Intercontinental championship match at Mania????

The Idiot

Getting Noticed By Management
Are there any plans to use Kofi at Wrestlemania and put the IC title on the line....or are their plans to continue and bury the historic and once prestigious Intercontinental title like it's meaningless piece of garbage??

I don't get it anymore. You know what's funny....is I actually had to go on the wwe website and find out who the current IC champ was to make this thread.

The Intercontinetal title needs to be on the card!

Kofi Kingston vs. Christain vs. Wade Barret!
A Triple Threat match for the title.

Get the title off of Kofi, Christain will become victorious.
Have him feud with Wade barret, swagger, masters, reks, clay, rhodes on smackdown!

I'd like to see the IC title defended at WrestleMania but it probably won't happen unfortunately. Over the course of the past 10 years, the IC title has been defended at WM twice. The most recent was Rey Mysterio's 20 second win over JBL at WM 25 and the other two happened at WM 17 & WM 18 respectively in forgettable 6 to 7 minute matches involving William Regal.

As I said in another thread, I don't read spoilers for taped shows and spoilers can't be posted here. However, there are articles all over sites around the net that, even without reading the articles themselves, lets you know that something interesting happens in the IC title picture on SmackDown! that MIGHT, just might, lead to a significant IC title match at Mania this year.

if the us title is on the line at WM, then the IC title has to be on the line as well, plus, lets face it, thats a good legit belt ad it would be a shame if the IC title was forgotten about as the womens title or the cruiserweight title has been.

Just because the IC Title isn't defended on the biggest show of the year doesn't mean it's become garbage as it has proved that in past years. The Title is still presigious as it's a "wrestlers" title where we see competitive matches for it in the great SD! midcard instead of it being a prop for a gimmick. Also, if you don't know who The Champion is than you should just pay attention to SD! more.

Anyway back on topic, I'm pretty sure Kofi might get involved with The Corre storyline, which I wouldn't have a problem with, since it could lead to a Barrett-Kingston Title fued.

Savage/Steamboat, Hart/Piper, Michaels/Ramon, RVD/Regal....classic matches that involved the Intercontinental title.....back when the title was worth a shit. You couldn't have a Wrestlemania, or even promote a Wrestlemania without mentioning the IC title match....because it was huge. It was a major selling point. Now, just like you said....that's exactly what it is: a prop. To help get the younger talent over. A shiny belt looks good around the waist, but the matches don't have any meaning....and without meaning....the title because a meaningless piece of shit.

I'm not sure I follow you saying that the title was worth shit because you seem to bring back good memories of the past and are saying it is worth shit. But I think you're overreacting a little. Just because a match like Kofi Kingston and Chrisitan isn't a classic now who knows what it CAN be in the future. You are evealuating a match based on your perspective looking back which is unfair. The match that could be put on at this Wrestlemania could be of high quality and very entertaining. I don't know why you would rule out WWE putting on a good show for the belt. I think Kofi is a great Midcard champion. Will he ever be a Bret Hart? Probaly not but it is possible. If there is an IC match I think it will be good.

Since there have onlly been three IC title matches at Mania I don't see how this point is very valid. We haven't had the need to mention the IC title belt at Mania because the IC champions have done other types of matches at Mania recently. Last year McIntyre was in MITB we need not have a seperate match just for a belt. This year there is no MITB so most likely we will get a match for the belt.

I don' think one match would ever make an entire card. Your right the IC title belt is to help get young talent over and that is what it is doing. Kofi Kingston getting a match at Mania is a very good thing and it helps himg et over. In this scenario it is doing exactly what you said it should be doing.

A shiny belt looks good around the waist, but the matches don't have any meaning....and without meaning....the title because a meaningless piece of shit.

The matches may not have meaning now, but 30 years from now will be discussing how someone like Kofi Kingston and for argument sake Wade Barett made history in a IC title match. Possibly we can't be narrow viewed when assessing history. I do believe we will get an IC match at Mania and it will be worth someting. Each title defense is worth something, you can't just say belts are shit because they do have a purpose.

I think its pretty poor that a title with the history and prestige of the Intercontinental belt has hardly been defended at Wrestlemania over the past decade.

I understand that the IC title holder has been involved in the MITB matches, but I really don't see why they have to be added to that match, unless they were going to win the briefcase. Surely someone else on the roster has enough name value to be the extra addition to the match, it won't make any difference if they aren't going to win anyway.

Having another title match at WM is always a good thing, and a strong Intercontinental title is always a good thing for WWE. It makes the guy holding the belt look better if the title is treated with respect and given a decent feud leading in to WM. So many former greats have had excellent IC title reigns and holding the belt in the past always gave the champion great credibility and made you think that he was a guy who could be a future world champion or at least a threat to the main title.

Now it doesn't have that level of impact and its a shame that the belt has been ignored over recent years. I really hope we see a renewed interest in the IC title in the near future, I love the belt design, I remember it as an important title and I think most fans would like to see more focus placed on the title, beginning with a title match at WM.

I think they should do a 6 man tag featuring The Corre (Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, & Heath Slater) vs Kofi Kingston, The Big Show, & Kane with both the WWE Tag Team and WWE I-C Titles on the line in a winner takes all match.
