Dark Match Jobber
Professional wrestling, or pro wrestling, is a non-competitive professional sport, where matches are arranged by the promotion's booking staff, and is also considered an athletic performing art, containing strong elements of catch wrestling, mock combat and theatre. It has origins in carnival sideshows and music halls in the late 19th century as part of displays of athletics and strength. Modern professional wrestling usually features striking and grappling techniques, which are modeled after diverse sets of wrestling and pugilistic styles from around the world. (Thank you Wikipedia)

As the above illustrates, wrestling has come a long way in its 100+ year history. From those carnival sideshows, to the territory days, to today where it has become an internationally promoted industry. Through the years we, as wrestling fans, have followed icons like Bruno Sammartino, Lou Thesz, Iron Sheik, Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin. Along with them we have seen the drama that happens behind the curtain as well as in the ring.

From this drama, from those icons, from all the eras gone by, "moments" have implanted themselves in our minds. Moments that made us love the produce, and the industry. Moments that inspired us. Moments that we will never forget. The thing about these "moments" though, no matter how hard you rack your brains, there will be many that you missed out. Someone will always have something special that you missed out, and you will agree with them. There are simpy too many "moments".

So, to all pro wrestling fans who love the industry, the product and all that is wrestling, I ask you: What is YOUR favourite moments in wrestling history?

I ask in an ambicious effort to list the most pivotal, the most dramatic, and most memorable moments in wrestling history. To my knowledge, this has never been done before, but hopefully we can bring together an accurate list.

Now, you may be thinking "But we won't have an accurate list; this will be entirely done by the internet wrestling community", and yes, you would be right. However, I believe that all of us, internet fan, smark, mark or casual, will all have different opinions to those in our own group, while also having similar opinions to those in another group. That, I believe, is enough to get a fair list. And afterall, I am sure the most popular moments will be one that is agreed with by all.

You will also be asking, "What do you mean by 'moment' exactly?" I have been deliberately vague to accommodate everything. A moment can be anything. It can be a match, a title win, a promo, an event, a storyline, a debut, a gimmick, a move, a feud, or anything that I didn't name.

So what do you think? Hulk Hogan slamming Andre The Giant? Steve Austin's King of the Ring promo? The first WrestleMania? Shawn Michaels winning the WWE Title? The era of the nWo? Mick Foley being thrown from the top of the Cell by Undertaker? Get thinking, and while you think, read the rules below.

RULES:
List your TOP 10 Greatest Moments in Wrestling History. Sum up your moment, then say why you think is deserves to be on the list. For example:

1. Hulk Hogan slams Andre The Giant - It brought together two of the greatest figures in wrestling at the time. Andre was unstoppable, and Hogan was the only one who could stop him. What did he do? He picked him up and bodyslammed the Giant. The crowd went wild and Hulkamania took off. If deserves to be on the list because, arguably, it was the moment that made wrestling as popular as it became.

As well as a Top 10, and am adding to option of "Honourable Mentions". This is for moments that you don't think should be in the top 10, but definately deserve a mention in the list. You can have up to 10 of these and will all receive the same points (so you don't need to rank them). This will hopefully lead to a more varied and accurate representation of what really is the favourite moment in history.

Scoring is done like this:

#1 = 20 points
#2 = 18 points
#3 = 16 points
#4 = 14 points
#5 = 12 points
#6 = 10 points
#7 = 8 points
#8 = 6 points
#9 = 4 points
#10 = 2 points

Honourable Mentions
# = 1 point
# = 1 point
# = 1 point
# = 1 point
# = 1 point
# = 1 point
# = 1 point
# = 1 point
# = 1 point
# = 1 point

Everything mentioned in every entry is put into a document with each point it has received next to it. Each point is added together and then multiplied by how many voted for it. For example:

Blah Blah: 20, 20, 18, 12, 10, 10, 10, 6, 4, 1 = 111

20 + 20 + 18 + 12 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 6 + 4 + 1 = 111

111 x 10 = 1110

Also, it could help greatly if you could include a like to a YouTube video or link to a picture the shows your moment in action (of course, if that is not possible it does not matter). This part is also optional, but as I say will help with the final presentation.

One last thing, while I am posting this in every wrestling forum I can find, it would help if you spread it also. Copying and pasting this message is all you need to do, then PM the link to the thread so I can collect the votes.

DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 28TH MIDNIGHT GMT (no votes made after that time will be counted)

Thank you for contributing.
