Is it Luongo's Time?

Mr. TM

Throwing a tantrum
In 2002, we saw something that many will never forget. Canada looked to do well in those Olympics, behind Curtis Joseph. He would get the first game against the Swedes, a game where he would allow 5 goals against. Canada had no show with that type of play, so the next game, they put in the Montreal born Martin Brodeur. And as many of you know, Brodeur stood on his head for the rest of the tournament.

Fast forward to 2010. Luongo sits on the bench to see Canada need overtime to beat the Swiss, and then lose to the Americans. Something needed to be done for Canada. And as a facebook group grew to 100,000 people, demanding Luongo get a shot in net, Yzerman and Babcock agree. Luongo then goes on to be an excellent goalie, winning gold for Canada.

Well Brodeur is considered one of the best Goalies of this now past Millenium. He broke the wins record, the shutout record, and the most wins by a goalie in a season. But now at 37, his time is coming to an end. Is Luongo next? Will Loungo, dedicated to the Vancouver Canucks until he is 40, a dozen years from now become the next great goalie?

I agree Brodeur is getting old in age, but he's still a premier goaltender in the NHL. As for Luongo, he has really helped out his stock as a top goaltender. He took over Brodeur in the Olympics and did a great job for Canada. One thing is stopping him right now and that is a long playoff run. He has to show that he is capable of taking his team to the Stanley Cup and if/when he does that than it will be his time. We all know what happened against Chicago in the elimination game, but with the experience of the Olympics with Luongo I think it will help him over the hump in the playoffs. The time is now and it's there for the taking and if Luongo wants it he'll take it and do a damn good job of it.
