History Lecture at Uni

Talking like Im falling down stairs
Ok i had an interesting lecture at uni today(I'm currently studying The history of world wars) about what german people did during WW2 and (yes I know this is a touchy subject for some). It was about what were some of the things that german people did to either help or prosecute the Jews or did nothing, and my question is what would you do if you were a german with no particular like or dislike of the Jews and you knew where a couple of Jew families were hiding and heard that the German's were looking for them would you either

Help the Jews, Nazi's or Do nothing?

Ah, the Nazification of history continues unabated

Yes... yes it does mein furher I mean 5ap6oca (sorry)

As historical figures go, Hitler isn't particularly interesting. He was a racist moron who had the good fortune to be fighting people who hadn't learned just how effective tanks were.

I actually had a History graduate try to argue with me that Adolf Hitler was the greatest military leader in history...

That's hilarious. How on earth did he graduate?

Normally I would launch an attack on his lack of knowledge but it really was not his fault. He is just a product of the Nazification of the history curriculum in Britain. He would have likely done, much like I was taught in school, courses on Weimar Germany and then the rise of Hitler, followed by the Cold War. What is missing? Well, in four years of this course progression, not once were the actual World Wars themselves studied in any depth. This guy had barely heard of names like Rommel, Guderian, Zhukov, Montgomery or Patton, never mind the real heroes like Orde Wingate...

For a large proportion of students, history began in 1933...

I have also had someone tell me that George Washington was the greatest military leader too... Not as preposterous as Hitler but still rather narrow minded.

What is the world coming to?

indeed. I loved history, until I did a GCSE in Hitler. Shame really, I kind of regret not doing a history A-Level.

I am certain that I did the same GCSE. The stupid thing was was that my A Level repeated much of the GCSE course, exscept it expanded further on the ridiculous leaving out of key events...

- studied the French Revolution and then 19th century British and Irish history without any study of the Napoleonic Wars

- studied 19th century British and European history without any real information on the Crimean War, British Colonial Wars or the Franco-Prussian War that unified Germany

- studied early 20th century British, Irish and European history without doing the First World War

- studied Weimar and Hitler's Germany followed by the Cold War without any information on the Second World War

- studied the Troubles in Northern Ireland, which are just unbelieveably boring and make me sad to be from here such was (and to some extent still is) the idiocy and intolerance displayed by both sides
