Holly & Rhodes: RAW's Next Great Tag Team!

Im still undecided on this. Holly is a legend, always had a liking for him, was great to see him come back to RAW.
I guess Rhodes is in a good position, with the father he has I'm sure thats got a bit of pull around the WWE and will no doubt help Cody's career get further than on his own.
I like the respect angle, providing you use the right stars. Holly is definitely someone they can use as the veteran, and I do think Rhodes has skill and does a good job of taking a beating.
They will no doubt make them the champs soon and I don;t think I could say I dislike the idea.

You know, at first I wasn't too game for this, but after seeing tonight's Raw (10/15/07) I can see some potential. Holly's not the most gifted veteran that they have in their ranks but he has nothing else to do, so why not? They put on a decent match aside from all the quick pins, but they kept up the energy, which is something a LOT of matches lately have been lacking. Rhodes is still very green and has no real gimmick, so putting him in this angle will give him some exposure outside of winning pointless matches against Daivari.

Despite Holly not being the most "inspirational" or powerful, I could see the team working where Rhodes is the energy and Holly is the "brute", and after Cody earns his respect, Holly shifts gears towards being a rather forceful and strict teacher. For a while, you have the two teaming up with Holly giving Rhodes pointers on various things and drilling him rather hard in a positive way until he feels that Rhodes has developed enough. Then, rather than take it the Carlito/Flair route and have the pupil turn heel and attack the mentor in arrogance, flip it the opposite way: Holly out of nowhere clotheslines Rhodes with the theory that Cody's final test is one more match against him - if Cody beats Holly, he's passed and can move on, but if he loses, Holly's failed his job. Naturally, in a story like that, Rhodes would have to win. By this time, though, he'd be prime for the Intercontinental title picture. Holly can fade into obscurity after that lol.

I can very much see why this angle works.

Holly may not be a legend but he is a veteran with a reouation for havign respect in the locker room and being a stiff worker. He's breaking in the new guy. this is like the old days of wrestling. The rookie coming in and earning his place. who better to work with him thean a rough ring veteran? It's going to make him good.
I think the WWE sees potential in RHodes and and doesn't want him to be soft. What's wrong with Holly toughening him up?

I think this will turn Holly face. He's going to start giving Rhodes credit then people will start getting behind him. Htey may not work well as a team but really the tag divison is kind of weak anyway.

I think in the end this will help Cody more than hurt him.

I agree that if Cody doesn't make a drastic character move that he will be in the street. I think that Hardcore and Cody teaming up is going in the wrong direction. I'm already not impressed with Cody. I believe he is only on Raw due to his Daddy. What really does Cody Rhodes have to offer besides his last name? He only does a handful of moves.

All wrestlers have a "handful" of moves so it's kind of irrelevant to use that against Cody. While I agree that adding a bit more personality to Cody would be good, I think he's fine in the role he has now.

I think Cody has a lot of charisma, and he usually gets a decent pop. I think only people on the IWC seem to have a thing against Cody... and I don't really understand why.

Holly and Cody as a tag team? It might be possible, and I wouldn't be against it. I've said all along that Holly could help Cody a lot.

Rather have Cody team with a younger star, perhaps Shelton Benjamin or someone from the developments. I hate Hardcore Holly, he is a backstage bully and has never really gotten over with anyone, I was almost happy when Lesnar injured Holly(all because Holly was too stubborn to lose to a rookie)

Hell, stick Rhodes with Val Venis, least Val can wrestle and gets a decent pop from the crowd. Or even stick him with William regal, Rhodes and Regal, kinda has a ring to it ;)

This, in my opinion, is one of the worst things I've ever heard. These two aren't related in any way (in the true sense of the word, not just a brothers or something like that) their styles are different, they don't seem to gel as a team in my mind... I think they should develop Cody for a while on Heat (he and Harry Smith could put on a kick ass match) then send him into the mid card on SmackDown. But no, we need another shit Hardcore Holly team. Holly/Hass: didn't work. Holly/Gunn: didn't work. Holly/Rhodes: Won't work.

I love it. it's a good way to get Rhodes some serious in ring training from someone the likes of Hardcore while at the same time build him up for the RAW fans who already know and respect Holly. Maybe they can get a run with the belts if/when they become a team. Then they can break up, maybe Cody can become a heel and say he's been carrying Holly. thoughts?

I don't think anyone respects Holly, especially the smark fans who saw what he was like on Tough Enough and the antics with Brock Lesnar. I respect Val, he has shut up, got on with putting whoever over and he is ahppy doing so

speak for yourself when you say that...how can anyone not respect holly..holly has earned his respect in that company he is a veteran..just because he is a stiff wrestler and potrays wrestling as real as possible doesnt put negativity on him...holly and rhodes is a good thing if played right...so far ive liked the angle they have potrayed with rhodes trying to earn hollys respect..everyone knows how long holly has been with the company and a newcomer like rhodes going up against holly is a type of initation...this has potential written all aroudn it...it will build rhode as a character overall and like the majority say and complain about let the newcomers make the future and that is whaty they are showing here...if they become a tag team it will b even better..the veteran with the rookie..showing him the ropes letting him know whats good int he business etc..its way to early to start criticizing this angle and isnt fair to compare it to past tagteams holly has been in...

in belfast last night Holly and Rhodes fought Cade and Murdoch in a tag team match and to be brutally honest Holly carried the team. Cody was okay but it was obvious he lacked experience. there was no team work between the two at all but obviously it is early days and this will improve...if the WWE pursue the angle.

