Jim Ross Returns!

Showing Off is what I do best
As we saw, last night, Triple H has re-signed Jim Ross.

Now, I'm not sure if he is really re-signed but, I'm hoping he is and will continue to commentate. When he came out, I actually marked out. I was really happy to see him and wasn't expecting him to return at all.

I really hope he takes over Cole's spot and they get rid of Cole. He's just annoying and messes up way to much.

So what do you think is going to happen with JR? Will he work full time and on what show?

I hope he stays on RAW with Jerry. And I think if he isn't, by next month he should work full time?

What was your reaction when he returned?

Michael Cole got a little too anoying for me to bare anymore so I for one am glad JR is back. King really was starting to get annoying as well and JR seemed to be the only one who could make him more bareable. His commentary is definitely taking me back and Jim Ross definitely gave RAW a different feel last night on RAW. Do I think he's back for good? Yeah I believe so. I would love for Cole to be exclusive to Smackdown. He's a good ceommentator but needs to lay off on the heel role, he's getting annoying. I'm just glad JR is back.

I think JR should be on Raw and Cole should be shipped off to Smackdown for good. He is real annoying on Raw, but I find him and Booker funny on Smackdown... Not a good funny, but better than annoying.

I knew it wasn't gonna be Punk, but I had NO idea it would be good ol' J.R! Everytime I hear that Oklahoma theme song and see JR and King sitting together, a rush of nostalgia comes through me. JR is the voice of WWE. Cole plays a good heel, but he gets annoying. At times, it's hard to tell if he's heel or face. But none the less, I'm glad Jim Ross is back, I'll enjoy it while it lasts!

Great to hear JR calling last night's action after so long without him. Hopefully Cole leaves the announcers' table, at least the Raw one, so JR can work on his own. I doubt the two of them together would be any good, as it would probably be ruined by Cole bitching about losing his lead position. As long as JR feels he's healthy enough to work the schedule and handle the travel, I'd like to see him do it for as long as he can.

I fucking (Are we allowed to say fucking? Oh Well ....) Marked out last night when JR returned. I hope they keep JR and The King on Raw and send Cole to Smackdown. Even if it's only for a few months or something, King and JR need some quality time together, then Cole can come back and ruin it if he wishes.

Good call by WWE none the less.

I Marked the Fuck Out, I literally screamed like a girl lol. I said on Twitter if its Not Jericho or Punk its NOT a BlockBuster return but I took that back. Me being from Oklahoma is a BIG Fan of Good'Ol JR. I missed him and to me King is at his best when he's working with JR. Do I think hes back for good I HOPE so Id be happy if he just called PPV's but as long hes commonetary. For Cole I like him better on SD! ALWAYS have dont know why I hope he stays on SD! and just let King and JR on RAW but rumor has it WWE like the 3 man announce so Cole will probally stay on RAW.

Time for some more controversy.....

I gave up on WWE again after a horrible Raw last week and nothing else worth watching them for and read Raw results on WZ earlier. Sounded like just another terrible show in the WWE machine but Jim Ross returning seems a pretty big deal.

Thing is, I never thought he was anything special.

Hated him in the NWA, didn't care for his commentary in the early days of WCW and when he jumped over to WWE, I dunno......still strikes me as poor.

I guess he's seen as the best of all time by WWE fans because of the terrible quality that other announcers for the company over the years. Joey Styles is awesome but his style never did fit in WWE, Matt Striker was great and knowledgable but just like Mike Tenay's time in WCW, always seemed the odd man out as the guy with knowledge but not the personality to make it come through like a regular conversation.

Don't even get me started on Lawler, Cole, Matthews or even Grisham (although he did well with someone like Striker to counter him).

Only announcers WWE had that I ever liked were Heenan, Ventura, Taz and JBL. They got it right, selling the product to you as well as knowing what was going on in the ring and conveying it all to the viewer in a way that endeared themselves to those who know about wrestling after decades watching while also being a friendly voice to those new to the business who might not know much about it.

Sure, ok, to many here JR will be the voice of a generation who grew up with WWF Attitude and I admit, I much preferred the other products in competition with McMahon at the time (hence my fave play by play announcers of all time are a tie between Joey Styles and Tony Schiavone) but as I said before, even as a youngster flicking between WWF and NWA/WCW in the mid to late 80s and early 90s, I never liked JR as an announcer. He always came off like one of those guys who kisses ass and buries people he doesn't like to get himself ahead and the stories I heard about his time before joining the McMahon empire seem to back up that opinion.

Yes but as annoying as Cole is, if they ship him off to smackdown raw will be without a heel commentator, witch is some thing that will be sorely missed.

Yeah I'm pretty glad he came back. The announcing throughout the night was just sooo much better without Cole constantly undermining the talent to talk about whatever bullshit he could think of to get heat. I've never minded Cole too much but last night while he was there, it was fucking unbearable. He totally tried to cut Rey's win out from under him which really got under my skin, then he barely fucking talks about the matches from there. It just got really old.

But then we get JR back and everything is how it's supposed to be. We get commentators that call the fucking match. That's all I want from them and thus JR is an amazing breath of fresh air.

