smarks are a loud but small group. Working them makes the rest of the audience louder. In Cena's case, 1 smark boos him, 10 kids cheer louder. It makes for more interesting TV and a louder reaction. Smarks don't pay for PPVs (they stream) and they don't buy merch (unless it's the net darling, which is never the top dog, Japanese, or indy). So why try to make them cheer and not just run with the "I'm corny, muscular, and nice, I'm John Cena"?

I HATE how many people compare stuff to the Attitude Era. You guys do realize that a TON of people hated the tude era? It was vulgar and basically a Jerry Springer show that would feature about 10 minutes of wrestling in the entire show, usually a few matches interrupted around the 3 minute mark with a run in with like a pimp beating up his hoes with a *****. Times are different, you can't just sit there and go "I want wrestling to be like when I first watched and never change". That's stupid. Learn to appreciate and understand why things are the way they are.

Also, Vince sees the quarter hour ratings reports and merch sales. A "crowd favorite" to me isn't a guy who gets cheered, but a guy people want to see. The majority of people who boo cena love to boo him. Either consciously or without realizing it. If they didn't, they'd stop watching when he comes on TV and stop coming to live events; or if they come to a live event they wouldn't make any noise during his matches. They don't though. Cena sells the most merch and gets the loudest reactions.
