In DX's Heyday: Who was the better leader

From 1997 to early 1999, DX was the most popular faction in wrestling. Now as you all know Shawn Michaels was the leader of DX from it's inception to Wrestlemania 14, and as we all know he had to retire from a career ending back injury. From there Triple H ejected Michaels from the group and he became the leader of DX and recruited new members X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws and became extremely popular.

Now what I wanna know is who do yall think was the better leader of D Generation-X?

Triple H did more with DX than HBK, but like the NWO, when DX first started it was at it's best. It got really old by the time the McMahon Helmsley Era happened, then was awesome again when HBK came back full time andthey gave Vince a run for his money.

Have to go with HBK, for two reasons. 1# it was HBK and HHH, together wahoo, where as when Helmsley ran it, it was just HHH and no HBK :(. But not really the question, when it was HBK, for the most part they were hated, what they did pushed the envelope, they were out of control, they were getting fined and being told they would get taken off the air, when Trips took it over they were faces, so while it was out there it wasn't cutting edge!!!!!! Plus as much as XPAC and the NAOL were awesome they weren't HBK and that is the bottom line. No SCSA reference intended :)

I liked DX better with HHH as leader. Don't get me wrong i liked Shawn Micheals but i though that with him as leader it was more sophmoric humor. Once HHH took over and added X-Pac and The New Age Outlaws, DX was more serious and became a force similar to WCW's Original NWO

I will say sumthin when Shawn Michaels was leader of dx it was definately more about shawn michaels then it was about dx. Cuz if u remember the first 2 or 3 months they were together they were using shawn's entrance music and it seemed like every dx promo they had it was always garnered more for shawn and triple h and chyna was jus there to protect him and his title at the time.

HBK's DX storyline was about Shawn holding the belt, but in reality it was turning Hunter into a future main eventer. HBK's DX was the MAIN EVENT. It's leader held the world title and was involved w/ a Tyson/Austin fued. When Shawn left, Hunter was now a made man.

Did Hunter's DX do the same thing for Road Dogg? X-pac? Gunn? Hunter, as leader, held the Euro belt and maybe the IC. The group disbanded a year later, w/ the members fighting each other. Hunter's DX was about making Hunter a world champ. That didn't happen until AFTER he left DX.

Hunter's DX was more of a household name bc of the surge in popularity.

HBK's DX was one of the two major factors that created that popularity to begin with (the other being Austin).

Like Jim Ross said, HBK's DX was the perfect stable. Main events. World titles. Young stars being made into main eventers. nWo never did do that last part too well

i have to say i have to be one of the biggest shawn michaels fan to walk this earth and anyone who knows wrestling would have to say that the best dx leader would have to be triple h cause yes the old dx was based around shawn thats it and him having the belt cause back then there was nobody else that was big yet except undertaker brett hart and shawn michaels thats it wcw had blown up and blew wwe out of the water so what dx did was funny stuff but it only had hbk hhh and chynna but the other dx the one after shawn quit had more ppl in it and it was a actual group and they paved the way for alot of stuff but i think it was better than shawn had to retire and come back because we see the stuff he did then and the stuff he did now b4 he had to retire and he never skipped a beat and alot of ppl seen shawn by himself and what he done alot of ppl just remember shawn as a member in dx but he was a outstanding wrestler solo but the second dx made alot of ppl billy gunn or road dogg wouldnt of been big if it wasnt for dx...x pac on the other hand was a huge wrestler in the 90s as 123 kid and he went to wcw as syxx and was a pushover and came back and we seen the funny/wild side of him and every1 forgot about 123 kid and fell in love with xpac the first dx was good dont get me wrong but the second dx was where it was at

I think Shawn did more for his members than Triple H did. Triple H's DX I think was more for the title than Shawn's because HHH still had some quality feuds while in HBK's DX. X-Pac and Road Dogg feuded with each other half the time besides when Kane was in the picture and for the most part it was all tag team rivalries and no singles acclaim for X-Pac or the NAO. Shawn is my favorite leader, no doubt about it.

I've always been of the opinion that during their original go round, DX didn't really have a leader. They didn't need one, Triple H and HBK were a team. Of course, HBK was the main eventer of the group, but I always thought they were it wasn't until HBK left due to injury and Triple H brought in the Outlaws and X-Pac, and then he was forced to be the leader, mainly because those guys weren't of the same caliber Triple H was.

Just like HBK once said, "I was DX, before DX was cool." When Shawn was running it everything they did was cutting edge. They pushed the envelope every Monday night...and when they were told they would be taken off the air, the made fun of it with the classic DX State of the Union address.

Yeah...of course it was more about Shawn, but what major stable isn't about the leader? The 4-Horseman was mainly about Flair. NWO was mainly about Hogan. The Hart Foundation in 1997 was about Bret Hart.

I never cared for the Helmsely lead DX...although they were wildly popular with the fans. Once Shawn left it was never the same...and of course, when he came back it still wasn't the same. Nothing beats the original DX.
