Greatest TAG TEAM matches ever

The Idiot

Getting Noticed By Management
So much talk about great matches, best old school wrestlers and best tag teams. But really...nobody ever talks about the best traditional tag team MATCHES. Of course tag team wrestling today (much like the Intercontinental title) is pretty much on it's death bed...but back in the 80's and 90's it was booming...and just as popular as anything.

Let's hear some of your favorite tag matches...from any organization.

Firstly, I would like Fabulous Rougeau to name his opinion, since I believe that is the rules.

Mine would have to Wrestlemania 2000, WWF tag team champions, Dudley's vs Hardy's vs Edge & Christian, a great match between these teams, with great moments and high spots, certainly set the standard for TLC and MITB matches.

I'm gonna go with, RVD & Sabu VS Hayabusa & Jinsei Shinzaki from ECW HeatWave '98. I'm a big fan of Hayabusa's and RVD so seeing those to in a match is pretty awesome for me. Plus the finish is pretty awesome, double leg drop off the top on Hayabusa and Jinsei.

I'm also gonna second Draper1989 with his choice, the WWE Tag Team Title Finals at No Mercy '02. Benoit & Angle meshed so damn well and Rey meshes with anybody, Edge being no exception. Just an exciting match in general, much better then the HeatWave '98 match.

Notable Mentions:

No Mercy '99 Ladder Match: E&C VS The Hardy Boyz
The Colons VS Edge & Y2J- From RAW; when the Colons revoked their rematch clause the first time. Can't remember the exact date but it was a great match.
TLC I: Summerslam 2000

Anytime Edge and Christian, The Hardy Boys, and The Dudley Boys went at it, I always thought the end result was a solid match. To be honest, I also enjoyed last year's tag team war between Beer Money, Inc. and Team 3D. But my favorite tag team match would be...

Edge and Christian vs. The Hardy Boys- No Mercy 1999: Ladder Match. It was such a unique concept given the fact that before this match only 2 men had ever competed at one time in a Ladder Match. I thought 4 might be overkill. I was wrong, obviously. The match was insane and worked on the same basic principles that the Razor Ramon/Shawn Michaels laddder match did back in WM X. All four earned their place in the company with this match, and as a result of this, their status in the company was elevated.

In terms of an actual tag team match, I would probably vote for the Legion of Doom vs. The Hart Foundation (which I believe is on the Road Warriors DVD). It was a solid contest between two legendary tag teams that had already built up a reputation by the time they finally wrestled each other. Another great match was the Los Guerreros vs. Edge and Rey vs. Angle and Benoit match from Survivor Series 2002.

On eof my favourites is Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit vs. The Two Man Powertrip (Steve Austin & Triple H). That match will possibly always be remembred for Triple H tearing his quad but the fact he kept fighting and managed to finish the match without missing anything. Benoit & Jericho took the titles from this evil ego powered duo. It was a great match.

I loved the Dumpster Match between New Age Outlaws vs Cactus Jack (Mick Foley) and Chainsaw Charlie (Terry Funk). The ladder spot where Billy Gunn and Mick fall in the dumpster on the outside of the ring was a great spot. Also the ending with Funk dumping Gunn and Road Dogg in the dumpster with the forklift was great.

I'm only 29, but I grew up watching the Rock & Roll Express vs The Midnight Express. Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson vs Beautiful Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane. Yes I still think he was the better partner. Jim Cornette was the best manager in wrestling. The matches, to this day, are the best series of matches to watch. The only problem is that many of them was not on tv. I still remember them wrestling 5 out of 6 nights in Louisiana back when I was younger.

A great tag match, is not a gimmick match like your MITB or TLC. That's a match with a lot of great spots. I loved those as well, but the question was the best tag matches ever. I don't know, maybe we should change that to, What are the 5 greatest tag team wrestling matches you're ever saw.

Runner-up. Road Warriors vs Harlem Heat.

I'll got back to the late 80's and early 90's when tag team wrestling was at its best. For three years The Hart Foundation had a great match at SummerSlam. In 1988 against Demolition, in 1989 against The Brain Busters, and in 1990 against Demolition again. The 1989 match was a great wrestling match between two of the greatest teams of all time. 1988 and 1990 The Harts combined wrestling and brawling to overcome the powerful Demolition. I especially liked the 1990 two out of three falls match.

The Rockers vs. The Orient Express from Royal Rumble 1991 was great too. It was a good fast paced match with non stop action from start to finish.

My favorite is more recent. I loved Rey Mysterio & Edge vs. Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit from No Mercy 2002 (already 8 years ago? I'm getting old). That was a masterpiece. That match just kept building and building and the crowd was getting more and more into as it went on. All four men brought their A game that night.

Probably gonna get some flame for saying this but The American Wolves vs The Young Bucks (Generation Me) in ROH. Those two teams tore down the house in every single tag bout they had with each other. People say that tag teams were only good back in the 80's and 90's but ROH has a FANTASTIC tag team division.

im a little young, some of the best tag team matches ive seen are the hardeys, dudleys, and edge&christian ladder/tlc triple threat tag-team matches. this years generation x ultimate x match between the MCMG Vs Generation Me. Sorry those were all gimmick xP

Shane Helms & Shannon Moore vs. Jamie Noble & Evan Karagis vs. Kaz Hayashi & Jimmy Yang

I was probably 8 when that match actually happened, but when I got the WWE Ladder Match DVD, this match was just unbelievable. All of these guys were in a company that actually had a cruiserweight division and were used, as opposed to now. This was by far my favorite match on that DVD, and up there with the E & C/Dudleyz/Hardyz TLC matches, this is a top tag gimmick match.

I was thinking of posting this match the other day but back on topic her is mine

the steiners vs jushin liger and wild pegasus (chris benoit)

My favorite of all time involved two of the greatest teams of all time.

Hart Foundation v. The Rockers - SNME June 1990

I thought it was a great match because it went back and forth so many times without any team really ever gaining a clear advantage. And the match didn't really last all that long, especially compared to other tag matches in that era. I will always contend that those two teams should have squared off at WM 7 so the Rockers could finally win the belts and the break up would mean more when it happened a few months later. That and those two teams could have saved an otherwise dismal PPV. But that's just my opinion.
I like alot of the matches that you guys have mentioned though. Especially the Rockers v. The Orient Express from Royal Rumble 1991. That was a classic as well.

What's with all these rules lately? lol

I think I should have made myself more clear when talking about traditional tag team matches. No TLC, ladder, cage, handicap....I wanted to hear classic tag team matches... 2 on 2. Two out of three fall matches are ok, in fact Demolition-Hart Foundation SS '90 was probably top 5 for me.

Rockers vs Brainbusters in 89 at Madison Square Garden is also ranked up there.