Actually on his twitter account he stated that last night marked the return of the three man announcers team on Raw so, I believe it will be all three which will make for some interesting and fun moments on Monday night.

I find it very exciting that JR is back, hopefully for a longtime coming! I don't pay attention to the commentary when he is not at the table bc it's usually a lot of bickering and gibberish. With JR back it means I can focus and one more thing a match is actually happening because JR is calling it!

I literally jumped out of my seat and started dancing around when his music hit... Havnt jumped n danced like that since cm punk got the 1 2 3 on cena and Daniel Bryan got the briefcase.. So wwe are doing very well of late having moments like that were I literally jumped at something happening. On to JR I hope they keep cole.. Cole JR n Jerry on raw n Cole Josh n Booker on smackdown.. I made a thread about this a while ago and this is exactly what I said I wanted.. There is nothing wrong with a 3 man commentary team it will be MUCH better

JR Compliments the action, unlike Cole who attempts to put the focus squarely on HIMSELF at times. Ironically I thought Cole did an excellent job during the Cena/Punk MITB match, but JR is far superior HHH has always been a JR backer, seems like he finally got the McMahons and Kevin Dunn to stop their descriminating against JR.

I came in late, but was ecstatic when I heard JR's voice. Like every announcer, he's got his quirks that can override his commentary, but his play-by-play work is on-point a majority of the time.

Cole is a good heel and a good play-by-play guy, but isn't good at both at the same time. His attention becomes too focused on being the heel, which means the play-by-play quality degrades terribly. :disappointed: On top of that, Lawler is getting weaker and weaker on the mic. Cole ends up dominating the conversation to a ridiculous degree at points, even for an annoying heel. JR can take some of the proverbial weight off of Cole's shoulders, give him a better focus, and (hopefully) inspire King to step it up.

Despite all of this, I'm not sure how long JR'll be around or even how long I'd want him around. In my head, the childhood nostalgia (read: :worship:) fights with the reality that WWE's gotta start focusing even more on present talent (I really enjoy Josh Matthews's work). I guess I'll just see where it goes and enjoy him while we've got him.

I was thrilled at JR returning. I don't see why Triple H would've made such a big deal out of it if he weren't back for good, here's hoping. I've really missed the old JR/King team and while I doubt they'll ever recapture what made them so special back in the day, I feel that Michael Cole clicks way more with Josh Mathews and even Bookah T on Smackdown!. Cole should probably miss a couple of weeks action anyway after he got crushed by Zack Ryder, but I reckon he'll be on Smackdown this week and that's where he'll stay. By the way, I loved Cole's entrance on Monday lol

I am happy that the King/JR team is back together and have a decent run and hopefully that gets King back on track because I have found his commentary very poor recently. I don't understand the legit hate for Cole though. He is MEANT to be annoying, to get himself solified as a heel personality, not just for commentating but for other roles such as GM Spokesman and perhaps other positions he might take up later on (like full time GM...) Since he turned heel, have you not noticed the enthusiasm and involvement in what is going on that he has? I think he should become SmackDown exclusive now though and let the Raw team do it's thing.

Im happy he returned but i would have much rather had it been someone we havent seen in a while, J.R. he is my favorite announcer, but i think he will be there full time but it wont be for long, considering his multiple injuries throughout his life

michael cole is better than jr why have him return hes really bad at commentating atm michael cole should just stay on raw but unfortunately hes going to be on smackdown

I like Michael Cole but iv had enough of him. I like his childish little squabbles with Booker T on Smackdown but apart from that he just pecks head. I completely marked out when Jim Ross came out and it seems he is back for good. I have been a fan of J.R's from the the first time i heard his voice whilst watching wrestling many many years ago and i still am a huge fan of his. He is the voice of the WWE not Michael Cole. Since J.R stopped commentating i hoped that one day he would come back either full or part time. I wouldn't have been bothered. I really am glad to see him back. First week "in charge" and Trip's is already doing a fantastic job.

Just a quick question.. What year is this?

Sure, I was annoyed by Cole like most people this year. However, you don't dig up fossils just because the animals of today aren't as cool. You either work to change people's perception or you pick another animal to showcase. JR just sounds really dated and out of touch with just about everything he called.

It was good to hear J.R. back on commentary, but just like everyone else here I question just how long he's going to be there. I don't mind Cole, I just think one show a week would do him much better.

Fossil? Really? He's not even 60 years old yet.

This is a great move. People wanted JR, now he's back. Michael Cole is an awful play-by-play man. In fact, he's so awful, he had to be turned heel. That's right. A play-by-play guy was catching so much heat, he had to be turned heel. That's pathetic.

The dynamic should be great. Cole and King were boring the shit out of me, and it wasn't much better with Josh Matthews. JR adds a solid straight man to the team, and will also have solid banter with Cole. Remember, they're here to entertain us. I don't give a shit how old someone is, as long as he/she can do his/her job. Jim Ross was a bit rusty on Monday, but that's to be expected. Once he settles back in, it will be much better than what was happening a month ago, guaranteed.

Look a commentators job during a match is usually not to put the attention on himself, or try and make the viewer laugh, but it's not all Coles fault, it's McMahon and Dunn on him to present himself in a certain manner. But when your attention as a fan is not on the match, you are wasting TV time IMO
