In an era where heels have dominated the landscape, what the WWE craves now is an out n' out good guy that gets the fans pumping their fists again in anticipation. A superstar that romps down the aisle and powers his way to the top. True Orton is one, but that's just one big FACE in a jungle full of heels. Therefore, it only seems fit that we look to a younger, brighter star in...

Look at him, the guy screams babyface. It just seems a matter of time before he has a turn, and is given the chance to pander with the audience's adulation. He has a good move-set for a big man, and frankly has had some great matches with Kofi in recent months. But let's break this down-

Flaws:

Whatever you need in your resident IT guy , this guy without a shadow of a doubt, has SANS the ability to hold the audience when he's holding the mic. This is the only problem. If/when worked upon the man is raring to go for the big time. His mic-skills aren't the worst in the world at the moment, but room for improvement; for sure.

Approach:

The booking has to be undoubtedly of a 'white knight' destroyer face. A man who backs down to noone, and someone who needs to go over by beating clean a monster heel like Big Zeke or a Big Show. He has the look, the size and without a doubt the BEST entrance music around today.

If you can imagine him interrupting a Nexus beat down during a Raw ME with ^THAT blaring in the background, then you pretty much get what I'm rolling withhere.

So what do you think? Is Drew the next big face? Why/why not?

I say NO. In fact I see nothing about Drew that makes me believe he would be a good face. I look at him like a William Regal type. He works too well as a heel. Making him a face would ruin him. I also don't think he he could ever be a top face, if he did become a face. I think he would fall flat on his.....face.

I like this topic, and he definitely has to try something new. For some reason his heel run isn't working. I'm going to say it has to do w/the type of heel he's been groomed to portray. That is, there is no "energy" to it. What I mean is that he's the slow, confident, cocky heel, but he's just there w/no "punch", kind of like a DiBiase type thing. I'm not saying it's not how his character is supposed to be portrayed, but he just seems too different and bland than the other heels I guess would be the best way to put it. I'm also going to do something crazy here and make a TNA reference that I think relates to this situation, and I'm going to point out Matt Morgan.
In TNA, Morgan's heel run was kind of like "ok, he's there and he's going to beat down someone if Fortune wants him to." I mean, he never really had much personality in that role (THAT'S the word I was looking for above, personality). And again, I think that the type of characters these guys are portraying are not supposed to have a lot of that "over the top" or "high energy" personality. But look at Morgan now, once he was turned face and the character demanded more "personality", he's at the top of the heap right now, and doing a pretty good job of it.
I think that's what McIntyre needs is that face turn and allowed to be a big, mean guy, but with an agenda and standing up for people as a face. It would give him some personality and would be so fresh to the fans that they'd probably pop very well for him. Same thing could be said for Swagger, but that's a different story.

Face? No. The next top tweener? Fuck yes. This man is potentially the next Orton, and it's funny that anyone would say "The next Orton" since he's only been a huge draw for about 6 years. If you saw him Future Shock Chavo, you can see that he's a natural at the whole, I look out for myself, I'll take out friends and enemies, I'll Future Shock my Grandmother. I definitely think he's got what it takes to make it to the top, he's got the looks and the talent, and his mic skill compliments his persona.

I voted YES. I see major potential in McIntyre. I haven't figured out what it is, maybe it's awesome theme song lol. All joking aside he can be a major player he just needs the right booking. He's been made to look extremely weak as of late.

The future shock DDT looks really devastating and its cool to see someone use a "regular" move as a finisher every now and again. Drew has the look, his mic skills are decent, and he can sell very good in my opinion. I think he just needs a good fued (one that he won't get buried in). Chosen one? Eh not sure about that. Major player in the main event roster for years to come? Hell yes I can see it

As one of the Chosen One's biggest fans on this forum, from what I've seen in his time at FCW, I believe Drew is a much better face than a heel. I think if there ever is a guy who can be the much needed face for the WWE, it can be Drew. As the OP said, he has the look, theme, entrance, he's even good in the ring. All he needs is an improvement on the mic. It's a problem but it can be fixed. The first thing first, he needs to become a face b/c that's his natural role.

I want to like Drew, I really do. He has a kickass theme song, and a great look. But I voted no, for a few reasons.

I don't see Drew as having the in -ring skills to make it. He hasn't demonstrated the ability to do much more then stomp, punch, kick, and DDT someone. One nuance in the ring I will give him credit for is he does work over an injured body part with more detail then most. But he doesn't have any signature moves or a true moveset that he "owns". He's been on Smackdown for over a year and has yet to develop a moveset. That's very telling.

