iPhone 5 specs released...consider me underwhelmed.

But, but but...doesn't Apple make it a point to tell everyone as loudly as they can that they invent EVERYTHING? That only they are capable of innovation? Impossible.

Who's getting sued? There's no injunction that says you can't use 4G LTE

Done a google search lately? Both HTC and Samsung have filed suit against Apple for infringing on their 4G technology patents.

The reason there are no injunctions yet is because the lawsuits haven't gotten to that phase yet. Timing.

Now that she's gone, don't go back. It's never worth it.

Well my mother, bless her heart, is still paying for my cell phone, despite me asking her numerous times if I can start paying it. Plus, to keep my unlimited data plan and phone upgrade, I need to stay with AT&T. Plus they have pretty good coverage in my area.
Don't count on that. They're getting sued. HTC hold numerous patents on the technology.
As does Samsung apparently.

Apple will be, just as soon as the Samsung lawyers can draft the complaint.

Yes, and that's such a rarity in the business world, for one business to tell you they are better than their competitors.

They already filed suit? Are you sure? Because that would have been in record time.

I see. Still they're allowed to use 4G LTE as long as there is no injunction. I find this Samsung and Apple shit petty. They should be working together. Not fighting over petty shit saying MINE MINE MINE! PAY ME NAO!

You think Apple and Google are bad, learn about the pharmaceutical industry.

Record timing or not, a simple search on google reveals it to be true. In fact, it's highly likely that both HTC and Samsung had the paperwork ready to go as soon as the iPhone specs were made public. They both prepared ahead of time, knowing that Apple would necessarily have to infringe on their patented technologies to bring 4G LTE to the iPhone.

Link? All I can find is that Samsung is preparing a lawsuit.

Understand I'm not contesting your statement, I'm just looking for the validation. I honestly don't care if either one sues the other, it's just a game in which only their lawyers win.

No, I mean go through an indirect dealer when purchasing a new handset. Stay away from the corporate store. You can stick with AT&T, but the perks you find at an indirect dealer (Best Buy, Target, Radioshack) are far superior. Free contact/picture/video transfer, instant rebates, etc.

My upgrade was in June. I have been looking, but wanted to wait for the 5 to come out. And the family data plan so it can all be done at once.

I have never had a smartphone, but I think its time for one. I had set my mind on Apple. But, only because I have seen them around and know what they can do. I can get really anything. I have a couple hundred bucks to spend on a new phone. I think I deserve it.

Should I go with the $99 4S? Or the $199 for the 5? Or just get a Samsung, HTC, etc?

I have the Verizon Droid Razor Maxx. I used my mom's upgrade 3 months ago but my upgrade is due in November. Considering the iPhone 5. May just stick with my phone though I don't like paying for music.

And they have the ability to look up your contract information from AT&T?

Yes, indirect dealers have the ability to look up the same information. Your phone holds your contacts anyhow, so they just do a phone-to-phone transfer. Looking up your contact information isn't necessary, it's all stored on your phone (or sim card, your choice).

He said contract information. I thought he was asking if a handset bought from Target would be compatable with his current AT&T contract/data plan.

Did they say something about the iphone 5 not being able to put your own music onto the phone? I never brought one song off of itunes when I had my iphone. Just put all the music off my old phone straight onto it.

They should. My brother bought his phone from Best Buy, I bought mine from AT&T, and they all are on the same contract.

All you're doing is buying a new handset, not a new plan. The plan should stay the same. Obviously make sure of this before purchasing, but I'm 99% sure this is the case.

I meant new music. Android has free music apps where with iPhone you have to use iTunes.

Oh... oops.

The answer is still yes. Indirect dealers have access to all contract information because they're still selling the plans for AT&T (Verizon, Sprint, etc).

Exactly right. Indirect dealers own the handsets, but have to attach those handsets to something. That's why Target and Best Buy offer all of the major carriers. The handsets would be useless if they weren't in business with the carriers.

And no, his plan shouldn't change. If they say you're going to lose your unlimited data package, call AT&T customer care and make sure that person is right. It's possible you'll lose such a package, but not likely.
