If you could have a superpower...

TheHeartbreakPunk

HBK for life
The question here is, if you could have only one superpower, what would that power be? It can be anything, from flight, invisibility, the ability to conjure up women at will, anything.

For me, i would want the ability to learn anything as soon as someone teaches it to me and be an expert at me. For instance, you could go to mike tyson and say, teach me how to box. Or, go to your soccer coach, and say teach me how to play soccer, and you would be awesome. It would be cool to have in school, and sports.

That is very imaginative, very cool. I can see how that would be useful in a million different ways too. I think the power would basically be the ability to absorb their knowledge and expertise and then execute it, kind of the like how in The Matrix, they can just download any ability to their memory and then use it. That would be sweet.

I've always wanted nothing more than to be able to use The Force just like the Jedi and Sith. That could enable you to do a lot of different stuff. That's one thing.

If I was going to actually be able to have ONE power though I'd have to make it really good. It would have to be something that is very functional and that I could use not only to my benefit but to others. For that reason I think it would have to be something that allowed me to be of some intelligence level far beyond anything anyone is actually capable of. It would have to be something like the ability to use 100% of my brain and thus do many other things because my brain power would be so great I could do virtually anything, or figure out how to do anything else I wanted to do. You could find the cure for any disease, figure out the most complex scientific mysteries, make the most accurate economic plans and projections to create a perfect global economic environment, have such a great understanding of physics and science on top of brain power that you could manipulate time, matter, and space to fly, travel through time, or levitate object or completely destroy them unraveling their molecular make-up, etc.... So I guess the power would be Super Genius.

Super intellegence, I couldnt have that, I am bad enough while thick as pig shit, if I had a Super Intellect I would actually be Evil, with a capital "E". I'd start believing things like the ends justifies the means and that those of an inferior intellect should be sacrificed so that my cure for cancer can be made. That its okay to wipe out Human life because Human's are basically scum anyway.

Nah, I'd just go for your basic, middle of the road super improved physique, or failing that like Collusus from X-Men, with the whole turning to metal schtick. Then I'd go and make a difference or something.

Anybody that says mind-reading or mental manipulation is basically a rapist.

Time Travel.

There is seriously nothing you could not accomplish with the ability to manipulate time itself. I could go in one of two different directions.... There's the Biff Tannen route where I use knowledge of the future to benefit only myself. I first travel to the future to procure information that I can use in the present to further myself in life to the point where I take over the world. I'd see to it that WWE would then book every show like I say and that EVERY Final Fantasy game (up until 13) would receive a PS3/360 remake. Then we have the Chrono Trigger route, where I could use time travel to stop awful events from taking place. If I knew when the world would end I could form a team to prevent that disaster/incident/whatever or I could change history by preventing things in the past from happening.

There's the inevitable issue of breaking the time space continuum by meeting another "me" so I'd be extra careful. Or maybe I would purposefully destroy the time space continuum in this way just to see what happens. Not until after I've taken over the world and/or saved it from destruction first though. ;) If I knew I had made a mistake at any point, I'd probably wear some type of disguise and use a voice modification device when trying to steer another "me" from taking an incorrect time traveling jump. Yeah, I've thought this through before as you can tell. It's very fun to think about! :)

For me, I've always wanted the power of teleportation. Its always fascinated me in sci-fi stories or TV shows. I like the thought of being able to go anywhere in the world with just a simple thought. Maybe save someone from a burning building or get yourself out of a rather sticky situation. Plus it would save a bundle on travel expenses.

Super Abs.... definitely... chicks dig abs. lol just kidding.

I agree with Joaguin's Cleft Lip. If I were a super genius, I would probably end up being super evil, so that's out.

I'd go with the general ability to wield magic, you know, super sorcerer supreme, like the old-school Dr. Strange could before he lost a lot of his powers. With magic, you can basically do anything. Alter reality, read minds, fly, control the elements, it's all up for grabs. I might end up being super evil there too.

