How I Met Your Mother

We see Ted heading to the wedding disbelieving all that Ted is, believing in Karma, romance and stuff, I think finally at the wedding when he sees at how many crucial junctures the mother has been, ye that will be the payoff.

Well, another mother of a mystery has been solved, just days after CBS’ How I Met Your Mother raised the curtain on the titular lady.

Series cocreator Carter Bays previously revealed that as HIMYM unspools its ninth and final season, viewers will become “much better” acquainted with Cristin Milioti’s bass-playing cutie – whom we first and briefly laid eyes on at the close of the Season 8 finale — as the show tells “the epic story of the longest wedding weekend ever.”

CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler has now confirmed for TVLine that Season 9′s entire run will, in fact, span the wedding weekend and just the wedding weekend, as the comedy details “how each character, before Ted, meets the mother. So, they each meet her independently before he does.”

Hopefully, she makes a good first impression on each!

Milioti — whose casting was kept top-secret using fake episode titles and a largely closed set during taping — is familiar to New York theatergoers as the breakout star of the acclaimed musical Once.

Not too sure how I feel about this. I wanna see how everyone's lives plays out (e.g. Marshall being a judge, will Lily go to Italy?, Robin and Barney stuff). However, it will be very interesting to see how they make us care for the mother if this season is all about the weekend wedding. Why do I get a feeling that Ted marries the mother right away in a small wedding, it just fits. Ted's been hasty to get married early on in the seasons and it looks like it'll be right in his alley to propose to the mother rather quick. Should be interesting to see how the last season goes.

I think Ted and The Mother will finally meet, at the end of the of the last episode and then after they meet, there will probably be a "flashforward" closing montage "A few years later" or something like that, and they'll show what happens with each character.

I've heard too much of next season for it all to be true.

All I hope for is an above average ending and they finally tell us what Barney does. Is that too much to ask for?

What we know about Season 9 so far (from the producers):

1. The entire season will pick up immediately after the season 8 finale (10 AM Friday, 56 hours before the wedding). The season will encompass the wedding weekend.

2. The mother WILL be a regular cast member

3. All of the main characters will meet, and/or interact with the The Mother in some way, before Ted does.

I think the idea of the whole season based on the wedding weekend is clever. But...... I think they should do 4 episodes one for each main character besides Ted on meeting the mother and interacting with her the 5th episode should be the wedding with it ending on Ted finally meeting the mother then the rest of season should be Ted getting engaged and finally his wedding and the last episode should be you seeing everyone grown up knowing what they are doing and have a huge bombshell dropped right at the end to leave us all like holy ...... What just happened and the season over

I don't how this is going to work.

They have built three plot lines for the last season - Ted's meeting the mother, Marshall's a judge, and Barney and Robin's wedding. Ted meets the mom after the wedding's over based on previous episodes. Marshall hasn't told Lily about accepting the job as judge, which could have an easy conclusion - Lily goes to Italy for a year and Marshall stays in NYC to be a judge. Then you have Robin and Barney's wedding, which I believe isn't going to happen. There has to be some other plot line other than Ted meeting the mom for six months.

I think that the wedding doesn't happen, Ted leaves before the wedding's over and meets the mother - only for Ted to find out that Robin's not married and she confesses that feelings are potentially there for her as far as their relationship is concerned.

It makes sense and would keep folks watching to see how it turns out.

I read an interview with the producers of the show a good while back in which they stated that they have had the end game for the show mapped out for years, so I, for one, am just willing to let it unfold. Can't wait for next season.

There's an interview from Carter Bays right after the first episode of season 8 aired where he said that Barney and Robin ultimately do get married. BUT it could be a situation where they don't get married at this wedding. It could get called off and then they show us that they got married some time later. Future Ted did say the wedding went horribly wrong so I guess we'll see.

I'm trying to find that interview and I'll post it if I do.

If I were a writer, I'd say anything and everything to throw off my fan base. It's entirely possible that he's saying that Robarney will end up married just to throw us off the scent of something completely different.

I may be over-thinking on this subject though. Either way, I hope next season makes up for the last couple in terms of overall quality of writing and commitment to the characters.

After only the two-part premiere, I am already convinced that this is going to be one of the sweetest, most unique seasons in the history of television. To say that I am incredibly stoked in the direction they're going in this final season would be an understatement. Last night's episode(s) were absolutely terrific. The only thing I wasn't digging was the Marshall/black lady scenario, but even if that ends up being totally weak, I think Ted's journey these next 50+ hours will completely trounce any kind of negativity.

Also, as soon as I laid my eyes on her at the end of last season I knew I was going to love the casting of the mother, and thus far, she has not at all disappointed.

Finally! I was looking for this thread.

