Greatest Intros Ever

Hey everyone. I was wondering what your greatest intro's to a song are. Here are mine:

Avalancha by Heroes Del Silencio

You CANNOT deny that guitar.

Gimme Shelter by Rolling Stones

Ignore the random countdown, that's not part of the actual song. But yeah, this funky build-up then BAM... the two dominant snare drum hits and the song kicks in.

The Age Of Pamparius by Turbonegro

Having such a build-up and then hearing the words "From the ashes of this golden age of confusion, the denim recruits came to be known as... the APOCALYPSE DUDES!" totally makes this for me! Epic :lmao:. Though the guitar straight after that is pretty sick too.

No More Sorrow by Linkin Park

It pains me to put this one in here as I've not been a fan of the recent Linkin Park stuff minus this song. Was totally marking out for them back in the day during Hybrid Theory. Now, I'm not sure. But this intro astounds me nevertheless.

Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies by Biffy Clyro
*Can't find on youtube apart from the single version that's cut out the intro*

Gutted about being unable to find the above song on youtube.

Layla by Eric Clapton/Derek and the Dominoes

I fell in love with the sound of that guitar instantly.

Lastly, pretty much any song by KMFDM.

What are your favourites?

The opening of this song is just awesome.

This is one of my favorite songs to play on guitar hero just because of that awesome intro. I'm surpised its not been used for a rap or something else yet as it just an awesome beat...

Everyone knows, that's the best intro ever. Alex Van Halen is a god.

OH, and try playing that shit on Guitar Hero: World Tour on expert. If you can make it 20 seconds into the song, you win.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - Tha Crossroads The singing at the beginning is not on cd. It's sets the tone for the song & video perfectly:

2pac Ambitionz Az a Ridah-the opening song from the hip hop classic All Eyes on Me This his first album after being released from prison and signing with Death Row Records. The first sound you hear is Pac's voice when CD starts. What better way to open a cd.

I was thinking about this, and while I went through my music I found that songs with the best intro's tended to be rock songs- atmospheric music, doesn't really tend to start with a cool into ;)

That said I shall begin by highlighting a couple of classic rock songs which have yet to be mentioned (and are both strangely big driving songs). The first of these is Road to Hell by Chris Rea.

Normally Road to Hell is split into two parts- Part 1 the long slow build-up and Part 2 the actual start of the song. Depending on the time allotted to intro's I think this has to be one of the best- the drawn out nature of the beginning, the big full sound of the strings, Chris deep voice telling his eerie apocalyptic tale- before suddenly hitting into that laid back cool guitar riff. Edit- Yeah sorry was listening to this again and just remembered how cool it was. Seriously- such a good song :)

The second song has a much shorter intro you will be glad to hear :) Highway Star by Deep Purple is even more of a staple of driving rock albums than Road to Hell.

This song is a classic leader of the build-up as the instruments slowly increase in tempo before finally striking into the first verse of the song.

My final song is a bit more of an unknown, but still remains one of my favourite songs as a reading of my sig can readily ascertain. Girl Anachronism by the Dresden Dolls:

I really like here the uncertain soft start of the piano which starts to speed up as if the song is slowly unravelling before finally exploding into madness. This opening section on the piano for me conveys her rage and anger so much more effectively than some Punk and metal bands manage with much louder instruments :)

I won't go posting videos, but I do have a few for the thread.

Dropkick Murphy's ~ Shipping Up To Boston - This band usually has great intros on most of their songs, but this one could be the most recognizable. It's celtic and punk and rock all at once, and no matter what genre you like, you can listen to it, and know the song will kick ass.

Black Sabbath ~ N.I.B. - I demand to know why this song hasn't been listed so far. The bass intro to this song is fucking legendary. It is the best way to lead into the song, and it almost seems like it carries straight through the rest of the song. It does everything an intro should.

Guns 'N' Roses ~ Sweet Child O' Mine - When you hear that guitar intro, you know what's coming after 2 notes, if that. It's possibly the most recognizable intro ever.