As far as one specific ability, I'd go with the ability to become immaterial or ethereal, like The Vision or Kitty Pryde possess. You could pretty much avoid all forms of physical damage, and you could do cool things like phase through the walls of a stadium and walk to a front row seat at a WWE event. Security couldn't do shit, they couldn't touch me.

I'd probably still end up as a super evil bastard.

Invincibility/Invulnerability. Seems rather obvious to me. Never have to worry about getting sick or getting injured. This is not the same as immortality. I absolutely do not want to live forever, at least not in the strictly corporeal sense. Biblical sense, yes, superpower sense, no.

I finished watching the entire series of Heroes a couple of days ago, after watching it all I say freezing time period.

There is almost nothing you can't do by freezing time, nearly limitless possibilities. Want to get WWE 13 or whatever video game you want on the first day of it's release? Freeze time and steal one from your local video game accessory store. Want to fulfill any normal or exotic sexual fantasy on the "love of your life"? Go ahead with no consequences (if you cover it up right). The entire world stops right at your will leaving, hypothetically leaving it's user (me) to do whatever I desire while also leading to the minimization of the real time consequences of such acts.

Personally the first thing I'd do is find some way to get on some high cash game show, and win the maximum amount of cash possible by freezing time and looking up all the answers to any question I receive. I could go around and change anything that happens around me, while at the same time manipulating some random people around me. Basically like most superpowers it would be extremely efficient.

Some how I could seem myself ending up drawing on people's faces with that power.

Hiro from "Heroes" had likely one of the best blends of super powers. The ability to manipulate both time and space. And if you really think about it, the dimensions kind of work that way. Conceivably, if you can stop time, you should be able to move through space. It's all dimension travel, just manipulated the way you want it. To be able to not only stop time, but instantly go where you want to be is just the greatest combo of instant gratification ever.

And no, I have no doubts that my already questionable line of "morally grey" would get a whole lot more convoluted. I would steal. Many many things, probably. Not to an excessive state - I'd never rob a billion dollars or anything - but all the simple joys I could want in life. And I'd probably make a rule that I'd never steal from anything or anybody but a giant corporation. And as already brought up, the potential to set up the most wonderful erotic situations is pretty great... I'm not really into rape though, so I'd probably just go find Jennifer Lawrence or Karen Gillan and convince them to marry me, on account of my superpower to stop time and give them whatever they want.

I have to go with teleportation, or "jumping," as it's called by one of my favorite movies Jumper.
I can escape anyplace I need to, never have to pay damn traveling fees again, and...
Well, that's about it. All I've ever wanted.

Flight. I've always been fascinated by birds, planes, hell- anything that flies. I myself have always wanted to fly, and to be able to do so would be a childhood dream come true. That and I won't have to make payments on my Silverado anymore! ;)

Invisibility. You can go anywhere without another's knowledge. Secrecy is a great tool to have as a power and invisibility gives that to you.

Flight definitely, or time travel, there's a few aspects of my past I'd willingly go back and change if I could go back, knowing now what I didn't back then.

Well if it's a superpower, to use as a superhero... and like to benefit more people than just me, I'd say teleportation, although I have no idea how that would work; I've always wondered what it'd be like if you teleported to somewhere and you didn't know who or what was exactly where. Like I mean short distances, I can see, but what if you teleport to like somewhere you can't see and land like in the middle of another human being, or a brick wall or whatever? Scary stuff xD

I just saw this thread, wasn't aware that it'd been created almost a year ago.

Growing up, I read comics and watched various movies & TV shows about characters with superhuman powers. One thing I've noticed is that, when you think about it, I don't know if you can have really just one power. For instance, let's say you can run & move at superhuman velocity. Just to keep it somewhat grounded, let's say you can reach a top speed of...I dunno... say 200 mph. Running at such a speed, you'd be little more than a blur to the average human eye, especially over short distances. In order to be able to attain that kind of speed safely, pretty much your entire body would also have to be enhanced to some superhuman level. Your muscles, tendons, bones, joints and even your skin would all have to be considerably tougher & more durable than that of an ordinary human. Your muscles would also have to produce far less lactic acid, giving you much greater stamina. Your cardiovascular system would have to be greatly augmented in order to allow you to be able to draw in oxygen, thusly contributing to your physical stamina. Your reflexes and agility would also have to be at a superhuman level so you can adequately move and dodge objects in your path so you don't go crashing into them. Even your eyes would have to be enhanced in some way to allow you to be able to see and so the friction of the air blowing against them wouldn't dry them out and severely damage them. You'd have to be enhanced, otherwise you'd literally wreck your body.