Anyway, season 9's premiere was such a beauty to watch. I loved everything about it especially the stuff with Barney and Robin possibly being related, it was too funny. If this was any indication of how the season would go, season 9 might be the best season yet. Absolutely love the mother! The sum 'bitches bit with the mother and Lily was awesome as well. There wasn't anything that I didn't like, I even liked the Marshall/black woman bit, it wasn't the best but it was enjoyable to say the least.

Overall, I hope this season really picks up and shows everyone that How I Met Your Mother isn't overrated.

I initially opposed the "whole season over a weekend" concept, on the idea that after 8 seasons of watching Ted NOT find the mother, that he deserved an entire season of courtship as a payoff. However, if they continue to use the flash forward with future Ted and future mother, as they visit the same inn and look back, maybe it will be okay. One year from now Ted can be the happy one.

Maybe we don't need the courtship. Maybe they find each other and it doesn't need to be complicated or entertaining. They just meet and fall in love and nothing else matters to the Ted. It's kind of hokey, but this show has been hokey for a long time.

I enjoyed last night. Some of the jokes fell flat but overall it was fun. The wife seems too good for Ted. My favorite part was probably the surprise Barney left Ted in his room at the end of the episode. The table scene with the mother was especially sweet. I really commend the writers for doing some sweet stuff over the past couple years. Not sure I like where this locket thing is going but I have faith in writers that they will keep me guessing and not frustrate me too much with Ted's hang ups.

How do they do it? How do they manage to stay funny funny after 9 seasons?

That whole Barney and Robin maybe cousins bit was hilarious. Very well done. Lily and Ted have always had great comedic chemistry and the mother's first interaction was very well done.

Yeah I pretty much echo what all you guys have said. I was extremely skeptical about whether they could pull off framing the entire season around the wedding, but so far it's been really well done.

The Mother (does she have a name yet?) is adorable and played off Lily really well, so here's hoping her interactions with the rest of the group are just as great.

That was amazing. I have always believed that HIMYM is a show that is good at making people smile rather that making them laugh, and the first two episodes did just that. The whole Ted story was very good and the whole build up will have people rooting for him to finally meet the mother.

Awesome pair of episodes to start us off on the final season. I can see now that the mother is gonna fit right in with the rest of the main cast, time will tell but I think they knocked it out of the part finding the right mother for Ted, everything about her just screams Ted's dream girl. I wasn't a big fan of the Robin/Barney same cousin storyline, or Marshall's storyline altogether this week (although it did give some funny bits) but all in all very well done.

It's also nice to see how much Barney has grown up throughout the length of the series. From little things like not waiting for legendary and being completely unfazed by James' divorce makes it seem like he's met the right person in Robin, you know there's gonna be uncertainty by both but when it comes it will be a lot more justified as he's not freaking out about little things. The scene with Ted and the Mother was touching and set up the final season nicely.

I can't wait for the rest of the series!

Yeah it looks like they're going for Robin as being the one who freaks out and questions the wedding rather than Barney, which is a nice change-up from the norm.

I just hope they don't drag the Ted/Robin thing out too long, we know how it ends, and we've had to put up with mopey Ted through most of Season 8. I was a big advocate of Ted/Robin throughout the series, but they grinded it into dust at this point.

The Barney/ Robin story was a bit reminiscent of the episode where Marshall and Lily imagine each other as their dads. Still, it was very good with both Neil and Cobie at the top of their game. The Game of Thrones reference was the icing on the cake.

Cristin is adorable. She is a lot like Ted, except possibly a bit smarter. She looks a lot like Lily, to be honest. It just felt like they were two sisters during the train ride.

Ted does not look to be completely over Robin, EVEN AFTER 9 FREAKING SEASONS!!! But I guess that is why we love that guy. His first scene with Cristin was amazing. Is it too early to say that Ted hasn't had better chemistry with anyone else? Probably, but I''ll say so anyway. I think that it is fair to say that I'll get goosebumps when they finally meet. I'd love it if something Cristin says leads to Ted breaking up with Robin.

Did not like the Marshall/ Daphne story. Marshall getting duped is an old story though I guess Segal was endearing as always.

Good start. Should be an awesome season.

Good start to the season.

Future Ted said that the wedding changed everyone's lives and in an earlier episode he called it "the wedding that went horribly wrong." So, it will be interesting to see what exactly plays out regarding the wedding.

Regarding the mother, I thought her first interaction was good. Moving forward I'm curious to see how she meets all the other characters before Ted (producers confirmed she will meet all other main characters before finally meeting Ted at the train station).

So is the Mother actually going to the wedding or not? That's the only part I was confused about. I mean I guess she doesn't know anyone unless she's somehow been invited as a +1 of some random cousin of Barney or Robin.

It's been said in previous seasons that she plays bass in the band at the reception.

She plays bass guitar in the wedding band. That's her connection to the wedding
