DQ or the next town?

DQ. I don't mind getting some ice cream from DQ but I ended up with food poisoning once after eating there. I may have gotten the food poisoning before eating there but I take no chances.

The neighboring town has some decent restaurants and an excellent pizza joint. However since I've finally improved my cooking skills from being capable of not burning a grilled cheese sandwich to cooking an actual 3 course dinner that tastes decent and not culpable of killing anyone, I've cut down on eating at restaurants around here.

Almost every day. To be honest, it massively sucks to work 9+ hours in a kitchen and then go home to hear "hey cook, how about a meal" because everyone else is too busy with other things. Not to mention, my parents are very picky so I just eat out and say F-U.

I wouldn't say I'm surprised to see how many people here do it simply because of convenience, but I do find it kind of interesting. I read every post, and I don't think anybody has explicitly stated that they do it because they like the food.

Is a 'Spoons lunch fast food?

If I knew what that was, I'd tell ya.

Every Sunday, but if my something's up I may have it twice a week. There was one time when I had it three times in a week because of the harsh snow conditions, so we were a little behind on the shopping and fast-food was a reasonable option. I thought I was gonna die of a heart attack.

The "every Sunday," thing is something I find interesting because obviously there are a few people who do that, and I guess it derives from the tradition where families would go out for burgers and fries after church on Sunday.

Though if you're that interested, you may want to check this out:

Aaah who am I kidding, you're not going to watch all of that.

Supersize me is the documentary equivalent of The Kadashians. Food Inc. is the documentary I watched that made me swear off fast food.

JGlass - did you ever do that California internship that you were talking about?

Sadly, I did not. I am now a college graduate that is self-employed/looking for a good gig.

I used to drive off for 10 minutes to KFC back home. I can't find one here the OC, so I'm cut off from my precious Big Crunch and coleslaw.

I wouldn't eat it at all if if I didn't like what I was getting.

I didn't mean to imply that people disliked the taste of fast food, but it seems like convenience is the more important factor here, especially in the case of people like Sally, Killjoy, and LSN.

I ticked never, but I do eat meatball subways because Gary Busey is awesome. I also lunch at Wetherspoons when I feel like drinking all day, which is most weekends.

You already know from personal experience, that this is the case with the ol' boy NorCal. I was more or less laying in the weeds waiting for someone to make some pussy post about being health concious and all that.

Fuck yea thats why i do it. Why? Life is short, and food is delicous, thats why. I am all for the Viking ethos of embracing life, through deed, feast, and fornication. Will you be healthier if you eat less fast food? Probably. House Cats also live longer lives than outside cats, but stare helplessly out the window.

Fuck it, let me die at 70 instead of 75, and may my headstone read "he enjoyed many cheeseburgers". I would rather lead a shorter life while not stressing about fuckin' salads, than a longer one devoid of cheesbrgers and pizza.

A person who lives the life that I do can't necessarily count on living until ages which such things are a concern anyhow. Fuck worrying about that, I need to smash as much enjoyment and life into a small time-frame as possible.

I get enough health conscience flack from my parents. I can't cook a proper meal without them dropping their jaws at how many "carbs" or "calories" what I make has. It really drives me nuts.

I was going to say even though I don't eat fast food often, I enjoy Arby's and will not pass up an opportunity to get a burger and fries from Five Guys.

I'm generally not one for intense cravings. But after reading this post, I need a Fillet O Fish and a fun, attractive woman. Now. At the same time.

In fact I'll live large and make it a double Fillet. Wait. No. TWO double Fillets.

Fast food four times in a year? Somebody stop me!

Generally I would much rather eat fried chicken, burgers, hot dogs, fries, and Arby's Sauce more than anything else anyone or I could make for myself.

Pink slime is delicious.

Microwavable burgers and porn are a poor substitute, but damn it, I have to work with what I've got.

When I said if "something's up" and I get fast food, it included going out with friends for a long period of time. So we get some fast food, and I suppose you could say it's because we DO like it. If we didn't, we could grab something healthy I guess.

I wasn't aware that the idea of "fast food- sunday" comes from the after Church tradition, but the reason I actually do that is because it's the end of the week to be honest, and Sunday is a relax day.

Anyway, are you off fast food completley?

In the sense that I discussed: yes. The last time I had a full meal from a fast food restaurant was probably in late 2009/early 2010, and since then I think the only time I've had anything from a fast food place was in spring 2012 when I got some Wendy's fries at midnight after working a gig in Rhode Island.

Currently I get takeout once or twice a week, but previously I'd say I'd get it up to 3 times a week, but I've cut down for the sake of my health and my wallet. When I get takeout it's generally a pizza or sandwiches, though occasionally I'll get pasta or Chinese.

For me the decision to not eat fast food generally comes from not wanting to eat stuff that makes me feel like shit, is made with really gross ingredients, and because I don't really like how fast food corporations operate from a political standpoint. I realize that this is the stance of a bleeding heart liberal hippie, but what can I say: I love eating an organic burger while listening to the Grateful Dead.

I'm assuming the peace pipe is implied.

There's a place in Boston (maybe it's a bigger chain than just Boston, but I haven't seen them anywhere else) called Tasty Burger that tries to re-create the whole "Burger and a shake" scene but with a 21st century twist. It's a sit-down/carry-out restaurant, and while I usually do the sit-down thing if I go, one time I elected to get the sack of 5 burgers to take home so I can enjoy them properly.

Properly.

I don't get the people who eat fast food everyday because "you only live once." If you want to enjoy life, dying young of a heart attack and not having a healthy body isn't a good way to go at it. Even if you aren't religious, taking care of your body is important. I'm not saying you have to weigh 105lbs, but you shouldn't be at an enormous 305lbs either.

Life wisdom from the 15 year old.

JGlass, you know that shit is out the window when you come on visits to the new Castle NorCal

Not everyone's body works the same. Keep that in mind. Some people can chug down loads of fast food and show no ill effects quite a few years because of their body's metabolism.