It's really like that with just about any sort of physical power. If you're superhumanly strong, your bodily tissues also have to be durable enough to withstand the strain of lifting or moving massively heavy weight. As a result, you might also have some degree of superhuman stamina.

But if I could only just have one, I'd probably pick power mimicry. I guess that's what you'd call it. I've read about a few characters who can sorta shift their DNA in order to take on various powers whether they be physical, mental, energy manipulative, etc. It'd be sweet to just do whatever it is you do with your DNA to be able to, even if it's only temporary, give you powers that come in handy when you might need them.

Strange, I remember reading this a year ago and thought I'd replied in it.

I think any power I had would be for the purpose of allowing me more time to do the things I want. That may be a waste of enormous potential but personally I'd like the ability to teleport. I think most people don't realise how much time they waste just getting from one place to another. On top of that I'd love to travel but I've a fear of flying.
Of course a heel turn would be inevitable eventually and I'd end up teleporting myself into a bank vault.

Thank you for bringing this back into discussion Jack-Hammer. So, what superpower do I desire the most?

I wish I could fly! Flying could get me from place to place, faster, and in more of a calm way with the cool breeze and no one else in the way. I could go on top of buildings, get away from all the bullshit, etc. Flying would also be a fun power to have.

Without a doubt, and I'm sure many would agree; The power to fly.

Teleportation. The things it could save me, like paying travel fees, time to do what I want to do when I'm going somewhere, my feet from hurting when I walk, and from arriving late to college or work.

Also I watched Jumper recently and the movie made teleportation look really cool. And Tesla from The Unholy War, whose superpower is teleportation, is one of my favourite game characters.

I would like to have the power to heal just by putting my hands on myself or someone else. That would be a power I could use to not only help myself, but other people as well. The power to make blind people see, deaf people hear, cure cancer, and what have you. I guess that is the power that Jesus had, and it would for sure come in handy.

That's easy. The Ability to Fly. I already have most of Supermans abilities due to my attunment to the earth's chi. So if this reality breaks down those abilities will shine. But I always wanted the ability to fly. To be able to soar through the skies at the speed of light. Man what a trip that would be.

As some people are saying,, freezing time is the way to go. You can achieve just about anything. You could steal a helicopter, fly over Washington DC and bomb the White House using bombs marked with the name of an organisation you hate. And then go to the recently voted Sexiest Woman Alive's house and bang her until she bleeds. Or anything you want.

I wouldn't want a superpower so much as that pill NZT from the movie Limitless. Oh, and I'd also want to be only one of twenty or so people that knew about it and had access to an unlimited supply.

Time travel, and it's not even close for me. Well, for a second I thought about flying, but I got over that in my early teens.

I'm sure we all have something in our pasts that we would like to change, or have a second chance to do something different. I think it's one of the main reasons why the Back To The Future films (well, mainly the original) are so beloved. George standing up to Biff in the 50's and capturing Loraine's heart, Marty and Doc stopping the evil and corrupt Biff in Part II, and Marty backing out of the race with Needles that eventually ruined his life in the future in Part III.

We see these characters go back, and "get it right," so we can form a connection with them, because again, using hindsight, we all have something in our lives, where we wish we could go back and make the right choice the second time around.

I didn't see any restrictions, so...

I would want the ability to make anything in my imagination real. Anti-Gravity Suit? Personal freeze ray? Boom, have it. Time Travel Helmet? Super-Power-Making machine? Shapeshifting Belt? Dimension-Bender? All I have to do is think it and it shall BE.

What better power is there than that??
