Is JTG the next Eddie Guerrero?

Throwing a tantrum
A shocker in my view happened at Extreme Rules. JTG just won the Strap Match in his match against a much bigger opponent in Shad. He did it the same way that Eddie Guerrero did in the same way against JBL in their strap match, including whispering to the crowd to be quiet.

JTG does have little to offer in terms of size, especially compared to Shad. Could his new gimmick be the fun loving face who like Cryme Tyme has done in the past, pulled some heel tactics to the delight of the crowd?

He has a similar personality to Eddie Guerrero, both are getting over on being naughty good guys, both have fun gimmicks, so why not?

You are going to get a lot of flack from people who don't really understand what you're asking. Not me specifically but I'm just warning you. Anywho...

I like JTG. I've always hoped he would break out if and when Cryme Tyme broke up. He's innovative and could go far. I like that he's using the thief gimmick in his matches now. He may not ever go as far as Eddie could but I'm willing to wait a while before making a judgment on him. He's at least a thousand times more entertaining than the Scottish guy whose name I can't remember, but that's not saying much. Hopefully he gets a midcard title run and not a Superstars run.

I was actually JUST thinking about this the other day once I found out that they split up Cryme Tyme.

Yeah, Shad is going to go on and be a big powerhouse that no one will care about, but where does that leave JTG? I think they should continue the Cryme Tyme with JTG and make him Eddie Guerrero-like. I was always a fan of Cryme Tyme being together, but if you think about it JTG was the more charismatic one and did most of the wrestling for the team (granted, he would get beat down the entire match, then have Shad come in and throw a boot and a couple clotheslines and be done, but still)

But I think that JTG could do very well in a singles run and be more entertaining...a lot more promising than Shad I think.

To be perfectly honest and answer your question. NO WAY IN HELL. I see the comparisons you're making with the strap match and the Thief gimmick, but JTG has no chance. Cryme Tyme was an entertaining tag team that was over enough. They never got the chance to really explode. I think they were at they're best when they were teaming with Cena on Raw awhile back. In fact I thought they were actually making Cena cooler too. But of course WWE took a great oppurtunity and botched it. Anyways, they were one of the legit tag teams, and Creative never gave them the belts and decided to break them up. Both will go on to be...Marty Jannettys and released in the near future. I was surprised they got on a PPV. Without having seen the match I can't say much, but I don't see a future for either of them, let alone JTG playing up the tricky face gimmick.

I've been behind JTG since this horribly thrown together (and abruptly started) feud with Shad started. JTG was more entertaining and charismatic in 5 mins tonight then Shad has been since I've seen the guy. I really hope that they give JTG the push he deserves and don't just bury him behind the bigger, clumsier partner.

Shad's another boring big man, who couldn't draw a crowd reaction if he had six topless women, The Rock and Hulk Hogan come to the ring with him. I think the whole reason behind the Cryme Tyme split was Vince going..."oh no...Zeke's hurt. We need another scary black guy doing a bad impression of Randy Orton and Chris Jericho."

Charisma wise, JTG has it to pull off a gimmick similar to Eddie's, not completely, but in some way, but the one thing that JTG doesn't have is technical wrestling ability. JTG does some high flying moves, but it's ground work that in the end may make JTG seem more like Eddie. I personally would love to see JTG start using more mat based moves. I think he also needs a definitive finisher as well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. NO NO NO NO NO. Eddie was 1 of a kind. When he was HEEL people cheered him and loved him. When he was a tweener people LOVED him, when he was a face people LOVED him. Eddie could get a crowd reaction by simulating a FART in the ring. That's how great and entertaining he was. All this "who will be the next Eddie Guerrero" talk needs to stop. Eddie was Eddie because being Eddie came naturally. If JTG gets his stuff totally together perhaps he can be a mere resemblance of Eddie, but to say or even ponder him being the next Eddie is an insult to everything Eddie accomplished. They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. That may be true in some cases but in my honest opinion, the best JTG can hope for is to be considered an Eddie ripoff. I just can't see JTG reaching that major star level that Eddie had.
Now don't take above what I said the wrong way. JTG isn't BAD by any stretch, but he's not EDDIE good.

What do I mean by "Eddie good"?

