I'm a bit late watching the episodes, but I've got a few things to say.
Well, those two episodes right there are why I love that show. HIMYM is on CBS, so it gets a lot of unwarranted crap from people, but the fact is it's way better than the likes of Two and a Half Men and the Big Bang Theory, because HIMYM actually has likeable characters, it has heart that those other two shows simply do not have. It may not be as laugh-out-loud funny as Its Always Sunny, or Community, but I care more about the characters in HIMYM than I do in almost any other sitcom (the only exception probably being Parks and Rec.)
Barney and Robin going through the process of finding out if they're cousins from their Canadian relatives was probably the highlight of the two episodes, with some genuine laugh out loud moments. We saw Barney's half-brother again, which is always welcome. And, though I didn't think Robin and Barney would go through with the wedding at the end of last season, I've changed my mind having seen the season premier(s).
The Mother seems so likeable, and, even though they only shared the screen for half a minute, seems to have great chemistry with Ted. Lily and Marshall have really good lives as is, and they'll obviously come to some compromise about the Italy/Judge job situation, so that's probably the story arc I'm least interested in.
Having a whole season take place over the space of 60 or so hours is a great idea, and with a load of guest stars reportedly returning for these episodes, I think it's going to be a great last season for one of TV's best sitcoms.