Drew doesn't have much poise. Whether it be on the mic, or in the ring, Drew doesn't seem to be in-control. Even the guys who come across as "out of control"(such as Randy Orton) are very controlled in those aspects of their character. Drew just comes across as a wreckless bastard who can't talk with a steady voice. He always appears to be trembling, whether it be talking, or when he's flying off the handle. So he lacks the poise to really break out into the main event.

I would love to see Drew become what you've proposed. He's done all he can do on Smackdown at this point, and a jump to Raw might be good for him, especially like the one you suggested. But how would he follow up from there? Sadly, because of the reasons I listed above, I see him falling flat on his face.

The angrier Drew gets, the better I like him. His character strength comes when he's having a shitfit, as he did with Chavo, Cody & Teddy Long. This reminds me of Randy Orton, who also seems to be at his best when he's going off on someone. At the same time, that's what makes Randy such an effective 'tweener.

Drew would fit well into that characterization, too. He's not the best technical wrestler, that's for sure, but he's got the nasty personality that can make fans love him at the same time they're hating him.

Well now that Mustang Sally has professed her love for the Scotsman, we move on to the topic at hand

See he has to be perceived as the guy that can challenge giants and behemoths. Much akin to Brock Lesnar's persona. Sure he doesn't have the gritty technical chops but he is a BIG dude. His repetoire at the moment is pretty good and he has a strong finisher.

The only problem I see are his promos. He needs a persona that adapts him to either go into a fit every time he speaks, speak with a sombre tone of menace or WORK on his promos to get to that next level. I mean everybody's promos almost always sucked when they came in. Ever hear the Blueblood Hunter talk? You'd wanna decapitate your ears. But look how he matured and turned into one of the best promo-cutters around.

Bottom Line, he is there to be made. Has all the tools and I would like to see how the fans would respond if he jumped to Raw, turned face and had an upper mid-card feud.

I've been thinking about him as a face, and I came up with an interesting way to get the job done without making it seem forced.

Vince McMahon called him The Chosen One, and then McMahon disappeared. Now, he's failed to live up to the hype so far. A few things that need to be known and need to happen for this to work;

1. The Miz cashed in the Money In The Bank brief case, but still carries it around.

2. The Raw GM is still undetermined and needs an explanation.

3. Drew McIntire would need to switch to the Raw brand.

The Miz could keep the championship, and make himself seem like he's the WWE's new poster boy. McIntire could come out and say that he's the chosen one. The one that McMahon himself hand-picked. They could start a program, with McIntire getting injured during the main portion of the match, but still somehow winning and gaining the championship.

The Miz could attack after the match and say that he wants to NOW cash in his brief case. The referee could see that there is still a valid contract in the brief case and would start the match. The Miz could then win the title back immediately.

PPV goes off the air, fans are stunned. Next night on Raw, Miz explains that the GM gave him a title shot, he didn't need to turn in his brief case in. McIntire can claim he doesn't believe that McMahon would allow that to happen... and guess who the Raw GM is?

Loose ends?

McMahon being in the coma, while the GM still make decisions. Solution? He wasn't ever in the coma, he was simply trying to work behind the scenes without question.

Any decisions he made that didn't bode well with The Miz? Solution? He was throwing people off and was also sure to keep The Miz in line for the shot.

Why he moved past Drew and onto The Miz? Solution? He lost faith in McIntire and wanted to find someone else on a fast track.

Now, this would have to take place quickly before the brief case would have expired and before WrestleMania, most likely.

Of course, some things would have to be worked out in general, but I think fans would rally behind Drew just because of him going against the odds.

I just can't see it. To me he comes off as a natural sadistic heel. I don't even mean that in a heel Randy Orton way. More of someone who literally has psychological issues with hearing voices. He overreacts to most things. Even when he only gets a 2 count out of the ref, he looks at him like he's going to kill him.

i don't think drew will reach that level. expespecially as a face, how is he a face? his accent screams heel and i just can't see his mic skills being good as a face, his mic skills are good as a heel. he just didn't look as good as he could in the ring as he could. if he is gonna make it, it has to be as a heel

Unfortunately I voted before I read exactly what it is you meant about the potential of drew. I do, and am one of a minority of guys to see potential in drew as one of the really good things to come out of smackdown right now, but he has done so much to prove to me that he makes a very good solid heel that I couldn't imagine him being anything else.

The reason drew got the endorsement of "chosen one" was because that means he is being given an easier path by the boss, you cannot possibly be face and maintain that gimmick so to change drew would have to change his whole image and I don't see that happening and drew still having the sort of job security he currently enjoys.

