Hybrid character in HHH?

Getting Noticed By Management
Alright, I recently saw somewhere posted in the news post about people not knowing if HHH gets to the point of being a face or a heel. People were confused as he is a heel against Daniel Bryan and the whole WWE Championship/Face of the Company storyline, but seems to be a face during the Punk/Heyman segments, since he favors Punk in his decisions.

Could we be talking about a first ever hybrid character, as in being heel and face in the same time? Is this what WWE creative is trying to do? It might have come to them by surprise, but they might as well have thought of this scenario.
It comes differently that the typical "tweener" character, as a tweener seems to be a face using more heelish tactics, being more aggressive, Punk being a classic example currently. If this is indeed a matter of a hybrid character, then how does this affect the legitimacy of HHH being "the bad boss that everyone hates"? What if WWE tries to have us not cheer or boo a certain guy, but rather watch what he does and either applaud or boo his particular action?

What are your thoughts? Is this WWE's creative way to write HHH? Could it work not having a typical reaction my the fans, but rather love or hate HHH by his decisions made on the spot? It seems refreshing to me.

P.S.: I always thought of a scenario where a guy shows up as a heel at Raw and as a face on Smackdown (or vice versa). Getting 100% boo'ed for heelish actions and 100% cheered for face actions.

HHH seems to me like he wants to be the star of the whole thing , when he should be the antagonist in the angle. He's just not comfortable being in a non-wrestler's role.

I just think he is a heel but trying to make him self look like a good guy and being fair in other storylines but a massive heel in his main story line. If punk/haymen crossed in to his storyline he would stop being fair and be the heel there to.

He is playing the boss everyone hates he has his favorites and people who he doesn't like he throws under the buss. I like the hatred of haymen with the fued with brock lensar still fresh

I guess you have a point there, since after all he isn't involved as much, but on to the next question, could a character like that one work?

HHH isn't really playing favorites to Punk. He just hates Heyman, as does the McMahon family.

As to your ideas of a "hybrid" character and a face/heel on Raw/SmackDown, they're rad ideas, but not really feasible given how fickle the WWE audience can be.

I don't know about a hybrid, but HHH's corporate role is entirely reality based. In any work place, management always do what they feel is "best for business", and sometimes those decisions are popular among the employees. Sometimes those decisions are unpopular. They stick with their decisions and if you don't like it, you will be made an example of because you don't question them. They have their favorites who will get favorable treatment and the guy who is their poster boy is being built up to take over.

It does add a level of unpredictability to what HHH is capable of in his future decisions and to what lengths he will go to prove that he's right and everyone else is wrong.

Reading everything you guys said, it does indeed seem like HHH is a heel with a hatred towards Heyman. I love HHH being heel, as his face runs seem so forced, and especially now that he plays the "best for business - I don't know what I do hurts others" heel. But, somewhere down the road, I'd like to see HHH legitimately taking a face decision (quite like he did on this Raw 11 vs 3 handicap match), without the intention to screw anyone. Then, he can take another heel decision, then a face one etc, until he becomes this hybrid character. It might confuse the fans, but I guess it's worth a shot. OR, if they don't want to pull it off with HHH, they can try Ziggler or Cody or Damien Sandow.

He's not being a face in the Heyman-Punk fued, he just hates Heyman. That's not bad acting, that's playing a realistic character. Because everyone likes to bring up the Attitude Era, I'll use it as an example. Prior to them merging into the Corporate Ministry, the Corporation and The Ministry of Darkness were both heel groups, and yet they feuded with each other.

It's just continuity. It'd be more confusing if Trips started working with Heyman after years of hating him with absolutely no development.

I personally think Triple H realized the way his character was going and being portrayed, the only payoff would be tapping out to Bryan clean, and he had no interest in doing that. I dunno, I might be wrong, but I think this story has been corrupted by some ego.

I think that will happen soon enough. With the way HHH is getting involved in Punk/Heyman storyline, it just seems obvious that they are building towards incorporating Punk and Heyman into the McMahon family vs Bryan feud. I think there was a rumor a while back that plan was for once Punk/Heyman finishes to Punk have come help Bryan and cut a shoot type promo reminiscent of that of 2011 as to how both Punk and Bryan are from indies and do not fit the mold of what wwe looks for into a wrestler.

Well, one can only hope for that, it will be so amazing if it actually happens.

I think they're trying to run a layered storyline in tune with the great TV shows of this era (Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad etc.) where the heel characters are anti-heroes, ones who do horrible things but believe in their reasons (in their own heads at least).

Problem with that is that Raw and Smackdown doesn't afford enough time per character to truly tease this out and wrestling definitely runs better on black and white issues. I commend them for giving this type of angle a shot but I genuinely think Triple H needs to hit the full heel switch at this stage because it's hurting the faces of the company

The term you are looking for is tweener. HHH is a heel, and he is working a storyline to get the locker room onside in his battle with under dog Bryan, in my opinion

Nop, as explained in the original post, tweener is mostly a face using more heelish tactics, makes fun of others etc, like Stone Cold, or Orton in 2012.
Being a heel cannot assosciate with using face ways, except possibly only by having clean victories, otherwise you are not a heel. So HHH is not a tweener.

I personally think it's a matter of business. His corporate persona allows HHH to make decisions out of the ordinary and explainable, cause he is the boss after all. Therefore he can surprise friend and/or foe with any of his actions if he considers actions justified. I can see how that would create a tweener/hybrid character, but looking at this realistically HHH is just a representation of "The Company" who do not have to explain their actions to either the locker room or the WWE universe at this point.

I personally really like this. Makes HHH and therefore the shows really unpredictable and more fascinating to watch really. He could screw or favour anyone at any time and that makes a hell of a lot better TV then the chewed out GM bull we had the last couple of years...
