Holly & Rhodes: RAW's Next Great Tag Team!

A.J.

SmackDown! is MY Show
From Wz.com
As noted before, Hardcore Holly moved to Raw last week. He defeated Cody Rhodes in his first night back. The plan is to build towards a Holly & Rhodes tag team. They will then feud with Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch over the tag team belts.

This sounds like the whole Flair and Carlito angle all over again. Im ean Rhodes will be trying to earn Hollys respect each time they go out and what not. I just don't see the point in them forming a team over this earning respect angle. Though I guess its a way to get Holly and Cody in a decent program but it seems like WWE still doesn't care about the tag division i mean this seems to leave out L&K and the highlanders. Oh well maybe this interesting pairing or not.

I feel that Rhodes and Holly won't go togather as a tag team. With Holly being a Heel... I doubt Rhodes will turn Heel. I think Cody should move on and get away from the tag team division. He should move on and feud with Jeff Hardy for the IC title. That would be a dream. Hardcore Holly is still a great technical wrestler, don't get me wrong but I hope that this tag team wont happen...:eek3:

Holly is a thing of the past in my oppinion, I remember him back in his feuds with Al Snow over the hardcore title and etc, but now that we have no Hardcore division (Something I hate) I see no real point for him to continue being on the show.

this will work for the simple reason that Rhodes needs to build up to a championship shot. This is a fine way to build him towards his first one. Yeah, the Tag team division isn't big news to the WWE, and as such is the perfect place to start.

It's not exactly like the Flair/Carlito angle. As a wrestler I would want Flairs respect. He used to be great. Hardcore Holly is no legend. You cant even say he's got worse with age like Flair. He's always been mediocre. I think It should be Cody teaching Holly a few things. Like how to get a crowd behind him and how to work, and how to capitalise on potential.

This is damn bad. Rhodes is okay, he has to get over somehow, and I would not mind seeing him with the tag belts to get him started. But putting him with Holly...that's going the wrong way. No one gives a damn about Holly's respect, Holly hasn't done shit to get his own except taking bumps and finishing the match with them.

If it was with a person that gets and deserves respect, fine. But this could really damage Rhodes' start.

I don't like how they are going to try to get a young, up and coming superstar over by placing him with someone who has been with the company for at least 10 plus years and no credibility. Holly has never really gotten over with the fans. He has never had any meaningful title runs of any kind.

If you want to try and get cody over you have two options:
1. Use a vet like a Holly except someone bigger and way over with the fans like an Austin like figure. He is already huge with the fans and will put whoever he is with over big.

2. Put him with another young big name and go all out with them, kind of like what they did with the Hardys when they first came in. He already has the family name(rhodes) so he is known. Watch the reaction the new Hart foundation is going to get, this is the way to do it. It helps though because of the whole Name thing.

I think I know where WWE is going with this. I remember a while back Holly was pretty much in the middle of a storyline just like this where he told some kid he had to earn his respect... Granted the kid got fired a few weeks after that, but it would seem that that's where WWE is going with this. Taking one of their oldest and most experienced (time wise) and teaming him up with one of the WWE's newest. Out of all this I'm looking to see Cody's actual ability rather then fighting Davari or getting killed by Orton

I think this is good for Rhodes' career. The only thing Rhodes has going for himself is his name, so it will be good for him to have to hang around with Hardcore. He is one of the best wrestlers (not performers) in the WWE, so Rhodes will learn from him. It will help Rhodes get over, because Rhodes so far has taken so many beatings that he is hardly believable as a wrestler. Taking a few beatings from Holly, who everyone knows to be one of the stiffest workers in the industry, will help people realize that Cody isn't just some little bitch who is using his dad's legacy to get over. So far, that's all Cody Rhodes has done, perhaps Bob will beat some toughness into him.

Why does Hardcore Holly carry this whole "earn my respect" thing around with him when it comes to rookies? Is it because he stiffed Matt Cappotelli on that episode of Tough Enough? Oh great.

"I kicked the crap out a rookie so now ya'll need to earn my respect..."

Come on, seriously. If it was someone who had won numerous championships over the years then the gimmick would work fine, not some injury prone midcarder who has a reputation for stiffing rookies because "they aint paid their dues". I mean remember the Undertaker - Jeff Hardy storyline in 2002? Jeff kept challenging Undertaker and every week the Deadman would beat him until that Ladder Match when Taker just scraped the victory, after it Undertaker raised Jeff's hand as he had earned his respect. It worked because Undertaker is a respected main eventer and can be seen as a mentor to young wrestlers. Unlike Bob Holly who blew any "mentor" qualities when he stiffed Matt Cappotelli just because he wanted to look like a total badass.

Also, as someone said above, this reeks of Flair and Carlito all over again.

I agree with the majority, here. The "earn my respect" angle doesn't work for somebody like Hardcore Holly. I mean, they might as well have it be Barry Horowitz. Seriously, of all guys on the WWE roster that a rookie should be trying to impress, Hardcore Holly has gotta be at the bottom of that list.

Jobbing to a move like the Alabama Slam can't be good for Cody, either, who was just recently capturing victories over guys that are much more talented than Holly, ie. SHELTON BENJAMIN.

I don't see this working. Not even getting into the "who the hell does Holly think he is to demand respect thing".