In the ring he is naturally aggressive, his theme screams heel and so does his voice and mannerisms, albeit though he is a poor executer of promos, he is still a good distance from face territory. In short, to turn mcintyure, you would either have to take him back down to FCW and re-package for a good few months OR have something very drastic happen that gives you empathy for him.

One possible scenario which is always on the cards is failure. Have drew always on the path towards new heights but every time he approaches it within fingetip reach, he is thwarted and brought back down again...resiliance and determination is a face trait and after a while the people would see that. One major fashion they could do this in is say having him in the royal rumble and eliminated by an already eliminated opponent or some other screw over. Another major possibility could be to have him win MITB and be the first guy to fail at cashing in, it would be preferable if that was against a heel champion as well.

After a good few months of losing and getting nowhere despite his best efforts, turn him into some sort of dispondant man who becomes more humble, doing backstage interviews respectfully and normally but with an overlying melancholy feeling. Give him this for a further 2PPV's duration and eventually have him get some sort of a lucky break. Let's say there is a tournament for a mid-card title to determine the No 1 contender and someone drops out and drew wins a match to get put into their spot.

Have him going through some real hard-fought matches, john morrison style until the final tournament match comes up. Have the opponent miss the finisher and mcintyre land a roll-up after a long match. At the PPV, the title match commences. Make drew close to winning the match but then pull a swagger/kofi IC title moment and have the guy he beat for the No1 contender spot interfere.

A triple threat match/ no DQ match is set up for the next PPV. Either have him win the triple threat match OR have interference in the no DQ match by the guy who attacked him in the last match, but then have him helped out by someone else, someone like masters on smackdown or evan bourne on raw. That'll set up multiple possible feuds for the title from their with two enemies making him look strong, giving him momentum and he can go from there.

OK so that is a fairly generic story for any heel superstar but it is applicable to drew so i guess him turning face isn't impossible but just unlikely as things currently stand. As things are now it is unlikely he is going to get over as anything other than a heel which is how I belive it should be because hes good at it.

His finisher is one of the few that looks genuinely devastating when he hits it, but beyond that I think he's a charisma black hole and I can't see him at the top as either a heel or a face, but any upper card success he garners will be as a heel.

WWE pushed Drew hard. He was give the 'Chosen One' gimmick, he endorsed by McMahon on screen, he held the Intercontinental Championship for a decent amount of time, and he was put into a creative feud with Matt Hardy, an over veteran. Despite all of this, McIntyre failed to get over.

The obvious question is, why? Management and creative were behind him, but the fans simply weren't reacting enough. I believe it's because he's boring, plain and simple. He has a good enough look, decent in ring skills, but his work on the mic is just so tedious...I find myself zoning out of almost every McIntyre promo. The guy is just generic and bland. He needs to greatly improve his mic work and character before he's gets given another opportunity.

Oh, and sure the music is great, but it doesn't make him any better.

Is it just me or after he wins a match he acts so over the top like hes hated and theres not even much of a reaction? hes a snoozefest for me i hope to god he doesnt stick around

His entrance music is great and Shaman's Harvest deserve a pat on their back for that. But that is the only redeemable quality about Drew Mcintryre. I am ready to be proved wrong but I do not think he has it. You are saying that the crowd will give him a huge reaction if he comes out to stop the Nexus with that music. Well, he does need to do something after his music stops playing. Either talk or beat up a few guys. And he sucks both on the mic as well as in the ring. He hardly performs a wrestling move apart from his finisher.

Of course if booked properly I guess he could get over as a badass. But I do not think he has what it takes to sustain his push. What he particularily lacks is ability on the mic and if you lack that, you are never going to get over in the WWE.

I'm unsure how to vote because of how my opinion stands.

I don't think he would make it as a face, to be honest. I think he has the LOOK but not the mic skills or the in-ring skills, though both are fine, I don't believe they're good enough AT THE MOMENT to be the top anything. Although, with some improvement (he is quite young afterall) it may be possible, you never know, really.

