I made a few sigs...

Sully

Pre-Show Stalwart
I was messing around with Gimp for the first time, and I made a few WWE themed sigs. There not good at all in my opinion, and each one I'm learning something new about the program, so give me the benefit of the doubt, but tell me what you think, and how I can make it better. I know I'd probably never be able to compete with the guys on here who can own this kind of stuff, and I'm not planing on trying, just thought it'd be fun to test it out though. (I used The People's Peep's Gimp Tutorial to make all of these, so I thank him greatly.)

This is one of my first ones, nothing too do with WWE, but it's what got me a little more better. It's pretty bad though, as far as quality goes.

This is my next one, I tested things out here, such as transparency and backgrounds, I actually like this one a little bit.

This one I guess for me, isn't bad, but I didn't put much effort in it, and kept it fairly simple.

This one is my last one, and probably my best one, I tried out a lot of different things in it, and I hope it turned out good.

I just want an expert's opinion on these, thanks. :)

Right off the bat, I can tell you that your cutting is bad. Number 43 specifically. When you cut, you dont want to have a part of the background in the picture. Thats a big no-no. Your Steelers logo is also cut pretty poorly too. Along with everything else.

Look at Orton in the bottom left. You NEVER want to have any picture that is cut off like that. It makes it look ugly. Look at Randy in the bottom right. Why didnt you move that one down to the bottom instead of leaving it floating on the background? The text here doesnt exactly fit in.

Again, very poor cutting jobs. Layers are your friends. You dont want to have every picture in the same layer. Otherwise they overlap each other like they do here. The Kane in the bottom left, why is he floating in the air? Move him down to the bottom.

You think this is your best one? I beg to differ. Again, poor cutting jobs on this one. Pictures overlapping one another, one Triple H is cut off and is floating on the sig. Let alone the fact it is overlapping Triple H. Actually, there are two of them here.

You wont like me very much after I say that these are pretty bad. There are a lot of things that you need to fix. However, the problems are easily fixable. First, instead of cutting pictures, go to "www.psd-dreams.de" they have perfectly cut renders of superstars. Secondly, use layers. I cant stress that enough. You never want to have random pictures overlapping one another. Also, stop having cut-off pictures just float around on the background. It makes it look ugly. Also, add a border. It makes the sig look complete.

Thanks. Your right for the most part, but I used a border on the Kane one :), can you explain how to use layers, like I said I was experimenting with all of them, mostly trying too figure out layers. The overlapping was what I was planning on doing, but not as much as it turned out, and I used the psd dreams site for all of the Triple H one, and most of the Kane one, and a little bit of the Orton one. Yes, the Steeler one is extremley bad, but like said, that was my first one. I'm glad you gave me advice though...tough love..right? ;p

wow ok i'm going to try to be subjective and nice here. If you have a render that is cut off then its better to use it at the edge or not at all. Example: on the HHH sig there are two renders where the bottom half are cut off so IMO they would be better served on the bottom of the sig. 2. I dont know how long you have been at this but a. i commend your effort and b. have you looked into any tutorials? You can pm me and i can give you about 100 links to some really good gimp and photoshop tuts. I am by no means the epic sick sigmaker or nothing and i started out just like this. Good luck to you and all aspiring sig makers. I hope you didn't take this harshly it wasn't intended to be so
