Job/Career

I'm currently unemployed myself, i'm trying to find a job outside of retail. I'm starting college at ITT Tech next month, Criminal Justice, at least hopefully if all the student loans and whatnot go well. I have an application pending at UPS, they're in need of help and they pay pretty good, probably gonna pay better because of the holiday season coming up. There's also applications pending at Lowe's hardware and GameStop. I'm just trying to get some money saved away for college and the holidays.

I am currently unemployed thanks to my friend gettin us fired last week. Im tryin to get money to go back to wrestling school so I can become a wrestler but if that doesn't pan out then I wanna be either a teacher or a big time business man just cuz im really smart when it comes to money

I'm a Personal Trainer at fitness First in my area (don't have to travel far). I think it's a great job, when you think about it.... I'm getting paid to work out and get others to work out. The worst part of the job is that when people just don't want to do anything about their current self, yet they paid me for the "private classes"

I currently am working at a Starbucks, earning a steady income so that I may afford to get a car and a place of my own. I was going to school for theater arts, but I left after two semesters. It wasn't working out for me, I wasn't happy, and statistically, having a degree in theater arts does very little to increase your chances of getting work anyway, save a few places like Juliard or NYU. You're more likely to increase your callback rate by making up an interesting stage name than by having a BA in theater. I do intend to pursue a career in acting, I just need to get a few aspects of my life in order first. I'm always looking out for work, even if it doesn't pay.

I feel the pain you feel, I have been at Starbucks for an exact total of 4 and a half years and I have grown to hate it. I am on my 4th manager and he is a total dick because my other manager decided he was done with Starbucks. I tried to leave but failed. I am trying really hard to find a sports reporting job in any field whether it be tv or radio. I really really really really really really want to leave Starbucks but the stars have not alligned for me yet and I am hoping that they do soon because I want to leave that damned evil place.

That's funny. I want to get a summer job at Starbucks. I love that place. It's a quiet, relaxing place to work. And I think it's fun to chat with random strangers. Not to mention, I could just make myself a drink whenever! (I might pay for it. :eek3:)

I think it'd be fun. Eh?

Let me give you the ups and downs of working at Starbucks

Good
1. Meet a lot of people
2. Meet a lot of girls (workers and customers)
3. New experiences
4. New skills you learn
5. Relaxing atmosphere if the dots connect

Bad
1. Some of the people you meet are dicks
2. Many of the girls all have problems (pregnancies or other shit)
3. Corporate is forcing those who work to be split in half meaning part time workers will always have same hours at same time and no benefits
4. Coprorate is on your ass
5. There is always a chance you will get a manager like the one I have, who lies to your face.

I am currently a student, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education and English. I held a job for two years as a Manager of a Restaurant, but lost it this October. I am about to start a job as a Paraprofessional, working in various High Schools across my tri-state area. It's closer to my field than food management, and it pays the same...

I am also a Teaching Assistant at a Dance Studio in my "spare" time, but I don't make too much money from it. It's for gas, for food -- like $50 a month or something. There are a lot of Coaches at the studio, and I am content giving everyone else their moments to shine. I'll get into a classroom soon enough, but if a replacement is needed or a lesson opens up, I am the one they call.

My current job right now is a housekeeper/laundry person in a nursing home. I like my job, I just don't care for the people I work with. I would much rather be in the laundry department full time because I enjoy listening to music when I'm working and I'm not around a bunch of people.

As for career wise, I would love to be an accountant. Right after High School I went to college but only ended up finishing one class out of 5. I just don't think I was ready for college at that time. Now I wish I could go back and finish so I can get my degree in Accounting.

Currently, I am seeking employment with the U.S. federal government, as job security is my biggest concern right now. Eventually, within 5 years or so, I intend to go back to school to get my Ph.D. in Economics (I want to specialize in either International Trade or International Finance) and, hopefully from there, land a tenure-track position at a large university near a major American city (e.g., George Mason in Fairfax, VA, or University of Maryland in College Park, MD, both near Washington, D.C.). I couldn't think of anything better than being a professor of Economics. I would have about 15 hours a week of teaching and office hours combined, and then the rest of my work week would be spent working on and contributing research to a field of study I absolutely love. Of course, my dream would be to some day win the Nobel Prize in Economics, but, for right now, I will just worry about getting into an Economics graduate program.

Well I'm studying law at the University of Vienna and finally in the process of getting sh*t together and finishing up here... gonna take about a year now still I guess, but at least there's some light at the end of the tunnel. ;) I'm also stuyding theatre-, film- and media science here, but only out of interest and not really dedicated... since I just don't really have the time for it. But I plan on doing some more stuff next semester when I will hopefully have finished with all "regular" classes on law (and only have to take exams without having to sit in lectures all day).

Aside from that, I've been working as a teacher for English on a very part-time basis for the past three years at an institute that offers private tuition for school kids... that was a pretty neat job as it paid quite well even if I only worked a couple of hours each week. However, since I needed something to improve my CV a little in the law department, I've been working as Legal Assistant at a software company now since June this year. The job's quite ok, and I'm working more now than I used to (which unfortunately means less time for other stuff - but fortunately means more money heh); I plan on staying here until I've been here one year, if I can at that time find a job at some lawyer's office, since that is something that is still missing on my resumé and could really help... But I guess it depends on whether someone will take me or not ;)

After graduation, I really have no plans... I guess for a start I'd try my luck and see how working at a law firm works for me... but I have the notion that this will not really be something for me. So I guess I'll just have to see where I end up... personally, I'd be more interested in international relations / international law than the "big money" business of private law; so maybe I can find something in that area. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Ah and yeah, of course I'd always prefer to be a rock star. :D
