James Greiga Style Wrestling Trivia!

Blade

"Original Blade"
In light of Mr. Greiga's eye opening thread on who brought the term "Pipebomb" to the WWE, I thought we should learn some more fun "facts" about the WWE.

For example, did you know that John Cena's first World Title reign didn't come in 2005 at Wrestlamnia, but actually happened in 1983? Have a look:

See, it even has the WWE logo, so you know it's legit.

Did you also know that Bray Wyatt has an identical twin in called Husky Harris? He wrestled in WWE back in 2010, but then mysteriously disappeared in 2011, at the same time when Bray Wyatt was hired, strangely enough.

Weird, huh? Do you have an James Greiga style trivia!?

The hand Mae Young gave birth to was not in fact sired by Mark Henry. In his infamous "retirement speech" during 2013, the hand was not mentioned alongside the rest of his family. WWE-officials are currently investigating the Big Show, due to the size of the hand.

The term "Irish Whip" was coined by Fit Finlay and had nothing to do with catapulting one's opponent into the ropes. Originally the Irish Whip was called the Chinaman's Handshake, and it was banned in the US until 1972 when President Richard Nixon went to China and showed that the move couldn't really be performed unless both men were in on it.

President Nixon laughed as Chairman Mao feebly attempted to whip him into a turnbuckle.

Also, that episode of The Morton Downey Jr. Show that featured Jim Wilson, David Schultz, Lou Albano, Thunderbolt Patterson, and a phone call from Paul Heyman was a work.

That's an admission right there.

Finally, contrary to popular belief, Jack Tunney really was the President of the World Wrestling Federation and everything that occurred in the WWF during his regime was a shoot. Vince McMahon had Tunney assassinated and installed Gorilla Monsoon as a figurehead.

The original name for Summerslam was supposed to be Summerfest and WWE had planned on bringing this name back in 2009 as a big surprise reveal, before Jeremy Piven spoiled the surprise by calling it Summerfest while guest hosting Raw.

Gorilla Monsoon was, in fact, not a gorilla. Vince Sr. loves monkeys(a trait later shared by his son VKM), so he decided to make a gorilla the first ever primate World Heavyweight Champion. Toots Mondt loved the idea & quickly started making promotional material to hype the upcoming debut match. Upon hearing that a gorilla was being housed & trained for the purpose of fighting, the ASPCA stepped in & took the primate to a safe location. Vince Sr. refused to lose money. He had already trademarked the name 'Gorilla Monsoon', so he gave the moniker to Robert Marella- a large hairy wrestler who was new to the promotion.

The rest is history.

WWE did not lose the lawsuit against the World Wildlife Fund. Instead the two companies actually merged into one.

There has been two reported Yappapai Indian strap matches in wrestling history. That's why Jimmy Hart was calling for it causing the second recorded match between Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan.

The first recorded match took place between Maurice 'Mad Dog' Vachon and Giant Baba in Seoul. The idea of the match was originally to strap your opponent to the corner turnbuckle and then direct an elephant to squash him. You can understand why WCW had to change the rules a little. The local zoo wouldn't let them use any elephants.

For the record, the original match ended when an elephant squashed the leg of Vachon. This caused uproar with the crowd as they were guaranteed the death of somebody that day. Instead of taking it out on the wrestlers, they destroyed the animal and created a new local delicacy of garnished elephant ear. It also explains why Mad Dog had a false leg. A perfect piece of revisionist history if ever I've written one.

*That was Jimmy Hart's favorite match. He's a closet elephant enthusiast.

Despite the popular belief, Wrestlemania does not actually showcase "wrestling". The company has long since stopped showcasing wrestling and even dropped it from it's company name. Instead opting for "sports entertainment" and "performing in matches". Making "Wrestlemania" a falsely advertised show.

Randy Savage didn't have sex with a teenaged Stephanie McMahon. He had sex with a teenaged Linda McMahon. Randy Savage is still alive, can time travel, and those heads and bird man engravings on Easter Island were made in tribute to him 800 years ago.