This just sounds bad. Cody is far too green to be trying an angle like this. He looks awkward in the ring as if he's about to trip over air or something. Let him continue training and become a real wrestler before giving him that kind of push. Let him work up, put him in a tag team (different angle), then give them a push.He can work on it with his partner, let them carry each other or something. As of right now, he is not ready.

As for our tag champs. My god, why are they still in WWE? They're boring, their gimmick is lame, they bring nothing to the show.

And Holly, should just be on his own doing his heel thing.

True, WWE is lacking some serious tag team quality, but bringing in Rhodes/Holly? Nuh uh.

ive never been a huge fan of holly but i do think cody has a great deal of potential to a star in the wwe. for the most part i think this pairing will suck and the matches probly wont be too entertaining either but there is one thing about this that strikes me as interesting.

they could do an angle where holly is the heel and rhodes is the face but they are a team. theres never been a tag team that was half heel and half face to my knowledge. at least if they could find a way to make that work it would be something new instead of repeating the "earn my respect" angle that they just did a few months back.

Just saw what you were saying about Holly a few pages back. Give the guy credit, quality matt skills and a great proffesional. Him and Cody as a tag team should work well, old and new....sounds good. It should teach Cody a few things. Im looking forward to it.

well if the tag team division was at least decent i wouldnt mind this idea, i like holly and he has my respect, hes a much better wrestler then ppl give him credit for in ring wise, and his matches with cody are pretty good, even though its like 5 mins tops.. but i think they would form a good tag team, holly can teach cody a lot IMO, he has a lot of experience and hes in great shape

too bad that the tag division is the worst way to get some1 over nowadays, its just so horrible.. even londreck arent getting many crowd pops, it seems the tag team division has no reaction no matter what team...

I'm not really a fan of Holly. Ric Flair is a legendary person, Holly... not so much. Cody, also not to keen on him but he's new so I should really give him a chance, he has a lot of potential. But I don't really want to see the whole "earn my respect" it doesn't really catch me, but that's my opinion. I would like to see Cody turn into a singles wrestler first, carry on training, because he isn't exactly great in the ring or on the mic. I would like to see him team up with Shelton...

This is not the greatest thing to happen to Cody Rhodes. I would much rather see him in a I.C title feud with Jeff Hardy than this. Ok back to the Holly/Rhodes tag-team. This feud will be the same thing as Carlito and Flair. Holly will keep and telling Rhodes that he has no respect for the business, they become friends, tehy get a title match and lose, Rhodes will turn on him because of the loss, they have a PPV match Rhodes wins. The feud is now over Holly will never be seen on RAW agian.

But this could really damage Rhodes' start.

your right. no one cares for holly, i dont and never have he has always been a jobber at best. sure i respect him as a wrestler but he isnt someone id pay to watch. and i think this tag team is a bad move, put rhodes in a team with someone young from OVR. or just put him in a hunt for the IC title. and as for holly put him on ecw. they need more wrestlers lol.

This couldn't hurt IMO. The tag team division has needed a boost for quite awhile, and Cody Rhodes could use a veteran to give him that launch. Love or hate Holly he's been in the scene for a while and has had some great matches, he has that distinguished veteran appeal, plus with mutliple Tag Team championship reigns I think they could easily be an established team . Only thing I think that could hurt this, is if they did pull a whole Carlito/Flair spin on this. I would love to see a long term team that would get Cody ready for the big time.

I can see Rhodes break potentially at WM next year, possibly winning or putting in a very good Money in the bank performance, could help him break into the near main even period.

As for Holly and Him its a big no-no - I think it was brought in because we need to see more of Rhodes and the potential feuds were limited, hopefully Holly is just a stop for gas before Cody begins to get the wheels of progress back in motion. He has the potential to be a main eventer in 2-3 years, although its happened before, good talent going to waste.

You know as it looks right now rhodes is going to get kicked to the curb like alot of other new wrestlers have if something does not happen. I think this would be an alright thing considering how thin the tag team division is. As i see it they should be a face tag team.

P.S. Please drop the dusty rhodes look cody.

I dont think Cody can drop the Dusty Rhodes look buddy.....it's his roots, it's who he is; why would he drop it. As far as the whole teaming up with Hardcore holly thing is concern.....who knows. Before I couldnt see how the New Age Outlaws were gonna work and they did. So....who know?

First of all why would anyone want Softcore Hollys respect?

Cody should have teamed up with someone people actually give a toss about like Mick Foley.
Just have Foley offer himself to be Codys mentos and voila...Codys popularity soars due to been Mick Foleys tag partner.

Cody "wishes he had Lance Storm charisma" Rhodes and Hardcore "no one gives a fuck about me" Holly would be an awful tag team and what popularity Codys gained would vanish.

This sounds like the whole Flair and Carlito angle all over again.

Agreed, this feud has potential, but WWE doesnt know how to branch off of anything other than the 'old vet, young rookie' angle... its been done over and over and over again, why would it work now with holly ( who gets mild heat), and rhodes (who no one cares about).

and they need to make this more interesting, not just holly vs rhodes every freakin week! ... add someone else to the feud maybe, just do something different, maybe have carlito team with rhodes against holly in a handicap

I really think if they were to become a tagteam they should go heel have them feud with other tagteams for a while than have Rhodes realize that he doesnt need Holly's respect and beats his ass. This could kill Rhodes career before it gets started. Imagine 12 years from now and all he has acomplished was the tag belts 1-2 times and maybe a meaningless belt(hardcore) afew times>
