If You Were Breaking In To Wrestling, Who Would You Want To Train You (Past\Present)?

nightmare

...7, 8, Better stay up late...
i had a great idea for a thread the other day & cant wait to hear your choices. if you were going to get in the ring to become a wrestler, & could pick anyone to train under- who would you pick? Past greats? current stars? any promotion from any period of time.

i trained for a few months with some of the guys from PCW in texas & have had this discussion with some of them during my time there & when i was just a fan in the crowd. lance hoyt(vance archer), james johnson (jjj), mike fox, action jackson, wally darkmon, kevin payne. if u havent seen some of the pcw shows definately check it out. sabu, aj styles, paul london & others have graced the ring there & i have shaken many hands & have gotten some great advice.

so back to my question. i cant base my decision on just mat skill. it comes down to a good mind for the biz, mic skill, talent on the mat & ring psychology. my choice is actually a tie between bret hart& ric flair. these two men have done it all in this sport. countless world titles, hundreds of fantastic matches round the globe. ric has cut some of the greatest promos of all time. bret is a fantastic mat technician b\c of his family's dungeon. they have been in great federations & have filled arenas for years. in a top ten list of greats in the past 20 yrs, these two would have to be included. both can take a beating, have been known for solid matches & for some of the best factions in history.

so now your thoughts, who & why? ....

Maybe Bret Hart....if I was feeling confident about being able to handle the famous Hart dungeon techniques that I am are The Hitman picked up from his Dad!

But...I would go for Shawn Michaels. One of the best in-ring performers of all time, incredibly charismatic so could help you on the promo side of the business too, and used to run a wrestling school that produced Bryan Danielson and Brian Kendrick...so has a track record of success

Shawn Michaels for me

I would go with the man in The Natural's sig... Raven.

The reasons are pretty simple. For one, he's one of my favorite wrestlers of all time... so obviously that plays into my choice, but second and most importantly, the guy knows the business and how to perform as well as anyone else. Plus, I think he would make it fun, rather than torture you with unnecessary garbage. Don't get me wrong, I would still expect hard work, but it wouldn't be something ridiculous where I would go home miserable every single day. He would teach me how to bump, and teach the psychologies of working a match. 3 months of that and I'd be ready to go.

Moreover, Raven's someone I could listen talk all day. I have pretty much every shoot interview he's ever done on DVD, which is why I already know how wrestling school would be with him (like the 3 month thing; he's stated plenty of times no one should be in wrestling school more than 3 months). So, that plays a little into it as well, because I would already know what to expect from him, rather than walk into something and have no idea what's going to happen.

I'm quite a bit torn on this. If were were still going on strictly promo and hype alone, I'd definitely be all for HBK just for sheer charisma, and the face he had that training camp with his name all over it and I've seen some of the people that came from his training camp, Lance Cade, Brian Kendrick, Angel Orsini. They are some amazing wrestlers. But another one I thought of, and this could be way out of left field, but after watching how some people have lasted a while, either Team 3D, or their trainer, Johnny Rodz, more than likely Johnny Rodz. I've kinda just looked all around and from different readings, that's just what I seem to look for. Whoever will let a girl get into hardcore matches, that's what I'd want. If the Funks are still doing it, then hell yes. I'm really not picky, I think it would all depend on what style of wrestling I'd want, I really can't say what style I'd want to do today, I could change my mind tomorrow, and that could just change what training you would want to go for....but the people I listed above are the ones that fit into my DREAM trainers I'd have to say.

I would like to be trained by HBK as well.He was such a great showman that I would be fortunate for some of that charisma to rub off on me.

I would have to go with Hulk Hogan, I know he's really aging at this day in age, but he's done it all in the wrestling bizz. You name it, he's done it, and what a better way to get trained than the one and the only. I know for a fact that he has every tool in the book that I would need to learn in order to be successful, and if I ever got famous all of the credit would go to him for making me who I would be.

This is too easy...Eddie Guerrero Eddie had it all. He, to me, was THE best wrestler ever. And by ever I mean ever. Eddie was the total package. He could be a high flyer, submission specialist, technical, charismatic, risk taker, puttin on 60 minutes of entertainment, great wrestler. The total package gets thrown around a little too much but eddie really was. Fucking amazing on the mic. A great baby face, and a greater heel. he could teach someone breaking into the wrestling business soooo much about wrestling and then some. Not to mention, how great would the name guererro look on your wrestling resume. Anyone having eddie train them would be a lucky fuck.

R.i.p. eddie guerrero :worship:

Deffinatly Randy Orton, I would love to be taught by The Viper himself. He could show how to build your character as much as he did and also show you how to be a great inring competitor. Because a character like him compeling he always draws you in weither he is heel or face, being taught by a superstar of his caliber would be amazing

Probably everyone I could be trained by all over the world. It would be great to be trained by Bret, Shawn, and Ricky Steamboat. It would also be good to learn the ropes worldwide from different teachers in Japan and Mexico. Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson could be good teachers along with the Funk brothers. I believe Harley Race has a wrestling school in Missouri. I would go to any wrestling school with a credible instructor. The only ones I wouldn't go to would be Ultimate Warrior's wrestling school and the Team 3D academy.

At least at the 3D academy I might not be talented or ready in the ring, but I would probably have a job in TNA.

I've seen footage of the heart dungeon, and that was intense. look at some of those who came from it Jericho, Edge, every one of the Hearts, even some of the greats like Benoit and Gorilla Monsoon. but i would have to say either HBK, or Kurt Angle.

Promo wise? i would love to take tips from The Rock. no one has ever worked the mic better than the Great One.

kurt angle or. a mid 80s ric flair for me. both could wrestle and promo brilliantly, imagine what they could teach ya

If there's anyone I would like to be trained by, Iit would have to be Chris Jericho.

He has been one of the solid all around workers in the business for years. He knows how to work a crowd and he knows a lot more in the ring than he shows on TV. I feel that a up and comer can learn so much from a guy like Jericho.

It would be a combination of Bret Hart for in ring ability and Shawn Michaels for promos and charisma, 18 months ago i would have said The Rock for promos etc etc but the promos HBK had in the run-up to the last 2 Wrestlemanias were spine tingling.

Being a good wrestler doesn't necessarily mean that those guys would be good trainers. I would probably go with Jericho though. He's been all around the business, is one of the best currently active wrestlers both in the ring and on the mic. He also seems like someone who would have a genuine interest in helping his students succeed rather than just getting paid, teaching you how to bump and sending you on your way.

If i had to choose a wrestler to train with then i would have to choose HHH, just for the fact he knows the business inside and out and the fact that he is such a student of the game himself. great mic skills, great in ring ability, and of course he has a small connection back stage, but HHH.

If i had to have a manager help bring me along, i would want Jimmy "the mouth of the south" Hart.
