Is SmackDown! too good?

SmackDown to mean the weekly shows, not the brand as a whole. But yeah, is the show too good now?

Glorious as it was to have Mysterio/Hardy, Jericho/Hardy, Edge/Punk (twice!) and Dolph Ziggler's truly novel chair swinging technique on "free TV", I can't help but be concerned. If SmackDown keeps on putting shows of this quality out weekly, it's going to run out of options fast and burn out. Maybe.

What d'yall reckon?

Actually, it can only get better. I've said this from the start and I'll say it again, it seems that the creative team of Smackdown has been changed, what we see now is fresh, different and appealing, it doesn't seem like the old Smackdown from before the draft, they must have changed the writers and given them more freedom, I like it. Either that or Vicky's absence just makes it all seem glorious in comparison to when she annoyed the hell out of me each and every show.

It has so many possibilities I can't see it getting stale. Take Jericho. After Mysterio he could easily slip into a feud with Morrison, Punk or Hardy as the seeds have been laid for that. Edge has two programmes going at once with Punk and Hardy but as he settles down with Hardy it leaves Punk for later whilst he feuds with Umaga. On top of them there is still the Undertaker who can have two massive feuds with Umaga and Jericho that will get him through the year.

The only problem I see at the moment are there are so many feuds available to the writers they hotshot them all to get them done. If each feud is given enough care and attention, Smackdown could pave the way for the future of the company.

It is already more entertaining than RAW in my opinion. Long may it continue.

The signs are good. The most heartening thing I saw this week was Ziggler against Khali. A year ago it would have been a 30 second squash and Ziggler would get buried. Instead Ziggler actually does the logical thing and batters Khali with the chair, losing the match but improving his standing considerably. As is always the case, when HHH is out of the way, things improve.

Smackdown these last two weeks has undisputedly been the best show on WWE TV. Personal feuds are being built at both main event and upper-mid card levels. This is what makes me want to watch the show. At the moment we have Edge/Hardy, Punk/Umaga, Jericho/Mysterio and Morrison/Benjamin. There's still R-Truth, Dolph Ziggler, Great Khali etc. who can be thrown into that mix - not to mention the Undertaker, who can feud with nearly everyone I've just mentioned.

SD won't burn out, because more fuel will be continuously added to the flames that are the hype of the show. More personal feuds, innovative storylines, and, of course, quality wrestling, means that SD is going to be THE show to watch over summer and beyond.

It's not too good, but it's better than anything else on TV at the moment.

I like whay they are doing. And imo it feels like SD! is the true Can't miss show, not Raw.

But Sam i do agree with you, if they keep on giving us great shows like they have been doing lately, then it could get them to run out of options fast. I think it is okay to have PPV quality matches on SD!, but only every once in a while. On the MSG episode they had 2 matches that people would consider to be PPV caliber, but I think in that it was ok for them to do it because they were in MSG.

But then the next week we have Jericho vs Hardy, another match that could have been considered PPV caliber. They have to be extra careful on what matches they have and they have to make sure to still give quality shows without giving away to much.

Smackdown is better than RAW right now but I think they need to slow down a bit. You have already had Punk/Edge twice and if they meet at a pay-per view it's not going to have that same luster. I do think they have a lot of solid main-eventers so it won't seem repetitive unlike RAW but if you keep having matches of this magnitude on Smackdown, there will be little anticipation for the pay-per views. It looks like Smackdown is back to the being the way it was in 2003 when you had Guerrero, Angle, Cena, Taker, Lesnar, and Hogan/Mr. America.

I don't watch Smackdown anymore I only watch Raw. I used to think it was because its on a Friday but even if I tape it I won't watch it. Then I realized its because of spoilers I don't watch Smackdown. I don't watch ECW when I see the results early. I don't watch superstars anymore for the same reason. I can't watch TNA anymore either guess why. But Raw has no spoilers. I could very easily just stop reading them. But then the pesky being on a Friday thin gest in the way again and I just don't care about Smackdown. Raw doesn't suck. Raw FTW!

Considering how easy it is to avoid spoilers - I do it every week, despite being a moderator on a wrestling forum - this is a very trivial reason to avoid SmackDown!. It's also questionable whether this is relevant to the thread, considering I said nothing about comparisons, just about how quickly SmackDown! is using up its big match options on free TV.

the way i see it is that raw has most characters with the biggest ego: hbk, hhh, orton, cena and batista.this is like a timebomb waiting to blow up...i am definately sure that down the road, these guys will all implode and we'll be exposed to a storyline involving all of them wich will be really bad...i can actually see cena and hbk having separate storylines but still, the way that the legacy/mcmahon, batista and trips storyline is going, it will get worse.

smackdown in the other hand, is, imo, the best brand at the moment coz the ME scene might me quite crowded as well('taker, edge, jericho, hardy, mysterio, punk) but they already began 2 storylines which are building up pretty well imo so yeah, smackdown is and will be even better than raw by the end of this year
