I did a Nightwish thread earlier this year and it got a number of responses, so I know there are at least a few other fans of the band on this forum. They released their 7th album, Imaginaerum, on the 30th of November. It is set to be released in the states this January. Thanks to the power of the internet, the songs have made it out worldwide even though the album has not been released everywhere yet.

The first single is called "Storytime". Here's a video. Check it out. If you're not a Nightwish fan yet, have a look. I'd be happy to recommend more material to you if you're interested. They became my favorite band this year and I currently own their entire discography.

What are your thoughts on the new single? Like or dislike, and why?

Will you be purchasing the new album? Why or why not?

I can't wait for Imaginaerum to be released here in the states next month. During the course of 2011 I grew from a casual fan of the band who liked a number of their singles, to a fan who owns a copy of all of their studio recordings. I gathered up every single one of their cd's this year and have been listening to them a lot. The new single is a strong effort by the band who struggled to keep their fanbase intact after recruiting a new singer. I look forward to the new album because I have yet to find a single solitary song by them that I dislike. I am interested as well in the film of the same name coming next year that will contain music from the cd.

What about the rest of you? Thoughts? Discuss.

So now that the album has been released, I thought I would share some thoughts on it. It's better than Dark Passion Play, although I still like most of their older material better. That's not due to a singer preference. I like both Tarja and Anette for different reasons. The older albums (especially Oceanborn and Wishmaster) were just catchier. I rank it 4th or 5th out of the 7 they have released, although I really enjoy everything Nightwish has released. I would have gotten it no matter what because Nightwish is my favorite band. The first single "Storytime" is good, but hardly the best track on the album. Most of the other tracks are even better. It is an amazing cd and it exceeded my expectations. I was lucky enough to find a copy of the special edition which comes with a second disc containing instrumental versions of each track. I didn't even know that a special edition existed, I was very excited. Now if only the 6 previous albums had extra discs with instrumentals too lol.... I highly recommend it to anyone who likes symphonic metal and anyone looking for something heavy or catchy.
