How Pathetic is EA Sports?

Lil Wes

All Eyez On Me
Alright, I got into the hockey mood with the playoffs goin on and all that, been playing 2K7 games all year since I didn't want to waste 60 bucks.

So I go out and by NHL 08 because I heard it was more "realistic" with better gameplay than 2K8.

Word of advice folks, DO NOT FUCKING BUY THIS CROCK OF SHIT THEY CALL A VIDEO GAME, BY FAR THE WORST FUCKING SHIT I'VE EVER PLAYED.

Even worse that NBA Live games and that's sad.

Skating at 70 MPH us realistic? A fucking speeding clock you can't adjust is realistic? Horrid graphics, gameplay and controls all for next gen? You fucking kidding me?

Worst hockey game ever hands down. I've played games from 2001 that have better gameplay and graphics.

Had to rant. Talk about EA's shittyness here or praise them. Outside of football games, IMO their abysmal.

I have to agree that NBA Live is awful compared to NBA 2k8. Live makes you feel nauseous every time you play, where as 2k8 has smooth gameplay. I don't care about hockey enough to critique the NHL games, although the NHL games on Genesis were really good and a lot of fun back in the day.

Madden is always a lot of fun though, I usually play that for months once it's released. Also, I have Tiger Woods on my laptop, and although its not as fun to play as it first was, I love the gameplay and how realistic it is. MVP Baseball was a lot of fun, and it blows any edition of 2K's baseball out of the water. I can't wait for EA to start producing baseball games again, because it will be a real tough choice between that and The Show.

The only EA sports game I've ever played would have to be Madden. Well, okay I think Tiger Woods golf is EA so that too.

But I pick NBA 2k5 over NBA live any day of the week. The action is slower paced and more realistic. (unless you're playing as the Suns :disappointed:) And I don't even know why on earth you'd wanna waste $60.00 on a hockey game that you could've merely bought its better quality rival for what $30.00?

Like I said, Madden (and NCAA Football, which I also think is EA) are the only EA Sports games outside of Tiger (which doesn't have a rival to my knowledge) that I play.

I love Madden, especially for online play on the xbox 360 and the graphics aren't horrible. However if 2k Sports still presented the ESPN version of the football game.. you'd be hearing me bad mouth Madden by leaps and bounds for horrible overall game play.

Sadly, ESPN 2k4 (I think thats the last one) was the first one I tried. I originally didn't want to break away from Madden because while the graphics for PS2 sucked and looked choppy at best, I gave 2k a chance and was blown away once I got the hang of the more complex control system.

Furthermore, by complex I mean it makes you actually THINK.. instead of run the same fricken play and get by with it.

I think that as far as the NHL series goes, it hit it's peak in NHL 2004. The Dynasty mode was awesome, the roster was perfect, graphics great, gameplay smooth. From there though things have slowly seemed to go downhill. It's not just the NHL series either. Nascar Thunder 2004 was probably my favorite Nascar game of all time. Once EA got the sole rights to make Nascar games, they fell apart. Yes 2005 brought the chase for the cup as well as the other racing series, but the graphics, gameplay, and basically everything else did not improve, and a lot of aspects, espically the EA Sports soundtrack went way south. I'm not going to get into Madden, but I will say that it has gone downhill from where it once was.

Unfortunately, EA changed their slogan from "challenge everything" to "aquire everything" so it may be hard to avoid them. I already pointed out that in the last issue of game informer than EA is trying to purchase take two studios which would give them control over the 2k portfolio as well as the Bioshock franchise.

The new game informer which I just read today said EA is rumored to be going after another studio (it then made a great joke about EA buying the moon so that they could place their logo on it). The writers were highly critical of EA trying to aquire all of its competition and pointed out the drop in quality of their games. The biggest point was all the hype surrounding Madden 08 and the large amount of glitches that required patches which ultimately led to Madden taking the "honor" of 2007's biggest disappointment.

I just have to ask what gaming system you use because that seems to be the big problem these days. If you have a PS3, then all the games are unbelievably realistic, these days whenever they talk about the games, it is usually about what it is like on the PS3, if you have a PS2 then the games tend to not be all that great. I am at the point where I think they simply throw the PS2 games together and spend all of there time on the PS3 games. That might be why it sucked to you.

Regarding EA Sports, it is the best option. Madden is great, Tiger i great, the others are not too good. NBA 2K8 is better than NBA Live, I have not played the new NHL game, but last years EA NHL games was not that bad, not great, but not horrible. The MVP Baseball games were way better than the MLB 2K# games until the MVP games became college baseball. I own MVP Baseball 2004 and that game is better than any of the new MLB 2K8, K7, or any others. Basically it depends what EA game you are getting, the Football ones tend to be good, Tiger is always good, the hockey and basketball leave you wanting more.

When it comes to them advertising it as the most realistic ever, I think they are talking about the PS3 version, if you dont have a PS3, that might be why it dissappionted you.

BTW, free rep for anyone that knows if you can set the clock to real time in NHL 08, I'm half drunk and don't want to look. Just PM me ;)

I have a PS3, hence why I said it's next gen. The realism in the hockey game is pathetic. NFL, yeah it's good but Hockey and hoops games? Laughable. 2K blows them away in every way.

As for the PS3, It's unbelievably shitty. Extremely horrendous for 600 bucks.