WWE is just trying to push the fact that it is now known that Bob is unprofessional to the beginners at WWE. It's been a fact known in public territory for quite some time.

I don't like this at all. Holly has been in the company for so long, but he still gets a very small pop. Holly continues to wrestle on the premier show of WWE (And yes I do accept that he's actually a talented wrestler... just one with zero charisma) while people such as Scotty 2 Hotty get released (and he always got a large pop).

To be honest I remember seeing on wrestlezone one night before I caught a replay of raw that a "Big Return" was in order...so I tuned into the show very eager.....to see Hardcore Holly return to the ring. My instinct was disappointment.

But someone already made the most intelligent point on here in regards to the pending team of hollyrhodes...that being, (drum roll) the new age outlaws actually worked. I think this fact alone discredits all of us hahaha. We have no fuckin clue except for when Khali is bashed.

But seriously anything can work with the right timing. If anything I'd have to concur that Rhodes jr. is very fuckin green and teaming with a veteran would only do well to help him out.

But I do think Hardcore should be in ECW at least.

I wouldnt mind seeing a tag team of rhodes and holly for the forseeable future. I would rather see tag gold around their waist than two stupid rednecks, a couple of irish losers, or k & l(only cause i dont like london). A legend and a rookie makes for all kinds of possibilities. I think when this is done people will have more respect for holly and rhodes. This is a start to giving the tag division a major fresh start.

If they really want to build up Cody. I think at this point to gain experience as quickly as possible he needs to be paired up with a vet. Even if it's not for too long. Holly is a perfect vet. for Rhodes to team up with. It'll keep him down at a lower to mid card stance while he builds himself up. If he was paired with say HHH he'd be main eventing with HHH in some tag team match. Holly has a lot of respect and has shown time and time again how much he loves the buisness. So I think that Holly can really show Cody a thing or two that will really help him in the future.

I was at BOTH belfast house shows over the weekend and Cody and hardcore teamed both nights, with last night being a Tag title match as a reward for winning on friday. After their loss last night, Cody helped hardcore to his feet. Now I, and a few others around me were expecting hardcore to kick lumps out of cody but he did the whole raising arm thing so it looks as if this could have some future.

I see this working for both of them. Think about it. It might not be the best storyline, but it's a storyline. They're both getting some well deserved TV time. I'm not saying I want them to win the Tag Titles, cause that would kinda ruin the story they got going, but I think having Bob Holly as a memtor could actually do good. Keeping in mind it's all Scripted. The kids watching at home think Bob Holly is a legit Badass that trains rookies. Or some shit like that.

Personally I think its a cool tag-team, I dont read deeply into things or compare this Carlito/Flair, too me its a clever storyline and it gives Cody a good mentor.

I wasnt impressed when I first heard the idea and im not impressed now. The team seems boring with no charisma. Rhodes cant talk, has no gimic and cant wrestle, Holly cant talk, has no gimic and cant wrestle so I cant see anything good about the team at all.

As I said before Mick Foley would be a better mentor/tag partner for Rhodes. Though Foleys lost alot of his popularity him teaming up with Rhodes would still intrest the fans. And a bit of a push and a tag title run leading up to a feud with Cody Rhodes would be a great way for Foley to finally retire from wrestling.

But with Holly...theres nothing whatsoever to intrest people. Maybe they should give the team a monkey as manager like they were gonna do with Eugene and Holly before Eugenes release....

i agree they both don't offer much. They should just be a good crowd opener at events and show the match's on heat. They're not exciting enough for mainstream tv. And good point on how they can't talk either, not enough character for both of them.

in the case of holly and rhodes i thinl its a great idea and they should turn them heel ..... it could possibly set up a feud with dx or it could lead to cade and murdoch going to singles its good to see new tag team push ...

To be completely honest... I think that Holly and Rhodes would make a great tag-team, and I'd be rooting for them all the way. Thing is, though, in order for them to actually get the Tag Team Championship, they'd have to beat Cade and Murdoch, which (right now) I don't see happening. Maybe later, after the two have had a chance to actually work together against some opponents, but definitely not now. Besides, Cody Rhodes is still kind of new at the RAW game, even if he has defeated a bunch of wrestlers that even Hardcore Holly thought he'd lose against.

Actually cody is suppose to be able to deliver promos like is father. i believe they haven't given him much mic time yet where he is new. you can't have someone taking smack or anything right away with out seeing their skills on TV either in TNA or WWE. Only way that is done if they been around a while. The rock was the greatest on the mic but don't get to show it much at the beginning.

hardcore can wrestle and I think it is a great idea with these two tagging. you will see. give it a while and you will like where this is going

I have to disagree on this , They will not be a great Raw tag team.
Cody Rhodes hasnt proven to me that he has any good talent.
Cody Rhodes just gets an push because of his last name and because wwe is terrible at the moment.
I agree Hardcore Holly can be a great tag champ but Rhodes no>

After a couple of weeks of watching this little program with high hopes, I've decided it's time to just have Cody turn heel on Holly, feud with him for a while and eventually, in a couple months, I'd still like to see Cody become Orton's protoge, ya know, multigenerational team so to speak. Maybe Orton could start a new Evolution if Triple H remains face.. even if Trip's was a heel, he could be the legend of the gang, Orton the current star, Rhodes the up and comer and get someone else in there as the Batista/Body guard. I think it could be cool, any thoughts?