Eddie could hang with the cruiser-weights, the heavyweights, the super-heavyweights and everywhere in between. He had the ability to CARRY a match if need be. Eddie could do air based moves, ground based moves. He could hold a technical match, a submission match. You name it Eddie could do it. I've seen JTG come off the top rope on occasion, but it's not his strong point. JTG has decent charisma (more so than others that have been pushed before) but in all honesty he just doesn't have that "it" factor. Time will tell what he can do but to ask if JTG is the next Eddie Guerrero I'd again say HELL NO.

Haha, thats a great thought. We should all know one of them is going to raw in the draft (most likely shad). Maybe they could push JTG on smackdown like they did morrison last year when morrison got drafted. Shad, he'll just be another big guy.

I think JTG is the next Booker T! He is obviously the more talented of the duo and has an innovative moveset.

Next Eddie... no. And John Morrison is not the next HBK. As many of the posters have pointed out, EG was one of a kind. Now, given the right circumstances, JTG may have a nice little run as an "Eddie like" character, who despite being a face commits heal-ish tactics during his match. But he won't be the next EG. The reason a conversation like this is even brought up is because the former was so great, his departure left a hole in the sports entertainment business. And, we as fans, tarnish their memories by wanting to replace them.

There will never be another EG, HBK, 'Taker (when he retires), etc. etc. etc.

BUT!! Yes, JTG will probably be the member of Cryme Tyme we care about... And there you have it.

As for him being Eddie, no. But I think what this thread is about is JTG's gimmick being compared to Eddie's. The whole ''i'm a good guy and people love me but imma be sneaky and cheat'' mindset. Eddie did it, Flair did it, and Jericho did for a while. As for GeeQu saying he's the next Booker.....god no. Just..no. Booker is a fucking moron, JTG is pretty funny and intelligent...enough to be funny

by the way, Gorilla, great sig, RIP Carlin

I hope JTG gets an honest shot, but honestly, I expect him to be among the Fall "future endeavors" crew that'll be shipped out into the world. I love the "thief" gimmick, it's absolutely hilarious, but it's a midcard gimmick and between being stuck in a midcard gimmick and being a little on the smaller side, JTG is not Vince McMahon material, and right now that's all the seems to be important in WWE.

Shad will stick around another six months and be "future endeavored" too for just not being charismatic enough. And why isn't he charismatic enough? Because you just stuffed him into "big-man gimmick" number 376. Sad. Fun tag team that had a good run.

I just got back from the PPV and I must say it was definetly a GREAT pay per view and well worth the $$$...I figured this match would be booed out the building, but shockingly it wasnt and it in fact wasnt all that bad

I dont think that jtg will be like eddie, I mean he was out of acton for a while and out of nowhere he gets into a fued with shad, i think they just wanted to mix things up with his match and im sure they dont have any big plans for him

first of all eddie lost his strap match so that wasnt the same. i do think jtg has good talent and its a possibility that he has a good long career ahead of him but i think its way to early to tell if he will reach that kind of success. i have not seen enough of him in singles action to dicide if i think he could ever end up a contender but from what ive seen hes not near at the talent level eddie was.

A lot of you aren't getting his point.

You're acting like he's saying JTG IS the next Guererro.

He's comparing the GIMMICKS, and why he feels they are similar.

I see your points and agree with a lot of them. I always enjoyed the Baby Faces that bent the rules a little bit to please the crowd. Good find.

Eddie Guerrero was one of a kind and we'll never see someone like him again, but JTG was funny last night. He should continue those antics and if he can find himself in the ring and be a little more technical, then more power to him. JTG may not amount to much, but if he can break through, he could get some titles and have an Eddie like career, but by no means will he be the NEXT Eddie Guerrero.

i can see JTG becoming something, but Shad is out of luck..... cant cheer for somebody when you cant pronounce their name..... Gadbark? Gassplug? gausebook??? Gasfart?

I don't think JTG could ever be compared to Eddie Guerrero.

While there was perhaps something that could be compared yes I'll give that much, I don't think that JTG would be able to entertain like Eddie Guerrero could, or make the crowd to care for him enough.
Eddie had a special ability to make people love him no matter what he was doing, I don't see JTG being beloved in case he ever turned into a heel, as opposed to what Eddie kinda was with the whole Latino Heat, to say the least he kept the crowd entertained and in truth I have my doubts that even as a heel the crowd would still care about Eddie, as opposed to what I have my doubts about JTG.

JTG is gonna be loved that's for sure, and he has some great ring abilities, but he's no Eddie.
