Hulk Hogan VS Ric Flair - match that never happen in Wrestlemania? But this promo?

I don't buy the house show theory that has been put out for years.

Hogan and Flair drew big money for WCW everytime they clashed from 1994 all the way to 1999. Every time they were put together it popped the buys and the ratings.

As for Hogan refusing to job to Flair or work with Flair, again, a stupid theory. Hogan had no issues working with Flair (they even got along backstage) and Flair never had a problem doing the job for Hogan.

I think the more logical explanations are that Vince wanted to turn Sid into a huge star so he wanted him to work a program with Hogan instead once it looked like Hogan was going to be gone for awhile.

This is maybe the biggest Mania screw up in terms of booking of alllll time. As much as I enjoyed the Savage/Flair feud, it should have been Hogan/Flair without a doubt. Flair cost Hogan the title against Undertaker at Survivor Series '91. Tunney originally named Hogan the #1 contender...and then bam, switcharoo and Hogan faces Sid? Made zero sense. Here's how it should have gone:

WWF Championship: Ric Flair (c) vs. Hulk Hogan

Randy Savage vs Jake Roberts

This feud was amazing, starting off at SummerSlam when Jake and Taker put the snake in a wedding gift box for Randy and Liz. The famous scene when Jake had Savage tied up in the ropes and let his cobra bite him on the arm. This feud should have culminated at Mania 8 in a no holds barred or steel cage match. They blew this big time.

Ultimate Warrior vs The Undertaker

I would've kept Taker heel and brought the Warrior back sooner, instead of saving it for the end of Mania. Taker gets the win with help from Papa Shango, who comes out and puts a curse on Warrior, rendering him defenseless. Shango would feud with Warrior shortly after his return, so this would have been a perfect setup.

What to do with Sid though? Bret Hart, Davey Boy Smith, or Roddy Piper would have all been great choices. If he had stayed face and not feuded with Hogan, then Papa Shango, Shawn Michaels, or Taker would have been a good way to go. Sid was out of WWF soon after this ppv anyway, so it doesn't even matter much. Let him have a quick squash against The Warlord for all I care. Maybe even a six-man tag with the LOD against Jimmy Hart's guys The Nasty Boys and or Money Inc w/ The Mountie.

But Hogan vs Flair is a no-brainer as one of the biggest main events that WWF/E missed the boat on. WM8 had the potential to be one of the best 5 Manias of all-time with the roster they had. And instead, it completely flopped.

He made it up or heard it from someone who made it up. Hogan worked with Rude before 1990, and worked with Flair numerous times over the years. Rude left the WWF shortly before Survivor Series 1990 (he was in a feud with the Bossman) because of the payoff he received from the Summerslam 1990 match with Warrior. Rude felt he carried the match and deserved more money. It had nothing to do with Hogan.

Not the mention, Savage was relatively small compared to Hogan, and he worked with him many times. Along with Mr. Perfect and the Genius, who Hogan even lost to.
