Howard Stern

klunderbunker

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
He's pretty much the biggest name in radio in the world and perhaps the biggest name in that form of media ever, but what does he mean now? In the 80s and 90s Stern was considered one of the biggest threats to send the country to hell along with Bevis and Butthead, the WWF and Marylin Manson. I was never a big fan of his but i did watch his TV show on E most of the time. Nowadays he's the centerpiece of satellite radio and he's really not heard of much anymore.

The point of this is simple: are you a fan of his or not, what do you think of him, and does he mean anything anymore?

I was a fan of Stern's back in the 90's, well before satellite radio even existed. He was funny on most occasions, and even had some interesting guests. As much as I enjoyed the segments with pornstars, strippers, and some of the whack jobs, it was not good radio.

I haven't listened to him in years, and from what I've been told, I'm better off. He's become a parody of himself. I'm not surprised. Toilet humor and sex jokes can only get you so far on the radio. He was better off when his show was broadcast on E!.

Does he mean anything? No. Him jumping ship to satellite was supposed to change the face of radio, and he failed miserably. His fans didn't carry over, and he failed to pick up any new ones. He could mean something again, but it takes switching back to AM/FM and losing the same stale routine.

I don't think you could say that he didn't bring anyone over to Satellite with him. Before the merger started up, Sirius had somewhere along the lines around 500,000 subscribers, while XM was over 3,000,000, and within a couple years, Sirius rivaled their subscription rate, and eventually bought out XM and have a combined 18.5 million subscribers. At at least 10 dollars a month, they are bankrolling, and a lot of it can be attributed to Howard Stern.

I used to listen to the man religiously, and eventually followed him to Sirius, and enjoyed the programming, I simply got to the point where I didn't want to pay for radio. If anything made the industry irrelevant, the MP3 player and downloadable music did it. If you listen to Terrestrial radio, it is simply atrocious. I only listen to it when I have nothing else to listen to at all, and sometimes I'd rather listen to silence then the commercial filled, censored crap.

As far as the man's legacy, in radio, it's legendary. He was able to syndicate his radio show all across the country, and has a loyal following of millions, that followed him to paid subscriptions at Sirirus.

I've never been a fan of Stern's although during the timeframe he was popular I was too young to listen to him. Since I've gotten older and have been able to listen to him he seems corny and sleezy and non-entertaining. Like I said wasn't arounf for Stern's supposed prime but from what I've seen of him right now he isn't anything special. Not denying what he has done for the entertainment industry however the man is a household name.

I'm am a HUGE fan of Howard Stern and have been since his show debuted on E! all those years ago. I use to watch the show literally every night while I went to sleep, and I just loved it. I love him, really. The guy just cracks me up, and I think he's by far and away the best interviewer in the World. He ask the questions everybody else is afraid to ask, and he does so in such a cool, calm, collective way that you can't help but to give him your best answers, if you're the one being interviewed. In fact, he has set the bar so high for his guest, that people make sure before going on there to give the best interview they possibly can give. There is absolutely NOTHING boring about a Howard Stern interview, and the fact is... there's nothing boring about his show, period.

The guy knows talent, and has surrounded himself with it. Fred is a fucking comedic genius; Artie Lange is Artie Lange; Sal and Richard are fucking nuts; Robin is the mediator and the person with the most common sense; and Baba Booey is the greatest punching bag in the history of radio, and what makes that so hilarious is that he's the boss.

Howard's show is just fantastic, and the dude is fantastic. I'm a huge, huge fan, and as long as he's around, I always will be. He truly is the king of radio...

I was a fan of the show on E, but I did find him annoying after awhile. I respect his honesty and his willingness to break radio taboos but shock can only work when used sparingly. A constant bombardment of shock strips it of it's effectiveness. Towards the end of the E! show, Artie was the only funny aspect.
