I was watching Unforgiven '99 last night, and it featured a match that I have never seen before. It was a kennel from hell match. It was a cage, inside of a cell, with dogs as lumberjacks. You had to escape both to win. The match itself sucked, but I think the concept could work if used correctly and tweeked.
The reasons it failed:
1) The match started with Al Snow in the cage aleady, but Bossman was just barely in the cell. If he would have just turned around and walked out, he would have won.
2) Al Snow was holding the cage door preventing Bossman from getting into the cage. Thus leaving Bossman on the outside, free to walk out instead of fight. Also, this was supposed to be Al's revenge match, yet he was trying to keep Bossman out.
3) The dogs hadn't yet arrived when the match started. Therefore once again allowing for an easy escape by Bossman.
4) The dogs were on leashes guided by trainers. Therefore, the danger element is gone.
5) The dogs kept breaking kayfabe.
The match could succeed if there were people lumberjacks instead of dogs. Or even no lumber jacks, but perhaps traps. Also, the cell door should have a chain that would require the use of bolt cutters, to allow the 2nd escapee to catch up, thus creating a fight between two cages. A couple of examples would be.
- Shield in a triple threat for the U.S. Title with the Wyatts as lumberjacks. Bray would sit in his rocking chair, watching the carnage, while Harper and Rowan pace outside. This would allow, Reigns to look strong powering through the Wyatts, or allow for Rollins or Ambrose to sneak away during a brawl. It could also be an easy way for a turn. Imagine Harper, Rowan, Rollins and Reigns all being down. Nothing but Bray staning between Ambrose and the door. After a staredown, they smile and Bray steps aside.
- Any two opponents, I'll use Cena and Orton as an example(since everyone loves their matches lol), start in the ring, but on the outside of the cage have patches of barbed wire, mouse traps, maybe some grease on the cage, etc. Cena could escape after and AA, but then find himself between some barbed wire and some sort of obstruction. So Cena would have to climb back in. Or there could be a point where Orton gets out and is faced with a patch of mouse traps. He decides to be smart and tries to scale the fence, but then slips because it's greased and lands in the mouse traps. I think he could sell that pretty well. Just random things like that.
The match is pretty ridiculous, but I like to see something ridiculous and different from time to time.
