How long will it take Cody Rhodes to get into the ME?

Uncle Phatso

Mid-Card Championship Winner
Personally I've been nothing short of impressed with Cody's new charicter. I enjoyed Dashing, but I love the new charicter he has made for himself. His promo's are solid, and his ring work is ever improving. He was allredy solid in the ring, but with his match at mania stealing the show in my mind. He is constantly impressing me more and more.

We now have Christian in the Main event I guess as a heel, Sheamus, and Mark Henry. In reality if Cody were to move into the ME someone would have to lose. Because if Orton were to keep on his "winning streak" 4 top level heels with no one else in sight to take over their reigns would be pretty shitty.

I like the Idea of a Cody and Orton program. We have former history, face Vs heel. Both are great in the ring, and I would just love to see Cody's mic time on smackdown in the ME.

So give your 2 cents on it.

I personally think he will be in the ME within the next 3-5 months.

I say three to five months at the latest. Cody Rhodes already has all the skills needed to be a main eventer. He's easily the best mic guy on Smackdown right now, and there's nobody who even comes close to him. Every promo he cuts is worth listening to, and some are promo of the year candidates.

He's not the best in ring competitor on Smackdown, but I'd put him in the top five. His wrestling style is hard to describe, but if I had to I'd say it's a modern take on old school wrestling. He does a lot of traditional psychology, but it's all very fluid, and he mixes in some flashier moves, like the Flare Kick and his fantastic moonsault. Another thing he does is mix in some aspects of his past wrestling career, like using former tag team partner Bob Holly's Alabama Slam.

I think it's only a matter of time before Cody and Orton face off, and that will easily be Cody's biggest feud of his career thus far. Their history all but ensures that they will face each other at some point, and with Cody's rapid development into a top performer, there's no better time than the present to set these two at odds with each other. Look for Cody to be one of Orton's next world title opponents after Randy is done with Christian.

Cody may be getting a slower gradual push like Shawn Michaels or Bret Hart got. Where it took them a little bit to finally get in the main event scene and once he does, it'll be a big pay off. Cody Rhodes definitely has the right tools and athletic ability to be in the main event scene. His gimmick and character are both unmatched especially in an era where heel gimmicks are usually blurred together. I'll go ahead and bet Cody wins the Intercontinental Championship before winning the World Championship or even heading into the main event. If I had my way, a quick title feud would be enough to launch him into the main event, even if he loses. I'll say by the Money in the Bank PPV, Cody will likely win the match and carry around that breifcase for a little while. If not, somewhere after next years Wrestlemania.

Oh I totaly agree, I'm glad they aren't pushing him as a second generation star to the top. I enjoy his push and he kind of floundered as Dashing, but it was still a good buildup. It's kind of amazing what a freak accident will do huh? Cody gets his nose broke and gets to run this this awsome charicter. He has worked his ass off to get to ware he is today. He has completly improved since his days with Bob and Legacy. Only good things can come if he gets into the main event and runs with it.

Personally I think that in Cody's case the Smackdown team is just waiting for MITB to happen. His feud with Sin Cara cannot be a permanent feud as Cody has long transcended the midcard and he isn't in the position to play the superior role in a starmaking feud yet.

He is the perfect guy to win the MITB for the blue brand at this point. After that it is just a matter of time before he enters the main event. I cannot see why Cody shouldn't feud with Orton just after his feud with Christian gets over. Surely no one wants to see Orton vs Mark Henry while Sheamus vs Orton has already been done.

Orton vs Cody would be fun to see as not only are the two of them former stablemates but they are also two very dark characters. I expect some intense matches and promos from them.

Cody is still not the best in the ring as of yet, he is not bad, just flashy and working with an experienced guy like Randy could help him a lot. On the mic though he is ready to take on all comers at this point.

It will not take that long as some of us are expecting.
Randy Orton is feuding with Christian, but after that he will not feud against Sheamus, because they already did it last year, which was not a long time ago in the main event scene.
I don't believe that they will make him feud with Mark Henry at SummerSlam, so Cody Rhodes all they way...

Bottom line Cody Rhodes will be main eventing in two/three months top..

I'm going with FutureShock on this one. We just recently saw Sheamus vs. Orton for the gold on Smackdown, so odds of them running another program aren't so great. Pretty much leaves Henry or Cody, unless Christian carries this feud for a few months a la Batista vs. Taker, which I doubt will keep interest. Have to give Cody's shot at the Main Event somewhere in 2 or 3 months tops, unless someone major comes to Smackdown out of the blue, like Chris Jericho.

6 months tops but I'm hoping 2 or 3.

Cody Rhodes is a great heel and has an awesome character. He connects with the fans as a heel and puts on great matches every week. His current feud with DBD I'm hoping will elevate both men even though I want DBD to come out on top (Smackdown needs more top faces at the moment.) His matches are on the list of ones I just lay there and watch. No bathroom break no getting up for anything he entertains me that much and that's what WWE needs in a Main Event wrestler.

Everything else I could say has been said so I'll leave it at that.

I think it will happen pretty soon. We have MITB coming up next month on PPV and Rhodes has been on a roll lately. He might take home the blue briefcase. If it's not at MITB then it will probably happen sometime this fall because he has history with Orton and the two would put on a great main event level feud. I think it will happen through a MITB cash in towards the end of summer.

Soon. Very soon. He's looking like the favorite to win Money in the Bank, when he finally does, he'll be set in the main event. Cody has a good character, good charisma, interesting in ring, great on the mic, he's really the complete package. A feud between him and Orton would not only legitimize him some more, but it would be interesting. They have that history, you know? It would be interesting to see how they address that and how much chemistry they have together in the ring. They would definitely put on interesting matches and if Cody got a win or two, it would instantly make him a threat to the world title.