But, back to the subject at hand, I agree with theabsolute. I think he'd work better as a Orton/Austin type character. Tweener that does whatever to whomever he likes, never backs down, etc.,

So with a possible face turn on the horizon for Drew McIntyre, or a turn into a tweener character, my question is how can WWE regain the momentum McIntyre held last year and early this year? ( It was not much, but he was Intercontinental champion) Squashing Trent Baretta is not helping. I think that Drew should turn into a Randy Orton style gimmick, where he is very intense but not booed. He should gradually beat Smackdown's faces. I'm not saying have him go on Smackdown and beat Edge immediately, instead saying he should beat guys like Swagger, Cody Rhodes, then progress to Ziggler, Del Rio, and in a while Edge.
I think the not worst, but one of the bad things WWE could do is pull McIntyre into the feud against Smackdown's Nexus. Sure it will give him exposure, and TV/PPV time, but I want to see The Chosen One on a quest for the World Heavyweight championship.
An alternate route would be keep him heel, beat the faces, chase the IC championship, then drop that like the Miz did a little before he won the championship, and have McIntyre finally win the World title in the fall? I don't know how long making McIntyre Main event will take. And if WWE thinks he needs a valet, keep Kelly Kelly with him, face or heel.

so far it looks like kelly kelly will be playing the battered girlfriend thing like Elizabeth did with Randy Savage. As far as Drew goes, I love his look, entrance, and has decent mic skills. He's not a superb wrestler but he also doesn't suck either (HHH skills). He is slowly getting his push back thank God. He was in the dog house for awhile. In my opinion the only way to put him way over is to have him beat main event guys on consistent basis. have him beat Bigshow then build from there. don't have beat Bigshow then job to Berreta or guys like that. I agree, having him wrestle Trent Barreta is not helping. Have him team with someone and hae him pin Edge, Bigshow, Kane...ETC. Exposure also helps. have him appear more than once on the show. to me it looks like they are going slow with Drew which is not a bad thing. With Del Rio getting a main event push, Drew better show Vince he is serious and has to show him he "wants it".

Drew McIntyre can be turned into the chosen in many ways. I have thought of one that is paticularly my idea. Have Drew get a face turn and apologize to Trent Baretta. They start becoming friends. Kelly Kelly becomes Drew's valet as Drew creates a stable. Have Barretta and someone like Evan Bourne(Move to SD!) in the stable along with Kelly Kelly and Kaitlyn(Trent Barretta's new valet). The stable then gets attacked by SD! Nexus and is angry. On the following Smackdown! The stable now called the Allies, challenges SD! Nexus to a 4 on 4 match in which it is Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater vs Drew McIntyre, Trent Barretta, Evan Bourne and a mystery partner. The mystery partner is Undertaker. This sets up a match at Wrestlemania between SD Nexus and Allies with the Allies winning and the SD! Nexus(without Barrett, who is going against Undertaker) become deformed. I like this idea because it would push McIntyre into the main event as a face who took out SD! Nexus.

I'm going to say with the whole Kelly Kelly angle, it's a no. I mean he has already voiced his "uncomfortableness" (made that up) with this on account that Kelly Kelly and his wife Taryn "Tiffany" Terrell were good friends, and it made him and his wife feel awkward. Maybe a tweener like some have said, but I see him as a top notch heel. I mean he's the guy i'll mark for more than anyone right now, and he has to be one of the top 5 most talented wrestlers in the E right now. Push this Kelly Kelly story to the side or on a mid carder, and push him up there with the Del Rio's and Morrison's

Drew will never be the face of the company, he just doesn't have it in him. He doesn't have the excitability of John Cena or Hulk Hogan or the bad-assity of Stone Cold. He's okay in the ring but has done nothing to show that he's a true work horse, and he is underwhelming on promos.

I think Drew is in the midst of a character reboot with the Kelly Kelly angle. I don't know if it's going to wind up being a face turn or if creative is trying to get McIntyre more heat, but I do have faith that it will work. I think when this storyline is over McIntyre will be a major player on Smackdown.

I think McIntyre will have a successful wrestling career. He already has an IC Title reign under his belt, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a World Title reign or two by the time his career is over. That said, he will never have the numbers or skills of John Cena or Triple H nor will he have nearly as impressive a career as either of those two stars.

KB once told me that he thinks McIntyre could be the next big star amongst the guys who haven't reached that platform yet, but he needed to be a babyface because his look screams babyface. After he said that I thought about it and I really couldn't help but agree. McIntyre of late has been in a rut, but I like where this whole Kelly Kelly thing is going. We've seen a side of remorse with McIntyre, but now we just need to see that in action. This could be a great way to slowly move Drew into becoming a face, which SD heavily lacks with Taker on the shelf. If they can slowly turn McIntyre into a successful face he can achieve what many expected of him, and that is the World Heavyweight Championship. I think McIntyre has all the tools to be a world champ and if he can get over as a face he will finally fulfill his destiny of being the Chosen One.
