Honmania looks to be dead

Shadowmancer

I am The Last Baron
Translation & Summary:

Ichiki (who's been living with Honma for 18 years) claims that, a month ago, both she and Honma went to a local restaurant where they had bumped into a woman who said she had dated Honma four years ago. Apparently this encounter inflated Honma's ego as a ladies' man.

This encounter made Ichiki upset, as she had recently suffered a bout of depression after Honma recently appeared on TV declaring his love to pop star Tomomi Kahala, even though he was still involved romantically with Ichiki. Ichiki had a copy of her doctor's evaluation for her depression, which she claims Honma dismissed by saying: "Anyone can get a doctor's note."

After returning home from the restaurant, the couple got into an argument, with Honma reacting quite violently to her. Ichiki, believing that she went too far, attempted to bow to Honma on her knees to plead for forgiveness (a Japanese gesture to express deep shame for one's actions). Ichiki claims that Honma then kicked her upwards in the head when she knelt down.

Ichiki's mother happened to be present at the scene, and tried to bow with her daughter to make Honma stop. Ichiki claims that Honma does not believe violence is bad. Honma, upon seeing Ichiki's mother bow to her knees, is said to have shouted: "How the hell did you raise your kid this way?"

Ichiki is upset that a man who she used to support and who recipricated her love could have screamed at her that night with: "It's thanks to me that you have food on the table!"

Ichiki claims that their Domestic Violence issues first began four years ago.

Ichiki claims she had previously been dragged through the hallway and had her head struck, losing consciousness. Even though Honma has immediately apologized with tears after such episodes of abuse, promising that it wouldn't happen again, the violence was a recurring event in the household. They have called the police before to deal with their issues. Nowadays Honma would call the police directly - Ichiki said he felt that the police could put an end to their never-ending disputes.

Ichiki is considering splitting up with Honma. The deciding factor for wanting to split was not the physical abuse, but Honma's verbal tirades.

Ichiki finds it difficult to say goodbye to a man she had lived with for 18 years. They both own a dog they both cherish, but Ichiki claims Honma has even shouted at the dog, threatening to take the dog to a shelter. She cannot stand Honma treating their pet like that.

looks like Domestic Violence, sounds like domestic violence, most likely domestic violence. This is coming from a Japanese Paper and was translated and summarized by someone on Wreddit. Does not look good for Honma.

I sort of wonder if this is something to do with CTE coming through but then again I am not an expert.

But with how New Japan reacted to Taichi's affair being made public and suspending him.

This will have no impact on his career. Kensuke Sasaki killed someone and continued to get bigger and bigger pushes. Japanese culture is weird, and very patriarchal so I imagine this won't effect his booking at all. Might miss some dates for court if a case is brought up, that's about it. Nobody in a position of power in New Japan is going to care frankly.

The man has a famous spot of diving headbutts, people. Missing like 90 % of them in fact. Ask Benoit how that worked out.

Different ownership group now, They suspended Taichi due to his affair, this is much worse than an affair.

It's a very different situation. First of all, Sasaki has never been charged or directly blamed for the death of Gompei, although it's common belief that Sasaki roughed him up in the dojo which led to the kid's death, it's never actually been proven. Also, if the rumors are to be believed, Sasaki wasn't intending to kill him. I think he was angry at Gompei for not training hard enough and ended up performing real wrestling moves on him which ended up killing him. But wrestling was also very different back in these days. There were thousands of stories of wrestling trainers that would break their student's limbs right off the bat to see if they were cut out for the business. I think Foley actually tells a story of Inoki (or someone else) breaking his leg and leaving him in the ring after he asked to be trained. Wrestling training was very rough in the 80s and 90s and while Sasaki may have went a bit far, I don't think he was attempting to kill anybody.

Honma just seems to be on the route to being a psychopath. It's all those fucking headbutts he does, I'm telling you. Beating the crap out of your wife multiple times, signals a violence problem.

While this may not effect his push too much, New Japan should seriously think about getting his brain looked at.

This is disappointing because Honma's one of the guys from New Japan that I hold a genuine interest in. His lovable loser gimmick has been phenomenal.

Honma called the offices of the magazine responsible for the Ichiki interview immediately after its publication:

Honma wants to set the record straight since Ichiki has been trying to spread her story to the national television program Honma is featured in.

Honma denies all of Ichiki's accusations of domestic violence: "There is no way I would hit another person."

Honma claims that her doctor's note (about her depression) was actually for injuries suffered on her arms and legs because she tends to drink alcohol heavily and bang her limbs off things.

Honma claims that the situation is actually reversed, in that four years ago, it was actually Ichiki who began to commit acts of domestic violence against him. He says Ichiki was playing innocent during the interview, and that in reality Ichiki can be foul-mouthed and violent.

Honma claims that he has had to put up with Ichiki's domestic violence all this time, suffering strikes to the head on multiple occasions.

Honma admits to having shoved Ichiki away when the domestic violence from her went too far. He also admits to having strongly gripped Ichiki's wrists on one occasion.

On Ichiki's claim of losing consciousness at the hands of Honma's violence: "Yes, I remember, I remember. She came at me and started punching my face violently, so I tried to dodge her blows. When I did, she hit her head very hard against the wall. I went to the hospital with her too, afterwards. She is claiming that I put my hands on her first. What I actually did was just dodging her in self-defence."

Honma denies ever shouting abuse to Ichiki's family. Instead, Honma claims that Ichiki's has shouted abuse at her own parents.

On Ichiki's claim of Honma shouting at her dog: "I admit I argued about the dog once. I was on a wrestling tour in Hiroshima and I had a quarrel with Ichiki about our dogs. She demanded that I take care of them and said she was bringing our two dogs all the way to Hiroshima from Tokyo. I told her that there was no point in bringing the dogs to Hiroshima since we were just having an argument. That's all that was, the one time I argued about the dogs."

Ichiki's response to Honma's accusations: "The way he talks about it is very convenient, isn't it? He says that it was always me who started the domestic violence, but I've never even thought of acting violent towards him. His claim of me drinking was in relation to the Nagoya wrestling tour I joined him on a few days ago. Any moment of domestic violence before then, I have not had a drop of alcohol. My claim about him shouting abuse at my family are absolutely true. I have written records of what he has said."

This should be Honma on the receiving end

Honma responded claiming the only time he ever laid hands on her was in self defense. Who knows who to believe, but it's not like the woman has any proof. Domestic abuse is a tricky issue.

As I thought though, this story did nothing to affect Honma's standing in the company. None of the Japanese wrestling papers even picked the story up and Honma just won the Tag League finals in a big moment and is continuing to be pushed, so Honmamania is alive and well and just fine as I predicted.