It might be kind of a vague answer, but one more solid feud should do it. He obviously has all of the tools to be a major star in the WWE, especially on Smackdown, where he is guaranteed to get more mic time than on Raw. I'd like to say that his current feud with Daniel Bryan (maybe also Sin Cara?) will be enough to put him over the top, but the ambiguity of it so far leaves that uncertain. They can surely put on awesome matches, and Cody can easily carry the mic work between them, but they seem too desperate to stick Sin Cara in there and screw the whole thing up. Cody's character is definitely main-event worthy, I just think he needs a little more momentum.

Cody has been the shining star on SD for how many months now? The guy's mic work is top notch and is ring work is amongst the best on the blue brand. I've always preferred Cody more than Dibiase and I'm glad things are paying off for Cody. I think this feud with DB and Sin Cara is just to give Cody something to do. With MITB coming up in June I believe that it could be Cody's time to shine. We then can see a slow build and potential teases of Cody cashing in before he finally does so. Thus ending the reign of his former mentor, Randy Orton. I just hope we don't see Cody pushed down to benefit someone like Ted Dibiase (some tension in their promo tonight) to get back into the spotlight.

It is only a matter of time. Cody Rhodes has been impressing me as each Smackdown! comes. He cuts some excellent promos and has the crowd hating him because of his paper bags.

I'd say that he'll need to feud with a pretty good face before he can get into the Main Event scene. Someone better than Daniel Bryan or Sin Cara. Or you know what, screw what I said, just get rid of Mark Henry then Cody is inserted into the ME scence :D

I hope some people don't take this thread the wrong way, as I'm just subjecting my own personal opinion and the question, so don't send me any hate mail or death threats.

Cody Rhodes has gone from being a stale competitor in the faction Legacym covered by the shadow of Randy Orton and somewhat if we're to be honest, Ted DiBiase. Back during Legacy, if they were to disband most people would have had their money on Ted making it big while Cody stuck to the mid-card. Then arrived the persona, of "Dashing" Cody Rhodes.

Rhodes played a character who believed in his own good looks, performing promos where he would offer advice and tips to men about grooming. Rhodes began to show some signs that the once stale competitor had now began to show his true colors. All the while, reports said Vince thought Cody "over-played" everything on-screen.

Cody was and still is a mid-card wrestler, but then came the storyline which has seen many people offer him praise and plaudits. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes became "Disfigured" Cody Rhodes. Rhodes legitimately broke his nose and missed two months of television time, including the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber.

Upon his return he seemed to be playing a role which seems to be described as a clashing of the Phantom of The Opera and the character of Patrick Batemen from "American Psycho", hiding his face and talking with a drawl, saying that he was no-longer "Dashing" and that he was now tormented.

So for the past few months, "Disfigured" Cody Rhodes has been rising-and-rising. But the reasoning for my post is, am I the only person that thinks although he's doing well, he isn't doing as well as some make out to be?

The character is cool and all, but is he really going to break into the main event scene as quick as some are saying? He'll make it their eventually in my opinion, but oddly enough some are stating they think he'll be in it by SummerSlam and I even read in a post earlier in the week that someone thought he'd be World Heavyweight Champion by the end of the Summer.

So my questions are...

Do you think Rhodes is as good as some are making him out to be?

When do you see him breaking into the main picture on Smackdown?

When do you honestly see him becoming World Heavyweight Champion?

1st: No, I think he`s better than hes made out to be.

2nd: i say sometime tis fall-early winter via briefcase. though he is capable of winning without it.

3rd: this question sounds like you mean ever, umm i think i`ve already answered that in my prev answers.

you make good points but i cant help but think you havent said why you dont want to see him there sooner rather than later. . . I also dont think its that fast cause lets look at the roster today. Cody has been there 4 years not counting time with OVW, so though not a vetran by any means hes sure been there longer than most : mcyntire, sheamus, bennet, delrio, DB, A-ry, ziggler, bourne, dibiase, sin cara, etc.

P:S i agree with most everything thats been said in this thread so far.

Personally, I beleive Cody is allready Main Event material, especially considering the lack of big names on SmackDown. Regardless of who wins the World Heavyweight Championship at Capitol Punishment, I see the Christian-Orton fued going on to the next pay-per-view, wher i expect RKO to come out on top. I think that will set up Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes for the World Title at Summerslam.

Cody Rhodes, at the moment is the most engaging character in the WWE at the moment. I would also like to see Ted DiBiase used more often as a legitimate competitor, not just Cody's sidekick.

Cody Rhodes has some big shoes to fill. His father was one of the greatest champions of his time. He is certainly doing well so far, and he has quickly gotten over with a fresh gimmick. I think that's park of the reason the IWC likes this guys. He is getting over with a gimmick that we haven't seen in awhile. Its nice to see.

For now though Cody is just a mid carder. Let's see how the fued with Daniel Bryan goes.

I was so high on Cody Rhodes during his feud with Rey Mysterio. Unfortunately, I believe the WWE has run this "Disfigured" and "De-formed" angle far too long. I mean WHY THE F*CK is he still wearing the mask??????? We can all see his face is fine! This paper bag thing has run its course and now his promo's are just getting boring and predictable.

If Cody drops the mask and just continues to be a heel, I think he would have much better chance at getting into the ME, the mask just doesnt do it for me, when it's very clear to see his face is fine.

I agree with everybody on here. Rhodes' work ever since he went to Smackdown last year has been phenomenal. He is great in-ring worker, and he works hard. His promos are funny and entertaining. He has the whole package. He will be a world champion one day for sure. I think he will win the Smackdown Money in the Bank Ladder Match as well. It won't be very long until he rises to the main event on Smackdown.