So far the only PS3 game I've got worth a piss is MLB The Show. Easily one of the better baseball games ever, but I'm sure EA will eventually buy out the series as well although MVP is coming back and it kicks ass. MVP 05 was fantasic, while 2K blows at making quality baseball games.

As for Madden, I've always liked it. It gets better year by year too me. 07 was fantastic and 08 looked like it was just a remake of the year before. Same thing happens with the NCAA series too. Although both are still good, they should be better. Especially when playing next gen systems.

I find all of EA's shit to just be thrown together and not worth a piss for the PS3 and 2.

WHAT? Madden 07 was fantastic? There was pretty much no improvement what so ever from Madden 05 or 06. Madden 08 is the first Madden in years to actually improve something, new animation system, weapons.. It's still not great though. Hoping for EA to start using Natural Motion, like Backbreaker (http://youtube.com/watch?v=bc4wfc3BGl0) is going to do.

The Fifa games have improved for the better too.

But with EA trying to buy Take 2, who owns 2k, you might aswell prepare to say goodbye to the 2k sportsgames sadly. I love the basketball games and NFL 2k5 was freaking amazing.

I must say, it is mind boggling to see a system with so much raw power that hasn't even begun to fully utilize what it can do. The power in the PS3 puts the 360 to shame, but for some reason, the 360 is simply a better piece of hardware at this point. The Sony Network is terrible, the layout of the PS3's menus are hard to get a hold of. There are some fine tuning things that need to be addressed.

However, with games like Metal Gear 4, Gran Turismo, God of War 3 and Final Fantasy 13 on the way, the Playstation is going to get its library stocked. Hopefully someone learns what to do with all of that power, because potential wise, the PS3 is the best system of this generation, it's just using the damn thing right.

(Remake Final Fantasy 7 already damn it.)

WHAT? Madden 07 was fantastic?

I liked it. It was a huge step up from the lackluster QB game of 06.

The graphics were improved lots, plus it gave you the option to be a single player on the field. Which made the running game easier for me at least.

There was pretty much no improvement what so ever from Madden 05 or 06.

O5 was great, 06 sucked, 07 picked up the slack and 08 exploded. It's just the cycle the NCAA and NFL games go in.

Yup.

It really does suck, EA knows 2K owned them in every way but I did read some article on IGN I believe that talked about what the merge with EA would do and how much better the games would be. Personally, I think it's a crock, EA is lacking and they know it. So with the merge they can continue to half ass on their games like they do every year.

I'm expecting big things from Madden and NCAA this year, but outside of that.

Crap.

Just talking about EA in general, they are a horrible company.

The games they realise are often rehashes of older series, with perhaps updated graphics or different rostsers.

Look at the Sims series, the first 2 games were great, solid little games with huge replay value. Now, they are things like The Sims, How many different ways Can you Take a shit? and The Sims, Extreme Dogwalking. Its crap

The FIFA games pre-2000 were fantastic, now you play them and theya re terrible, nothing like Pro Evo in terms of realism and gameplay.

And it doesnt stop there. How many studios have EA bought who have then gone on to ruin?

Command and Conquer(Westwood), Theme Park series(Bullfrog), The Ultima Online series(Origin) are just a few of those aquired.

And with EA buying out Mythic, I just pray to god they do not muck up the forthcoming Warhammer Online, which was destined to overtake the child friendly World of Warcraft. And what about Dark Age of Camelot? This long running mmorpg has been around and seen it all in terms of mmorpgs. Are EA just going to dump DAOC, despite still have huge audiences in both Germany 3+k online in Germany, around the same in America. It still has the best pvp combat system out there(all you wow-fanaatics really need to download the trial and just go have a run around).

And finally, they are several blogs from current and ex- ea staff out there who slam the company for overworking them and underpaying them.

I love ea sports, but i also love 2k sports as well. I just played mlb 2k8 and that freakin game has so many features on it its unbelieveable. It gives you total control of the game. Deep in-game scouting reports, the pitching is great, it takes getting used to though of course. Granted i haven't played MLB 08 but i doubt its like 2k8.

And what pisses me off is that EA Sports seems to slack off sometimes. As with the ps3 versions of NCAA 08 and Madden 08, they run at a measely 30 fps, which makes the games look choppy and it pisses me off. It could be so great online and off, but the laziness of not putting it at 60 fps like the 360 dampens the whole experience.

I have to say that NBA Live is the closest thing to real basketball since I suited up to play last year. It's fast-paced and fun. Madden is always above average, Tiger is good, and the college games can't be bad. EA is not a bad company, however the acquire everything bit is smart business because if you put the best video game programmers and designers on a game then it will be great.

I don't believe that NBA Live is even remotely close to real basketball as I believe that 2K sports makes basketball games way more realistic looking than EA does(get NBA 2K9 & you will see that the graphics on the players & all the features are bad ass).

I say that the Madden series is actually improving on the game play as about before Madden 2005, I thought that the Madden series was a downer as the game play was weak & I would have rather played the ESPN NFL games(which I did & enjoyed).

EA isn't a bad company as they produce the great NCAA Football games, the improving Madden games, the decent Tiger Woods games, the great Need For Speed games & the decent Nascar games(Nascar Thunder 2004 is my favorite as I still play it).

I just think that they need to spend a little more time in improving the quality of the games & get those minor glitches out of their games & I believe that EA will be fine.
