Is this view of MMA correct?

I'd have to say it is. Penny Arcade isn't a very funny comic, but I'd say that's a good view. No matter what alternating styles or colourful gimmicks, mixed martial always boils down the same thing. Two sweaty men grappling each other for minites on end. If you're lucky you get a knockout or submission.

If not, you get one of the dullest sports on earth.

I think the issue is the mat game, when two guys are locked in a submission then the crowd goes abit dead, how the hell can you cheer for someone who is basically lying on the floor with another guy who is basically waiting for the next move or for the ref to break it up, unlike wrestlign its not predetarmind and doesnt have spots, so there is nothing to get the crowds adrenaline pumping, but when the kicks punches and knockout blows come in things become alot more interesting.

Thats just my POV on the matter

The problem with that logic is that I can post right now 20 fights that never go to the ground, until someone is just knocked clean out.

There are all types of different fights in MMA. There are boxing matches, Muay Thai matches, Karate matches (ala Lyoto Machida), grappling matches, jiu-jitsu matches, and sometimes... all of them come into play in one single fight. It's great, and not as simple as that comic puts it across as.
